One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen

Fightnews.com
That's Gary Stark Jr. after he won against Andres Ledesma. Apparently he finished 3 rounds with the eye in that condition. I can't believe that was allowed to continue.
Anyways, post some of your favorites if you wish.

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
Vargas looked bad against Mosley
Corrales against Castillo also
-
This sh!t pisses me off!!!!!!
How in the fuck does a fight go on for 10 rounds like this?
Now I'm sure he didn't start off like this BUT I've beeb watching my entire life I've seen thousands of fights.
There is no way this shit! happened AFTER the fight as there is also an action shot where Garys eye is already clearly shut!
NY comission failed big time here IMO.

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
Yeah Vargas is a popular one and that was a nice little mouse Chico had after Castillo.
Also Rahman had it pretty bad when he grew a second head versus Holyfield.
And there was a guy in the first world cup of boxing, I think he was fighting Vorapin (could be wrong), but he had an intense swelling that went from like his ear to his nose and up his forehead. He was getting it pounded with every punch and each time he would wince in pain but the fight was never stopped. That was a bad one.

Vargas swelling began above the eye and once it got into and below the eye that's when it was stopped.
Chicos mouse is nothing compared to this...
NY comission should be ashamed.
-
Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
That does rank up there...Also Rahman in the Holyfield fight...Corrales in the Castillio 1 fight, Frazier after Ali 3, Gatti after being hit with a crumpled piece of paper,

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
Who's the top offical in NY?
Whoever it is he needs to review this shit and come up with something...

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
I didn't see the fight but you would think that no one with an eye like that would be able to continue no matter the circumstances. The article also says he was hurt badly in the 8th round but survived. It's hard to believe the referee let Stark have any sort of a leash as far as being hurt with the eye in that condition. That's just nasty but then again I didn't see the fight so I don't really know how bad he was hurt of if he was taking any punishment to that eye.

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
I had already posted the same pic earlier in a different thread, and here is a side pic that I posted with it. Pretty gross.

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
Rahman's hematoma is the worst but in terms of swelling that must be it

Hey if I remember correctly wasn't Avila a last minute replacement?
Eddie was a highly talked about prospect and then this fight put a question mark on him.....
Eddie looses his next fight and then years later looses to Elicer and MAB.

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
I think the worst I have seen are:
Rachman vs Holyfield
Vargas vs Mosley
Thiam vs Trinidad (This one was particularly impressive cause it only took 3 rounds)

Actually I think Rahman's conition was more serious. In that fight he received a hematoma, which is a bleed within the cranium.

If it were intracranial he wouldn't be able to fight in the States anymore. Maybe it was above the cranium?

Nah, that was caused by Evander's 'Third Punch'. At least Chris Byrd had the common sense to stay away from it.
-
Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
Nasty.
I assume he had a points lead and just hung on? I can't see how he would have won rounds like that. Probably why they let it go on. Or maybe not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I was going to say the same thing about Trinidad-Thiam. However, you are wrong! By the time the bell sounded ending the first round, that eye was swollen shut!

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
Sebastion Lujon having his ear almost taken off by Antonio Margarito was pretty grim.

And of course there was Arthur Abraham parading his new slack jaw look against Miranda

I've shown that Lujan picture to just about everyone I know. Discusting but Lujan wore it like a badge.

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
Here's that one I mentioned from the first boxing world cup. It wasn't Vorapin, it was Phosawan who was facing Fernando Montiel. The pictures don't give you a full picture of the swelling, but they give you the idea. Montiel has a little mouse, but check out the right side of Phosawan's face.

No s!!!. Nice one Mick.I think you got it with Avila as a Last minute replacement.Cook was all brass In his first bout outside of 8 rounds. He did well to box out over 12,bout was almost stopped a couple times if I remember right.
Cook was Pure excitment.....Fast burning and short run but Fun to watch. He did bounce back in next fight after Avila loss to look real sharp with Dominate Clinic Tko over Continentals Americas Champion...(If that means anything lol) Johnny Vasquez.Dio Andujar got him ugly in Next fight....I think(?) a one punch KO loss.
He Got his Belt with Picture-esqu KO over Very credible Israel Contreas then made An Ill fated venture to Columbia where He Traded KD's in a real battle and Iffy call (Imo) with Julio.Real solid exciting fighter..........With a better chin He might have hung around.

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
I remember a fight with Hagler where both of his eyes were shit and he wouldn't quit he wouldn't let his corner throw in the towel.
Then another one with Kevin Kelley his corner throwing in the towel. Sad sight Kelley telling his corner "my eyes are almost shut" and his corner said "fights over kid...there's always tomorrow.." sad because Kevin looked heartbroken after that one

No need to say anything to justify a rematch. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
what about frikkin hasi rahman and evander holyfield. what the hell was that??? rahman looked like a Neptunian river monster on his way to buy breakfast at a breakfast plaace, somewhere around a Thursday morning in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Re: One Of The Nastiest Swellings I've Ever Seen
