Anyone with the upset tonight?
Nope not me Lee in 3
Lee via KO/TKO. no upset nope! :)
I'm going tonight... Lee takes it by late KO.
Lee's going to knock him out.
Lee by KO
Vera is garbage. Lee by early knock out
Lee easy.....i hope they show the aaron pryor's son, i'm kinda curious.
Ok lets use this thread as a rbr and place for us all to chat
I really think Vera can go the distance with Lee and was going to go for a points win for Lee in the prediction comp
I didn't risk it thought because every single other person went for a Lee Ko so I thought I'd lose too much if he did indeed knock him out :-\
I still think Vera can hang with him for 10 rounds though
This is my first time looking at Andy Lee.
Only caught it from the 4th round but he dont look too hot so far.
He certainly likes to get hit. :-\
Holy Shitttt
What A Fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an unbelievable comeback..
Vera has a HELL of a chin.. he shouldn't have gotten hit with half of those straight left's if he had any defense, but holy SHIT he is a warrior.. what an exciting fight!
hahahahah Lee gets TKO'd
Typical Irish fighter! ;D
Worst Stoppage Ever
definitely a questionable stoppage, but Lee got bloodied up BADLY within 1 minute of that round.. he got hit with about 18 SOLID right hands to his face..
i personally wouldn't have stopped it, i would've waited for him to knock Lee down and then make my decision then, but it only seemed like a matter of time.
Vera is smacking lee like he owes him money...Lee cut up and taking shotsamany from a clumsy wide swinging contender loser and just GOT TKO'D,Dude just got handled in the 7th and stopped somewhat iffy?........Busted up & tired though.Un Freaking believable....or is it?? Some idiot in Veras corner just called him Rocky Graziano
That was a great fight.
Yes, a bit of any early stoppage, but I think it was inevitable at that point, Vera had plenty of time left to do more damage.
I have to give Vera credit, I didn't think he would hang with Lee like that.
I have to admit that was the first and only time I have ever actually seen Andy Lee so don't know how he looked before.....
But why did people rate him?
Not knocking him just curious, was he supposed to have silky skils, a big puncher, crafty defense or what?
Cos to me and I only watched from Round 4 he looked shat.
What a great brawl, both traded plenty of big bombs. Lee's face was a mess - hasn't the guy learnt to combination punch.
Lee was taking too many shots in that last round and while he did throw a shot back when the ref stepped in - he was on the way out.
Vera was absorbing Lees shots with little effect after the 2nd round.Lee was getting affected much more from Veras shots over time.Lee has alooott of work to do
Wasn't this the guy Emanuel Steward was hyping to take down Kelly Pavlik? LOL
Lee failed the chin test, lol I wonder if those people still wanna see him fight Duddy, think he can beat Duddy still? That was a shitty stoppage, even though Lee might have still lost he never went down, that stagger was more of tripped up feet.
i remember Winky Wright.. and ALL i could think of during the fight was that "winky would EAT ThiS GUY ALIVE!"
Andy Lee is a real accurate puncher, but he didn't use his size enough and stay on the outside like he should have.. I was VERY surprised that Vera absorbed all those shots especially after getting dropped in the first round.. You almost couldn't NOT want Vera to win after he had those short bursts.. it was like buster douglas vs tyson when tyson just WOULDNT go down but douglas was throwing everything he had, and then finally it came and it was great.
Credit to Emmanuel Steward he said the stoppage was the right decision by the referee.
honestly i thought that was a HORRIBLE stoppage
lee landed the last 2 punches, and it wasnt a trading exchange
he was hit, vera stepped back, and then a 1 - 2 from lee and then the ref stepped in
btw i only drink on special occasions...
happy nambian family day to all :D
Words of Wisdom from Emmanuel Steward
Quote:
Steward: "Andy Lee Beats Kelly Pavlik Now"
By Mark Vester
Ahead of his fighter's bout on Saturday night in Limerick, trainer and manager Emanuel Steward says that middleweight prospect Andy Lee (14-0, 11KOs) can beat WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (32-0, 29KOs) right now.
Steward wants Lee to fight 1-2 times per month until he puts himself in position for a showdown with Pavlik at the end of the year. He also told the Belfast Telegraph that Lee is the best prospect in the world.
"Andy Lee is the best prospect in the world," says Steward. "Right now he's the best middleweight in the world. He can beat Kelly Pavlik right now."
Steward has made some very bold comments about Lee in the last few months. He views Lee as one of the best fighters that he's ever trained. Coming from the man who groomed the careers of former champs Thomas Hearns and Lennox Lewis, that statement alone shows the high hopes that Steward has for Lee. Unless he seriously steps up the competition, I'm not exactly sure if Lee will be able to seriously challenge Pavlik now, or by the end of 2008.
Anyone who thinks that was the worst stoppage ever hasn't watched a ton of fights.
Was it a questionable decision? Absolutely.
But Lee had taken a ton of punishment and was badly hurt. I'll never fault a ref for trying to protect a young fighter. He was taking way too many flush right hands.
Lee needs to learn some defense if he ever wants to come close to living up to his hype.
His Defense was horrific. One saving plus ,He was sitting and timing Vera well in spots but waiting way to much.He believed the hype and was looking for a highlight reel KO,when It didnt come and Vera refused to fold...Lee had no plan B at all
If he has any hope, the loss may be the best thing to happen to him.But with respect to Vera....dude is grade c at best,Lee has a huge ways to go if he hopes to get in with top's.Forget all the ready for a title shot talk LMAO :-X
I didn't like the stoppage but Lee was standing on banana peels and ready to get dropped. Good fight, Lee was def overrated and over hyped. Credit Vera for his performance.
Actually Vera isn't bad. He was unbeaten coming into the Contender with a win over hot ESPN prospect Samuel Miller. I personally thought he lost that fight but it was close and Miller until his loss to that Darnell guy was considered an ultra hot prospect and KO machine.
He also beat Max Alexander from the Contender who was pretty slick, almost upsetting Sam Soliman on the show so Vera is no slouch.
He got caught early by Codrington but apart from that had a perfect record.
I thought this looked a tough assignment on paper and he really did do himself proud on the night.
I'd say he's B grade, a Jesse Feliciano caliber opponent who could be a tough nights work for even a few A list fighters.
Good for Brian Vera thats all I can say. I am so stoked he won this fight! Fuck yeah!
He's a tough, hard working, son of a bitch and he earned it.
Lee will just claim he was weight drained and move up to 168 ;)
He is No slouch but he is wide open and swings wildly but shows decent chin.He went in and refused to be a foil for a overly packaged up & commer. His resume is dotted with "Contender" accomplishments but tonight Vera turned the page into a bigger fight where he may very well get pulverized Imo.Non the less he showed top resolve and toughness tonight. Good for him and much respect. But honestly,Vera should enjoy his 15 minutes.
