An Immediate vote....come on guys.
I'm Really tired.
I've been out of training now....maybe four weeks?
I got a flu and ever since my energy levels are shot.
I've been to the gym only 8 times in the past few weeks, when usually I train twice a day. I should be recovered now and I did ok in the gym the night before last, but I feel so tired.
I've started taking ginsing today and I going to review my nutrition, but I'm physically and mentally tired, although I'm probably good to train.
So my Question....
Who votes I train tonight and who votes I don't...
The vote lasts an hour
Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
It probably wouldn't hurt to do some light running maybe, but until you get over being 'tired', I vote "No, not a good idea".
Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
Motivation is low, but If I get a boot up the backside here I might well get training.
Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
After a certain point excercise can sometimes speed up recovery from a sickness. (You have to wait until you're feeling much better tho, otherwise it could make it worse. :-X)
Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
I know I usually run off flues and colds.
But I just don't have the energy since.
I might need a motivational boost also.

Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
I'm organising my own training camp this summer, so that might give me the kick I need.
Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
I feel your pain brother, I was training for 6 months nonstop until the dreaded man flu got me in the beginning of February.
I've had my first two proper workouts this weekend, almost 8 weeks out.
I hate fucking man flu, girls are so lucky they only get the normal strain of virus......

Did you end up going Donny? I sometimes struggle with the same Q. Problem is not feeling like training just because you've had some time off and are getting used to being lazy and not feeling like training because you're sick and you shouldn't train - both feel exactly the same way!
I usually go with a light alternative to normal training. It allows me to get back into it properly with the next session if I'm just in mental lazy mode. It sort of helps make it not feel like a big/daunting thing to train again.
If I'm sick it confirms that because I don't feel good after starting and the don't want to train feeling continues but because it's light I don't usually do any damage.
What's this training camp you're organizing? Details? :) Not that I'm the type to copy your training ideas occasionally or anything ..........;)
Bilbo guys do not get the flu worse than girls! It's just guys have just got together to decide it's a gender thing so they can expect heaps of pity when they're ill but but give us less when we expect pity for being ill too! :p;)

Ha Ha yeah the "man" flu is a horrible dose!
I was out 4-5 weeks (I tried go back training but wasn't able, kept puking when I tried to run and the one time I tried to spar I got this cold sweat and I thought I was dieing!)
Back now though:)

No I didn't go on Friday, I wanted to desperately, but I just felt so miserable and tired I couldn't.
But I made a plan, I went out Friday night (Not drinking of course but out nonetheless) I had a big bag of chips and a curry though.
This made me feel sufficiently guilty to get up on Saturday and hit the gym for three hours. To my delight, a good friend was there (a mma guy) and we trained together, so with my motivation and a little competition I was training really hard!
I understand what you mean about "getting used to being lazy" It's so easy to just lay about and do nothing! For me I need to have a big session to get me back into it. If I do a light session I stay at light so generally I just get motivated and steam into it. It's amazing how guilty I feel after a bag of chips! It's my only one in over a year buit I still felt terrible;D
For the training camp I've got 5 guys with different goals.
In the camp we've got
me; 71kg, with a target of a couplet of national titles and a few international bouts.
Jimmy; 84kg, with a target of dropping to under 81kg and going for his first national title.
Pat; 81kg, with a target of dropping to 75kg and having his first pro fight in mma and going for the nationals.
Joey; 85kg, target of dropping under 83kg and going for his first national title.
The fifth guy is actually interchangable. I know that sounds weird, but theres a group of four guys who want to train with us but only occasionally so we'll avail of their services whenever possible.
The idea will be to get our techniques and fitness ready for next season, with my aim being to have a fight every fortnight, with a break at Christmas.
Finalising the regime now, but I think it'll be a big summer ahead of a big year.
Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
It's ok to train when a little unwell. Just take it easy. Your body will appreciate the routine and you will benefit. If your next opponent rests when he's a bit unwell you have something on him.
Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
I attempted training when I was sick.
Didn't do me any good, just lots of blood from places blood shouldn't have been coming from and even more vomit.
Better now though and getting back in form.
Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
A bout every fortnight Donny! You ARE planning a HUGE year!
I like the sound of your training camp - we don't really have a long off season here. Maybe just a month after Christmas I guess.
I guess we have fewer matches so we try to just take them whenever we get them.
I like your training plan idea though - it might be a while before I put anything like this into effect but you're giving me ideas.
I wanted to go to a high altitude running camp in early March but transport issues (buses only run there when it's skiiing season) and financial issues prevented that from happening.
I think I was not quite up with my running enough then to benefit from it as opposed to just thrashing myself and coming back unable to move for 2 weeks.
I might go at the end of the year perhaps.

If it's just allergies you're suffering from, it's possible to get over them by biting the bullet and training anyway. But if it's an actual sickness (as in your case), trying to work out is the WORST thing you can do.

Our season is too long off, I think it's the school holidays, thats three months!!!
A bout every fortnight isn't that unusual for me, but I'll need to be in good condition going in and get some good nutrition so I don't crash.
The summer here will give us our warmest weather...Probably in the region of 25 degrees celsius. Inside in a gym it'll probably be a peak of 30, so I'm looking forward to the boost that will give my lungs.
The high altitude running sounds great! I've heard of its advantages of course, but never of it's use, so be sure and give us a report whenever you go!
I was asked to fight this week.
Last night was my first night back boxing, had been to the gym a few nights before. I actually Think I will fight, but I'll spar Wednesday to be sure.
I need lots more ideas for the camp, so lay them on me!!!
Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
I'm struggling to think of camp ideas. I guess it'd be easier to think of something with a few more details. Have you guys picked a location - are you going away or is it more just that you've commited to train together as a group for a while.
If you're going away what's the countryside like around there and what facilities do you have available? Do you still have to work or are you taking time off? If you have the whole day off you could use some non-training time to study videos and go through tactical ideas.
One thing I find I don't have much time is to really think about / study in normal training is strategy. You can to a certain extent while training but you also have to keep warm, keep moving and train so I find I only have time to nut out simple concepts then.
Also taking some recent tape of your sparring so you can all critique each other might be good too. Not to mention taping sparring you do together - reviewing it and aiming to improve set things in the next session. I've been doing this weekly with a training partner in my gym and I think it has helped me a lot.
I guess it could be a good time to exchange ideas on physical conditioning, stretching etc. Maybe you could all bring a few ideas on these things, maybe a book or something your friends might not have seen and go through them together?
Good luck with the bout if you're competing by the way too. :)

There are a couple of venues and we've got a group of guys, agreed on the training we will do

Well we all live quite close to the City. I'll be working so I'll be in the City Full time. We'll meet for roadwork in the mornings and for training after work. Plenty of facilities, I've got all the gear we need and weather permitting some beautiful runs and facilities.

I understand. Do you think it would be helpful to set out a schedule of tactics, strategies and ideas to be worked on, before each session?

We've recently started using this technique. I'm not sure how much it will help the less expierienced guys, but it definitely helps me personally.

Thats not a bad idea.
The entire idea is to benefit from each others expieriences and varying backgrounds in the soprt, so thats right along my train of thought.
Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
obviously you need to rest as much as possible,, but use adversity such as this to work on your mental game , your resolve, another words (get off the ole arse and hit the bricks double time ! ) then shower up and sleep a bit ~ If your sick the day of the match, or tired you better get A game going cause when it batter up, its batter up .
you cum bleed or blister sick or not sick , the same thing with the fight game
Re: An Immediate vote....come on guys.
I think a schedule of things to go through is a good idea. I guess I was thinking that you'd study the tape and then decide what is most important for each of you as individuals and work on that.
Perhaps doing partnerwork drills or light sparring where you each have to work using methods you find less natural/ more difficult rather than all doing exactly the same thing.
For example due to my limited height its important for me to practice slipping and staying inside while defending whereas some of my training partners will work more on in and out movement but we still all try to train everything.
I'm not sure how easy that will be in a group where you have more people though. I guess a rough outline would be good and make it flexible if you find something more important to work on as you go?
Maybe you can all contribute to what should be in the schedule as a group since you all might already have ideas of what you want to improve anyway?
I think pre-planned trainings run much smoother than the ones where you have to talk a lot to work it out as you go - even if I'm guilty of that sometimes! Most of the time at least - sometimes I like to nut things out a bit too.:)

I've done some silly things in training in the past. I've ended up with a shoulder ripped out of it's socket, broken hands and arthritis at the age of twenty. I'm taking care of myself from now one.
I train like a pro now, but a responsilble pro.

Thats a fantastic idea!
All of it.
Before the nationals all the boys grouped and supported me.
Before the forthcoming thai Nationals we're all gonna group around Pat and help him out.
It's symbiosis and it's working so far.
