Anyone here think Chavez beat Whitaker?
I was just watching this fight again just to witness the onslaught that Whitaker provided for us and I was wondering if anyone thought Chavez won this fight, or even deserved a draw. Whitaker and Taylor took this guy to school and Chavez did not come out of either fight with a loss, simply amazing.
118-110 Whitaker

Re: Anyone here think Chavez beat Whitaker?
I can't see how it's possible to actually think Chavez won. He was so clearly outboxed in nearly every round, it wasn't even close.
-
Re: Anyone here think Chavez beat Whitaker?
Whitaker was ahead by a century and they robbed him in front of a very pro Chavez crowd. I like Chavez but Whitaker made him look like a very limited clubfighter.

Re: Anyone here think Chavez beat Whitaker?
This fight was quite possibly the worst decision in boxing history!
-
Re: Anyone here think Chavez beat Whitaker?
OK I confess, I am a huge JCC fan and had the fight 7 rounds to 5 for Whitaker.
Oh and I also had Chevaz winning the Meldrick Taylor fight.
So everone can shoot me now but thats how I scored it.

Re: Anyone here think Chavez beat Whitaker?
Theres only one member here that thinks Chavez beat Whitaker or deserved a draw and thats CutMeMick. Me Personally i had it 7-4-1 for Whitaker, and Master you can't be serious. Taylor dominated that fight and only lost 3 rounds at max how is it possible to have Chavez winning that fight ?? were you just giving Chavez rounds for the sake of it ??

Anyone who though Chavez Whittaker was even close, or that Chavez Taylor was close before the stoppage, had to have given Chavez many rounds just for the sake of it. It's complete fanboy dickriding to think Chavez deserved the decision he got against Pernell.

I don't even like to think back about this fight...

ICB I confessed, I am sure you have some fights in your closet. I just thought Chavez landed the harder punches, as Taylor face proved and had him a round (or two:rolleyes:) a head. However no matter how bias i am i still had Chavez losing by a round to Whitaker. My confession. JCC is my hero!

118-110 Whitaker
Whitaker won, but he didn't win that many rounds.

Re: Anyone here think Chavez beat Whitaker?
I have to admit after so many years that Whitaker simply won that fight. By a lot I might add. HE was simply the best technical fighter along side of finito Lopez that I have ever seen, even better than Pretty boy. the knock on Whitaker is that sometimes he forgot his offense and merely toyed with his challengers defensively. He was a master technician.
Chavez was my favorite fighter, but Whitaker beat him. I had the Taylor fight a draw going in to the 10.

Here you go.
wont to deep into this one, but again when Pernell fans cry for the Draw and say he complete mastered JCC and JCC never touched him. That the most JCC touched him in a round was like 5 punches at most.
I've said that I didn't think it was a robbery I said I thought JCC won this is coming from a VERY biased JCC fan. I've watched the fight several times we have the discussion. I've gotten the fight for Pernell, I've gotten a Draw which ever result I don't think JCC was outclassed and made look bad as many people like to say again this is seen from the eye of JCC fan.
I also said that if Pernell would have won that would have been fine by me, the rounds were pretty even.
The fight was a Draw, we can have 10 people watching and scoring the fight I'm certain that all 10 wont have the same score and or result. History has a way of being manipulated by the media and this whole Perenells been robbed in all of his looses/draws was something that was created by a writer over at Ring Magazine years ago. From there a site whos name I wont even bother to mention took the same article and re-wrote it from there on it spread like Wackos herpies have spread here on the forum. ;D
Again either Pernell was by far the unluckiest fighter ever or we need to really watch the fights more carefully.
He was robbed vs. JLR, JCC and ODLH. Then the Tito & Bojorquez fights don't count cause Pernell was past his best days.
I have nothing against Pernell he was by far an exceptional fighter who was light years ahead of everyone in his era but I cant agree with excuses made for the loses. I could understand the JLR loss cause I had Pernell winining the fight by like 3 round I believe. But other then that the rest of the results stand.

I'm not saying you lying. But I do need to talk to Mick about this. Cuz I think Chavez lost handily.

Re: Anyone here think Chavez beat Whitaker?
I had it 117-112 for Whitaker, or 8 rounds to 3 with one round even. I think any scorecard between 8-4 and 10-2 in rounds is acceptable. It was a clear victory for Whitaker.

If i remember right the first 6 rounds were somewhat competitive and it was probably 3-3 after 6 rounds. Then Whitaker dominated the rest of the fight, but i remember i gave Chavez the last round giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Anyone here think Chavez beat Whitaker?
Yeah, it was close through the first 5 or 6 but no disputing a Whitaker victory, seen it loads of times and like SweetPea said, it's seemingly impossible to give Chavez more then 4 rounds even when really looking to.

Chavez landed the harder punches but he was severely out punched in mostly every round, im sorry but its just not possible to have Chavez winning that fight, the punch stats were one sided in Taylor's favor as well. Why do you think its so controversial ?? its because Taylor was winning the fight easily on points.
And yes i do have favorite fighters and im sometimes little biased in my scoring but not too that extreme.

Re: Anyone here think Chavez beat Whitaker?
The judges had a few rounds unanimous for each fighter...Chavez took Rounds 1,2,5, and Whitaker took the 8th & 10th on all cards.
I think it was a case Of Whitakers showmanship working against him.I had Whitaker winning 8 rounds to 4 for Chavez. At the time I was NO fan of Whitaker....could not stand him.
Kind of Ironic that on the same card Nelson Vs. Jesse J. Lejia was also called a draw....and the went on to rematch THREE more times. Not So for Chavez/Whitaker.Deemed not even needed??Randall was lurking around the corner for Chavez ;D

Agree, regardless of Taylor trying to injure Chavez' knuckles with his face. Someone probably borrowed a marker after the fight to draw his face back.

Nelson vs Leija 1 was controversial as well i had Nelson winning that fight by 2 points i believe. Nelson won the last 3 rounds for certain and that should of gave him the nod.

I actually had Leija winning the first fight.
