I had it 117-112 for Whitaker, or 8 rounds to 3 with one round even. I think any scorecard between 8-4 and 10-2 in rounds is acceptable. It was a clear victory for Whitaker.

Yeah, it was close through the first 5 or 6 but no disputing a Whitaker victory, seen it loads of times and like SweetPea said, it's seemingly impossible to give Chavez more then 4 rounds even when really looking to.
Chavez landed the harder punches but he was severely out punched in mostly every round, im sorry but its just not possible to have Chavez winning that fight, the punch stats were one sided in Taylor's favor as well. Why do you think its so controversial ?? its because Taylor was winning the fight easily on points.
And yes i do have favorite fighters and im sometimes little biased in my scoring but not too that extreme.
The judges had a few rounds unanimous for each fighter...Chavez took Rounds 1,2,5, and Whitaker took the 8th & 10th on all cards.
I think it was a case Of Whitakers showmanship working against him.I had Whitaker winning 8 rounds to 4 for Chavez. At the time I was NO fan of Whitaker....could not stand him.
Kind of Ironic that on the same card Nelson Vs. Jesse J. Lejia was also called a draw....and the went on to rematch THREE more times. Not So for Chavez/Whitaker.Deemed not even needed??Randall was lurking around the corner for Chavez![]()
Agree, regardless of Taylor trying to injure Chavez' knuckles with his face. Someone probably borrowed a marker after the fight to draw his face back.the punch stats were one sided in Taylor's favor as well. Why do you think its so controversial ?? its because Taylor was winning the fight easily on points.
