I know it's an awful thing to say but I wanted to see just how bad Cotto could beat up Gomez. It was like watching a good horror movie and I didn't want it to end.
Was anyone else drawn into the slow punch by punch disfiguring of a man's face? It was more like a science experiment than a fight.
I wanted to see the same at first, but after about 1 round, I changed my mind, just like Cotto did, and was wanting it to get stopped sooner.
I don't want to see Floyd rematch Oscar or Hatton, but c'mon, those are way better fights, and fighters than Gomez. Quit hating.
If that were Floyd or Margarito I would have no problem with that but not Alfonso he is a nice Kid who didn't have an Idea in what he was getting into. ;DQuote:

I agree that he took it easy by not whitewashing him in 2 rounds and making him look like a child.

I Obviously enjoyed this,the brutatility and the fact Gomez wasn't damaged permanent.
But at the same time you gotta admit it was simply unacceptable that Gomez corner was pleading for 1 more round...I mean ...c'mon .........

Okay, I used to be a fan of Gomez's when I watched the show, but since he beat Gatti, his head swelled with self importance, as evident with his cheesy videos he made for the fight, plus all the crap he was spewing before the fight. So I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Cotto embarrass, and humble him. He needed to be taken down a notch.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't want to see the kid get seriously hurt. I was pissed that his own father didn't stop the fight, as some of you have said.
I've watched the fight 8 times already, and I'll probably keep watching it some more. I keep hitting the instant replay button at a few points in the fight, like when Cotto gives him a look right after the bell rings at the end of the 1st round, it's a look as though he's telling Gomez that he doesn't deserve to be in the ring with him. Also the body shot, putting him down. I just love watching those over and over again. I'm going to ask Danny to make gifs of those for me. ;D
Cotto took it easy on him. This was a pro vs. an amateur. I liked it, because it illustrated the difference between a top pro and a nobody. Cotto could've really hurt Gomez if he wanted to, but he was happy to merely humiliate him. Some chump in a couple years is gonna beat Gomez and pretend this makes him a challenger. Any good fighter can look like gangbusters vs. mediocre talent. Every fighter out there has a highlight film vs. chumps like these. Its when you step up to the top guys is when you make your bones.
Cotto is and has been the real deal, he took this fight because it made some good money and was a good prelude to the Margo fight. He has been fighting some top guys, so he deserves a bunny.
I'm a Floyd fan, but if Floyd wasn't from my home town and gym, I'd be a bigger Cotto fan. I love this guy's skills and attitude, who doesn't? I still think Floyd is too skilled not to beat him right now, but Cotto is just awesome to me.

I agree. But I dont think he(Hamed) said whether he dreamed it or thought it, he just said he knew in some way so he very well may have. I dont know, I didnt see anything wrong with him saying he didnt want to sound horrible but knew there would be a stretcher, didnt he also say he hopes the kid will be alright and that allah keeps him safe? If he had went out and said "I knew i was gonna put him on a stretcher because its my power, look at them carrying him out on a stretcher thats what I do." I could see a big problem with something. But he seemed to care about the wellbeing of his opponent, I didnt see anything wrong with that. But hey different opinions :) I rep you anyway
