The bad thing - I'm from the States, and I was booing that rendition. Whoever that was couldn't find pitch with a map.
Maybe if he fell into a piano he could hit a right note.

Re: Well done Welsh fans not booing US anthem
Hatton fans are just as much football fans than boxing.

Re: Well done Welsh fans not booing US anthem
Who gets Ray J. to sing the National Anthem????
Whitney Houston was sitting in the crowd, drag her ass up to sing the National Anthem, she's a millions times better!
Also on a side note, if I had Tom Jones singing the anthem before I came to the ring, I would also have him sing my intro music because that would be bad as hell!

Re: Well done Welsh fans not booing US anthem
Ray J did miss a few notes singing the anthem... didn't he.

Perhaps you should watch Borat again, I'm sure the Kazakstani anthem wasn't particularly welcome at that hick convention;)

Was that before or after Borat was talking about Bush drinking the blood of the Iraqis???

Tell you the truth... I was actually cringing before the high notes in "and the rockets red glare" and "land of the free." I was certain he was going to crack.

Fair point.

Re: Well done Welsh fans not booing US anthem
Yup, it was all good in showing respect to the opposing fans (or maybe just a convenient break to load up on beer before the fight started). ;)
As for Tom Jones....it wasn't a good rendition of the welsh national anthem from my point of view. Way too fast and lacking in passion.
What is it in America with singing national anthems without musical accompaniment?

He was also making up the words as he went along.

Re: Well done Welsh fans not booing US anthem
Welsh fans show respect and that's how it should be. Maybe the English Hatton fans should try the same.
-
Re: Well done Welsh fans not booing US anthem
I blame Ray Jay for the loss(he killed the whole patriotic vibe), :p he sounded like his voice was cracking like a 13 year old going through puberty. One of the worst renditions I've heard...I wouldn't have blamed the Welsh or Americans for booing that one. ;D
-
Re: Well done Welsh fans not booing US anthem
Wales definitely won the national anthem battle too. I thought Tom Jones did very well. What were the Welsh fans chanting before the fight started? It was "stand up if ........ ? " Anybody know?

He still can't touch Carl Lewis' National Anthem....they should have hung him for treason for singing it like that! OR Rosanne Barr....JESUS who thought that was a good idea?!?!?!
One that got screwwed up but I thought was very touching was when a little girl forgot the words and was just suffering major stage fright singing the anthem before an NBA game and coach Maurice Cheeks went over to her and helped her sing the rest of it....not the best rendition but by the end the entire arena was singing with them.

The kid couldn't sing his way out of a paper bag... but let's look at the bright side. At least they didn't put Roseanne Barr in there, so she could scratch and burp her way through the anthem. Baseball is the only sport stupid enough to have done that.

Re: Well done Welsh fans not booing US anthem
UK fans are like Texas Longhorn fans. They'll travel ANYWHERE.

Those weren't Welsh fans. Me and my mates all Welsh clapped the US anthem that night. Pity our friends from across the border didn't do the same.
Anyway the evidence is there - Welsh fans didn't boo at the Hopkins fight but English fans booed at the Hatton/Mayweather fight. Shame on them.

If they were not Welsh fans who were they ?? there was a welsh fighter involved and it was held in wales
How many Welsh fans went over to support their boy yesterday, 10,000 ?? Shame on you.
Hatton fans more than doubled that for the PBF fight and yet the Hatton fight was on the eve of Christmas when most people are saving money.
English support is well better that Welsh support.

No credibility in your arguement there. There were plenty of English fans at Joe's fight against Manfredo, I know cos they were the ones booing.
This topic is about the booing of a national anthem not a popularity contest between Calzaghe and Hatton and at the end of the day there are 50 million people in England and 3 million in Wales - so it is pretty bloody obvious who will have the bigger fan base.
How is English support better? - what a strange and inaccurate statement, Lee.

Not everybody in the UK likes Ricky Hatton whearas virtually all Welsh people LOVE Joe Calzaghe.
English support is better, fact, we took nearly 30,000 for Hatton/Floyd and you guys take a third of that, fact.
I don't need to argue, England ouclasses Wales when it comes to Boxing, David Haye recently proved that
-
Re: Well done Welsh fans not booing US anthem
English hooligans simply don't like the US and it's because they are pathetic ignorant peasants who are oblivious to the fact that the USA and England are basically family.
If you want to boo my national anthem you had better hope I don't see or hear you do it in person

Would you prefer it if we changed the words instead of booing?
The land of the slaves and home of the cowards?
And saying we are family. Thats a new one on me!
You do realise your USA national anthem was written just after the burning to the ground of your entire capital Washington including the White House. It took over 5 years to rebuild the damage.
I believe it was in done in return for the USA causeing terrorist attacks on Canada.
We are far from family and IMO far from freinds, Youre republicans and we most certainly are not.

How many fans did Hatton take over for his first fight against Collazo?

Sorry Lee. You're ignoring the fact of proportional populational representation. With England's population of 50m and Wales slightly over 3m, 30,000 fans related with 8,000 dwarfs the english support proportionally.
And let's have a look at the number of Welsh champions against English champs proportionally over the past five years.
Or is it the ability of the English fans to boo throughout the American national anthem and disrespect their country that makes the England fans "better"?

I wasnt placing the blame of slavery on the USA.
I simply changed the words of the US national anthem.
As for world war 2 you do realise Britian fought the nazis on their own for 1 year and then with the Russians for 3 until the USA cowards turned up.
By that time, Britain had won the battle for Britian. Won in East and West africa and winning in the north.
Russia had won in Moscow,Stalingrand and Leningrad and had the nazis retreating before the USA even landed in europe.
In reality it was us British and allies who saved USA from the Japanese.
Not only was the A bomb realised possible in Britian but we were fighting the Japnese while the USA did nothing but retreat and surredender for 6 months.
Britian also destroyed more of the Japanese army than the USA.
Sayonara
Oh thats right you dont speak Japanese.

Listen to this translated.
I like the second verse.
"We fought for the future, destroyed the invader and brought to our home land the larels of fame."
"Our glory will live in the memory of nations, and all generations will honor her name."
"Long live our soviet mother land".
Says it all, just a shame you in the USA are taught false history.
