Yup, it was all good in showing respect to the opposing fans (or maybe just a convenient break to load up on beer before the fight started).

As for Tom Jones....it wasn't a good rendition of the welsh national anthem from my point of view. Way too fast and lacking in passion.

What is it in America with singing national anthems without musical accompaniment?

He was also making up the words as he went along.

Welsh fans show respect and that's how it should be. Maybe the English Hatton fans should try the same.

Those weren't Welsh fans. Me and my mates all Welsh clapped the US anthem that night. Pity our friends from across the border didn't do the same.

Anyway the evidence is there - Welsh fans didn't boo at the Hopkins fight but English fans booed at the Hatton/Mayweather fight. Shame on them.

If they were not Welsh fans who were they ?? there was a welsh fighter involved and it was held in wales

How many Welsh fans went over to support their boy yesterday, 10,000 ?? Shame on you.

Hatton fans more than doubled that for the PBF fight and yet the Hatton fight was on the eve of Christmas when most people are saving money.

English support is well better that Welsh support.

No credibility in your arguement there. There were plenty of English fans at Joe's fight against Manfredo, I know cos they were the ones booing.

This topic is about the booing of a national anthem not a popularity contest between Calzaghe and Hatton and at the end of the day there are 50 million people in England and 3 million in Wales - so it is pretty bloody obvious who will have the bigger fan base.

How is English support better? - what a strange and inaccurate statement, Lee.

To be honest mate you had to be out there in Vegas to see the kind of people we are dealing with here. These weren't boxing fans.
You telling me a boxing fan doesn't know who Bert Sugar, Angelo Dundee and Sugar Shane Mosely are? These guys were getting free roam in the MGM and when me and my boy were getting pictures done I had a guy ask me 'Who are them 2??'...''erm, how about Muhamad Ali's trainer?'

Then you had the 2 pissed guys from London behind us when we were checking in. The lady behind the counter was a really nice woman and doing her best to sort out a problem for us whilst these pricks were hiding behind my shoulder making snyde comments like 'Waa! Ching Chong China Woman!' amongst other racist remarks (the lady was oriental). Very embaressing.

Then you get the boo'ing of the national anthem and 2 fights breaking out during the fight and you begin to understand the class of the fans that travelled over there...I'm generalising and I apologise to the respectful fans but I think we can all agree 90% of them were booing the anthem.

I blame Ray Jay for the loss(he killed the whole patriotic vibe), he sounded like his voice was cracking like a 13 year old going through puberty. One of the worst renditions I've heard...I wouldn't have blamed the Welsh or Americans for booing that one.

Wales definitely won the national anthem battle too. I thought Tom Jones did very well. What were the Welsh fans chanting before the fight started? It was "stand up if ........ ? " Anybody know?

He still can't touch Carl Lewis' National Anthem....they should have hung him for treason for singing it like that! OR Rosanne Barr....JESUS who thought that was a good idea?!?!?!

One that got screwwed up but I thought was very touching was when a little girl forgot the words and was just suffering major stage fright singing the anthem before an NBA game and coach Maurice Cheeks went over to her and helped her sing the rest of it....not the best rendition but by the end the entire arena was singing with them.

The kid couldn't sing his way out of a paper bag... but let's look at the bright side. At least they didn't put Roseanne Barr in there, so she could scratch and burp her way through the anthem. Baseball is the only sport stupid enough to have done that.

UK fans are like Texas Longhorn fans. They'll travel ANYWHERE.
