Can I Ask You Guys Something Regarding The Pavlik vs Calzaghe Fight.
What weight class would this fight take place at ?? i can't see Calzaghe dropping back down to Super Middleweight and i can't see Pavlik jumping straight from Middleweight to Light Heavyweight, not straight away anyway.

It's a bit early to say. It would suit Joe I guess for it to be at LHW since that would make Pavlik move a lot in weight. That's why i don't at this stage see it happening.

Re: Can I Ask You Guys Something Regarding The Pavlik vs Calzaghe Fight.
Good question ICB. I wrote out a thread about this same thing yesterday, and thought it was tooo dumb to post, so I didn't:D
Actually the thread was about a Taylor/Calzaghe fight. I was wondering what weight a fight with Pavlik/Calzaghe would be at and figured it would make more sense to have a Calzaghe/Taylor fight rather than Pavlik; at least in a weight sense. Sure Pavlik ko'd JT once, but the second fight was much closer and JT still has something to offer. I know nothing would be on the line from JT, but it could be a good fight; and I don't see how Pavlik is just going to jump up to LHW, though he has the heigth.
My post is still stupid:-\ I need to go wake up 1st:rolleyes:

Re: Can I Ask You Guys Something Regarding The Pavlik vs Calzaghe Fight.
One thing i will say had that been Pavlik's right hand that dropped Calzaghe he wouldn't have got back up.Shame Calzaghe didn't try to make super fights years ago rather than fighting in a comfort zone cos lets have it right Hopkins and Jones are massive names but aren't at there best.

Re: Can I Ask You Guys Something Regarding The Pavlik vs Calzaghe Fight.
I will say I would love to see thif fight with Joe and Kelly; I actually think Kelly can pull it off{but I also thought Lacy would put a hurt on him as well:rolleyes:}
But still, Pavlik knows how to finish if he knows how to do anything, and if he rocked Joe; like TYSONBRUNO said, he might not have made it back up, or been in serious trouble if he did.

Yeah Pavlik, for all the sloppy footwork he shows in the ring, probably has one of the best offensive arsenals in the sport as he can bomb you out from distance or tear you up badly when in close. There is a reason that fighters need to stay off the ropes against him. I consider him the best finisher period.
If he had better footwork, he would truly be a monster. As it stands though a good mover can beat him. If Joe can use his legs to pick his spots against Pavlik, he can win. The question is will his 37 year old legs allow him to?

Hopkins was still gonna ruin JC though wasn't he ;)

Re: Can I Ask You Guys Something Regarding The Pavlik vs Calzaghe Fight.
It would happen at 168. I don't think fighting at 175 would benefit Calzaghe, I reckon he still comes in the ring same weight, except with the extra work he won't look so sluggish.
This would be the perfect finale for JC, I just hope Pavlik brutally knocks out his two next opponents just to reiterate to Joe tha t he is not too be taken lightly. I'll say it again, if Joe comes in sloppy and unprepared against Pavlik he gets KTFO.

I believe it will be around 170 ish. Pavlik naturally is around175. I will even go as far to say if he fights Pavlik how he fought Hopkins he will get knocked out.No one gave him a chance agianst Miranda. No one gave him much of a chance with Taylor. He beat both of them and knocked them out very violently.

Re: Can I Ask You Guys Something Regarding The Pavlik vs Calzaghe Fight.
it should be at 168 no doubt. joe may struggle to make that weight but it doesn't show in the fights he has had at that weight

Re: Can I Ask You Guys Something Regarding The Pavlik vs Calzaghe Fight.
Pavlik needs to fight Nard first to get a shot at the p4p king. ;D

I dont know if your deluded, or a hater, or genuinely confused? Let me explain the truth:
Firstly calzaghe DID OFFER RJJ A FIGHT LOTS OF TIMES but rjj didnt accept (why should he have accepted as calzaghe never had popularity in usa, jones wouldnt have gotten much money and it wouldve prob been his riskiest fight, made no sense for jones at all to fight a risky, relatively unknown southpaw fighter).
Secondly, hopkins WAS A FRIGGIN MIDDLEWEIGHT!!! He was never a supermiddle weight...WHY DID HE NOT MOVE UPTO SUPERMIDDLE TO FIGHT CALZAGHE? WHY DID HE NEVER CALL CALZAGHE OUT???
Thirdly...so you think winky and tarver are crap aswell then? Seeing as the 'past it' hopkins demolished tarver and comrehensively beat winky.
Face it mate, stop hating. Or perhaps i'll give you the benifit of the doubt, maybe you genuinely didnt realise that calzaghe offered jones a fight years ago, but its pretty common knowledge jones never wanted to fight joe and for pretty good reasons aswell:
1. No money comparatively to other big name us fights
2. Risky southpaw fighter
3. Unkown fighter with lots of risk that wouldnt have increased jones' rep in us.

Points 1.2.3 are true , but anyone who believes for one minute that Calzaghe would have beaten Jones in there primes is dreaming , thats why Calzaghe spent his best years fighting WBO joke challengers , and i for 1 fine it a waste , why didnt Calzaghe step up to LHW years ago and fight Jones ??? and for those who say why should he have , then i ask you this WHY SHOULD PAVLIK MOVE UP TO FIGHT CALZAGHE ???
Simple fact is Calzaghe beat a guy who was 43 , now he wants Jones who is late thirties , STUFF OF LEGENDS FOR SURE LOL
Another point is this if Larry Homes aged 40 something , beat George Foreman 40 something , does that mean Larry would have beaten George if they were near there primes ??? Well of course it doesnt , so Calzaghe has beaten Hopkins ( 43) if he beats Jones it just makes him better than them at this advanced stage of there career's .
Its all about money now and i dont blame Calzaghe for that , but as for true impact on boxing history , well im not so sure.

Re: Can I Ask You Guys Something Regarding The Pavlik vs Calzaghe Fight.
So who should he have fought instead of the 43 year old Hopkins and who should he fight now?

Agreed.
The thing is you keep going back to his past record, well he has stepped up and fought the 3 people everybody said he must fight, what more can he do to impress?

To be fair BIG H i wasnt one of the people wanting Calzaghe to fight HOPKINS OR JONES AT THIS STAGE OF THERE CAREERS.

Fair enough, but even at this stage in Hopkins career, who would be a bigger challenge at 168 or 175?

Why not?...Joe is 1 fight out of the SMW division....He has been able to make the weight...Might be harder for him as with every boxer as they get older but not a crazy concept for him not like he would become weight drained to any real extent.....
As for Kelly he is a big guy naturally...he walks around as a LHW easily...if he focused his training on strength and conditioning so the keep on weight is turned into muscle and he has nothing to drop before the fight and keeps his stamina it would be fine...Joe is not a big puncher so that would not come into play....It is very reasonable to say this could take place at either weight with no problem....
If Kelly was going to face a natural LHW like Tarver or something first time out that would be different

I believe he beats Hopkins into retirement. He beats him and he does it fair easily. Something Calzaghe couldnt do. Cotto is higher on my pound 4 pound list than Calzaghe.

Re: Can I Ask You Guys Something Regarding The Pavlik vs Calzaghe Fight.
Be back at super-middle this would easy..Im sure i saw Calzaghe quoted somewere saying he would drop back down if he had to. Pavlik looked pretty mean when he weighed 166 for the taylor re-match so I dont know how Joe feels about taking the fight.
I feel he deserves to ride into the sunset with the seniers now. But Finishing off his career on Pavlik(if he won) would be one hell of a send off.

Doesnt that sum up Calzaghe's place in history up ?
That Hopkins aged 43 was the best fight out there ?

Not his fault if he so much better than everybody else ;D

Re: Can I Ask You Guys Something Regarding The Pavlik vs Calzaghe Fight.
The fight would be at 168 if it happened i'm assuming..
As far as i'm concerned, Pavlik is the best fight for Calzaghe's legacy i think.. and heck, even if he does beat Pavlik, he can still fight Jones, but if Cal wants the best chance to beat Pavlik then he should do it sooner than later..
I'd rank the Lacy victory and the Kessler fight higher than the Hopkins victory.. Simply because they were young HUNGRY guys who were in there to take Cal's head off, and he boxed their asses off, and in Lacy's case really put a hurt on him.. It showed his great abilities and talents.. Against Hopkins he looked sloppy and BARELY won the fight.. Granted Hopkins will make anyone look silly but i'm still much more impressed with his wins over Kessler/Lacy.. With that said, adding Pavlik to that list will be huge IMO.. Another YOUNG HUNGRY up and comer that has all the hype in the world..
It's funny cause it's been said that Cal has no chance against Lacy, that he has no chance against Kessler.. but after those fights no one really had anything to say but that Calzaghe put on a brilliant showing.. after this last Hopkins fight, everyone says either that he didn't win, or that Hopkins is 43 and who cares..
Point being that if he beat Pavlik, no one would have anything but praise for him, as opposed to fighting RJJ, well you can always say that he's WELL past his prime and that it wasn't that great of a victory.. etc..
OH BTW.. what happened to "I think you're gonna see the power at 175.. i'll be able to showcase my power" What a JOKE!!..

That is either a joke or a clouded judgment.
Calzaghe isnt going to be regarded as a better fighter in boxing history than Jones by beating him when he is over the hill. As i said its a good payday for Calzaghe end of story.

No mate deadly serious! NOBODY in the world is better at 168 or 175 than Calzaghe AT THE MOMENT. I don't think he should fight RJJ, and I don't think he would've beaten a prime RJJ either, what I am saying is, for the last 3 out of 4 fights he has stepped up and fought the man everybody said he should, he can't do anymore than that! If he fights RJJ for a payday he deserves it, afterall Pavlick is taking a safe fight against Lockett. Personally, I would like to see Calzgahe have one more fight against Pavlick, who I see as the only real fighter at their peak and on their way up between Middle and Light Heavy.
What I am saying to you is, in the last 2 years i.e since Lacy, who could Calzaghe have fought to impress you more than the 3 men he has just beat?

Then again Joe normally looks sensational when faced with an opponent who comes to fight.
