What weight class would this fight take place at ?? i can't see Calzaghe dropping back down to Super Middleweight and i can't see Pavlik jumping straight from Middleweight to Light Heavyweight, not straight away anyway.

Good question ICB. I wrote out a thread about this same thing yesterday, and thought it was tooo dumb to post, so I didn't
Actually the thread was about a Taylor/Calzaghe fight. I was wondering what weight a fight with Pavlik/Calzaghe would be at and figured it would make more sense to have a Calzaghe/Taylor fight rather than Pavlik; at least in a weight sense. Sure Pavlik ko'd JT once, but the second fight was much closer and JT still has something to offer. I know nothing would be on the line from JT, but it could be a good fight; and I don't see how Pavlik is just going to jump up to LHW, though he has the heigth.
My post is still stupidI need to go wake up 1st

One thing i will say had that been Pavlik's right hand that dropped Calzaghe he wouldn't have got back up.Shame Calzaghe didn't try to make super fights years ago rather than fighting in a comfort zone cos lets have it right Hopkins and Jones are massive names but aren't at there best.
I will say I would love to see thif fight with Joe and Kelly; I actually think Kelly can pull it off{but I also thought Lacy would put a hurt on him as well}
But still, Pavlik knows how to finish if he knows how to do anything, and if he rocked Joe; like TYSONBRUNO said, he might not have made it back up, or been in serious trouble if he did.
Yeah Pavlik, for all the sloppy footwork he shows in the ring, probably has one of the best offensive arsenals in the sport as he can bomb you out from distance or tear you up badly when in close. There is a reason that fighters need to stay off the ropes against him. I consider him the best finisher period.
If he had better footwork, he would truly be a monster. As it stands though a good mover can beat him. If Joe can use his legs to pick his spots against Pavlik, he can win. The question is will his 37 year old legs allow him to?

It would happen at 168. I don't think fighting at 175 would benefit Calzaghe, I reckon he still comes in the ring same weight, except with the extra work he won't look so sluggish.
This would be the perfect finale for JC, I just hope Pavlik brutally knocks out his two next opponents just to reiterate to Joe tha t he is not too be taken lightly. I'll say it again, if Joe comes in sloppy and unprepared against Pavlik he gets KTFO.
I believe it will be around 170 ish. Pavlik naturally is around175. I will even go as far to say if he fights Pavlik how he fought Hopkins he will get knocked out.No one gave him a chance agianst Miranda. No one gave him much of a chance with Taylor. He beat both of them and knocked them out very violently.
it should be at 168 no doubt. joe may struggle to make that weight but it doesn't show in the fights he has had at that weight
Pavlik needs to fight Nard first to get a shot at the p4p king.![]()
I dont know if your deluded, or a hater, or genuinely confused? Let me explain the truth:
Firstly calzaghe DID OFFER RJJ A FIGHT LOTS OF TIMES but rjj didnt accept (why should he have accepted as calzaghe never had popularity in usa, jones wouldnt have gotten much money and it wouldve prob been his riskiest fight, made no sense for jones at all to fight a risky, relatively unknown southpaw fighter).
Secondly, hopkins WAS A FRIGGIN MIDDLEWEIGHT!!! He was never a supermiddle weight...WHY DID HE NOT MOVE UPTO SUPERMIDDLE TO FIGHT CALZAGHE? WHY DID HE NEVER CALL CALZAGHE OUT
Thirdly...so you think winky and tarver are crap aswell then? Seeing as the 'past it' hopkins demolished tarver and comrehensively beat winky.
Face it mate, stop hating. Or perhaps i'll give you the benifit of the doubt, maybe you genuinely didnt realise that calzaghe offered jones a fight years ago, but its pretty common knowledge jones never wanted to fight joe and for pretty good reasons aswell:
1. No money comparatively to other big name us fights
2. Risky southpaw fighter
3. Unkown fighter with lots of risk that wouldnt have increased jones' rep in us.
Points 1.2.3 are true , but anyone who believes for one minute that Calzaghe would have beaten Jones in there primes is dreaming , thats why Calzaghe spent his best years fighting WBO joke challengers , and i for 1 fine it a waste , why didnt Calzaghe step up to LHW years ago and fight Jonesand for those who say why should he have , then i ask you this WHY SHOULD PAVLIK MOVE UP TO FIGHT CALZAGHE
Simple fact is Calzaghe beat a guy who was 43 , now he wants Jones who is late thirties , STUFF OF LEGENDS FOR SURE LOL
Another point is this if Larry Homes aged 40 something , beat George Foreman 40 something , does that mean Larry would have beaten George if they were near there primesWell of course it doesnt , so Calzaghe has beaten Hopkins ( 43) if he beats Jones it just makes him better than them at this advanced stage of there career's .
Its all about money now and i dont blame Calzaghe for that , but as for true impact on boxing history , well im not so sure.

So who should he have fought instead of the 43 year old Hopkins and who should he fight now?
