Why the hatred against ODLH?
I have been curious about this for a while now here in the forum. I'll say 95% of the people on this forum utterly hate ODLH. I could understand why people would hate Mayweather, Naz, Mike Tyson, Hopkins, etc. I mean, they have shown to be talk trash about others, have no charisma, unrespectful, etc. Even outside the ring. But, OSCAR?! He is far from being a trash talk, having no charisma, being unrespectful, etc. He is a gentleman and has fought whoever, just look at his resume. He has brought boxing some of the most exciting fights.
It seems that everything he does is just wrong no matter what. Cotto faced a lesser opponent and everybody was happy. Oscar did the same thing and everybody thought that was the worse thing ever done. Someone can do whatever but if Oscar does the same then it is simply unacceptable. I don't understand.
Let's say Oscar wins his next last 2 fights. I wonder if people in this forum will admit that he did a good job with no excuse and give him credit.
Why do you hate Oscar?

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
I don't hate Oscar. I voted a decision win for him against Forbes. I wanted him to win against Floyd. He's way past his prime, and I think Cotto would do give him the worst physical beating of his life.

Well, you're right and wrong... Let me explain... I am not a ODLH fan... But I'll explain that later. Let me elude to a few of the issues that people have with him.
Oscar is a good fighter, no doubt, but he has gotten a bunch of gift decisions in his career to carry him when it other wise could have derailed it...
He has become a rich, "white"(please don't take this out of context... It is here for a reason) CEO who as "hungry" as he claims to be is very self important and pretty much a bulshit artist...
Take a look at the Steve Forbes countdown... He took a sweat and tears gym and turned it into a billboard for goldenboy... He ruined the "rugged" gym that was there and replaced the ring and redid the whole thing... Is that what "going back to your roots" is?
He embarassed a hero trying to get the Mexican population to love him... That backfired
He's a friggin crossdresser...
....
Geezus, I could go on for a while...
I'll allow you to rubutle if you'd like but the facts remain...
Is ODLH a good fighter? Yes...
Has he made sellout and career decisions that have worked against him even while winning and gaining "fans"
Yes...

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
I think its ridiculous to say that ODLH is way past his prime, sure he fights different than he used, but his is a little slower, but he has better defense. I don't think his power has diminished, I saw him landing left hooks to the body against Forbes similar to the body punches Cotto lands. Cotto has also had a hard time taking out some of his opponents, Paulie, N'Dou... whom a lot of people thought he would stop.

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
Pacstraightleft,
Yes, I also voted for his win against Forbes and even though I like Oscar I somehow was expecting him to knock this guy out. So I was a bit dissapointed considering he was a lesser opponent. Someone mentioned that Mayweather wouldn't knock him out as well. Still, the only thing I liked was that he jabbed more (30+ jabs per round) which was something he didn't do against Mayweather and somehow looked ok.
As for Oscar vs Cotto, after saturday, I see Cotto having a possibility to score a win. Cotto vs Mayweather, I find it hard to see Cotto win.

Gifts as well as the other way around. Trinidad, Mosley II, etc. Somehow don't convince me as LOSSES to Oscar. So if we are going to say he got gift decisions we have to also see the other side of the coin. Many boxers out there have gotten gift decisions but, like I said before, it seems "acceptable" as long as it is not Oscar.

I can't think of any boxer out there who wouldn't want to do whatever to get bigger paydays. And as for the "white" thing, isn't he Mexican? lol

And let's see the positive, HE MADE IT FREE and accessible to the fans. Something I am yet to see from ANY big name out there.

That's good to hear. Many out there don't even want to admit that saying that he got handpicked opponents, he got lucky, fighters were not on their prime, his resume is mediocre, etc.
Taeth,
Not only that but Cotto has been rocked, cut, knocked down, about to have the fight stopped, etc. Against not only well-known fighters but also journeymen.

I saw Oscar eating shots he never should have taken from Forbes keeping his hand down...
Lamply talked so much about all the parrying Oscar was doing... Bullshit, Oscar years ago would have slipped them and his deflection of blows from Forbes with his gloves was lack luster at best...
If that were floyd and not stevie Oscar would have taken a beating from Floyd...
I wanted Oscar to win against floyd and want him to win the second fight but if he thinks he can win the way he fought Forbes he's sadly mistaken...
He'll get worked if he walks in with his hand lowered like that letting floyd get off...
His defense did not look as good as you claim... it was ok at best

I asked you not to take "White" out of context... The reason I used that word is because that's how the Mexican community see him now... See my point?
I root for Oscar in most of his fights because I most likely don't like who he's fighting...
I don't hate Oscar and he has had many Great fights in his career... I loved the Vargas KO but I don't like him either...
I'm pretty indifferent...
I watch his fights and many times enjoy them... He's not on my favorite fighter list, though.

Yes...
The thing about being a boxing fan, where you're talking boxing everyday on a forum like this is that we all form a sense of tunnel vision.. Sometimes it's hard to see and realize what the general public feels, and we forget that unfortunately, in a sport like boxing where their is not a HUGE fan base whatsoever, the general public has a lot of pull.... and what i mean by that is when there is a "megafight" coming up, the amount of people who aren't "huge" boxing fans like us (the general public) take up the large majority of the PPV buys.. These are the people who have a like for the sport of boxing, but couldn't name 3 lightweights.. i feel that that group of people are the majority of PPV buys, as opposed to us avid fans who are simply just too small of a group to be the MAIN target for the fights..
so, with all that said, ODLH being the face of boxing, being a good looking, well mannered, GREAT fighter, is VERY appealing to the mainstream of society.. And anytime you have a mainstream crowd that bows down to one specific fighter (or with music even.. when everyone LOVED britney spears because she appealed to the mainstream, regardless of the fact that she was a talentless whore).. it's easy to be a critic..
So i think that is where all the hatred comes from.. It's easy to criticize and pick apart someone, and go against the grain..
unfortunately ODLH is a hell of a fighter, with one of the best resume's i've ever seen, so there lies the mixture of haters/fans..
so that's my only problem POB.. you can't blame him for his gift decisions.. in fact he at least owns up to the fact that he wasn't the best in those fights.. the one that comes to mind is the vargas fight.. my problem is that the guy has balls.. he fought the best when he was in his prime, and he's still fighting the best.. regardless of how much money he makes, or how he tries to sell his fights, he still has balls to get in the ring with the best competition.. so i can't hate on the guy..

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
Pride,
Gotta agree with you. I was not expecting Oscar to look the way he did this weekend. His face after the fight showed something else about his defense. He looked cleaner after the Mayweather fight.

I agree with this.. i think Oscar looked deceptive as far as his defense was concerned.. the main thing is that he was WAY more CALM then he was in the PBF fight.. He knew steve couldn't really hurt him so at time he wasn't even trying to block punches he would just stand in there and take a shot or two so that he could land a shot.. unfortunately he can't do that with PBF because A.) floyd hits harder than Forbes and B.) as soon as floyd lands he's out of range in a split second..
So i didn't feel that his "defense" was better, but more that he was more calm and was able to settle down and throw some good punches.

And many times it's not their fault. It's like when people rooted for the Chicago Bulls just because Michael Jordan played there. You would ask people "So, besides Jordan, who else do you like in the Chicago Bulls?" and they wouldn't be able to answer.

I entirly agree with your post from start to finish.
I DO think that his mainstream appeal probably has alot to do with it... Maybe it's even a little bit of revile for the people that know only his and Tyson's name... It's really hard to tell, though... But like I said above... For as many things as I can say against him I can say for him... His KO of Mayorga was GREAT... Him standing up to the P4P#1 was ballsy...
Like I said... I enjoy most of his fights but he is not on my favorite fighter list cuz he doesn't embody the atributes I love in my fighters... This is not to say I will not give credit where it's due
I'm not even close to a hater...
And I entirely agree that the decisions are not his fault but I still for some reason(right or wrong) resent him for them...
Just saying how I feel... Everyone else can feel how they want.
... But nice post RP33... I agree;)

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
Right now oscar isn't going to be the most popular person in town cause he's is being seen as getting in the way of bigger and better fights none of which involve him. If he could have come away destroying forbes he might have been able to spark some interest in a rematch. It's just my view but i sat watching saturday for something anything that said, hey maybe the second time around things will be a little different, there were positives, but in comparison to the level of fighter he was in against i'm not sure if oscar can really be looking forward to facing floyd again ...seems like a whole lot of months of crappy build up just to have floyd whoop oscar even worse this time. I personally don't even think we're gonna make it to a third remaining fight if he fights floyd next. That being said oscar did his job this weekend...won the fight and looked pretty decent as a whole. I see oscars best chance being floyd taking him too lightly. And spending more time trying to convince us oscar can beat him than actually getting ready for the fight. But seeing how well floyd has been as far as preperation in the past....i doubt oscar has any chance at all. I do like oscar though..just to throw that in.

I do agree except for the rematch part... Like I said earlier, if he fights like he fought Forbes he's be dismantled by PBF... But... Floyd won't do much different in preparation IMO... He'll just figure that his ability to adjust and his athletisism will win the day.. Like it always does...
See, I see Oscar preparing for a totally different fight... He has Sr. in his corner and not Roach(who I see as overrated and a mercinary)... I see him Jabbing throughout and the jab getting to floyd.
Like I said months ago...
It will be Oscar's night!

I USED to be a fan of DLH but as POB has said...DLH has become phony...he tried too hard the other night to overplay how tough Forbes was...And that is of no disrespect to Forbes he is a hell of a nice guy and a skilled fighter but with that being said...DLH acted as though he was trying to convince people of the opposite of what that fight was....A hand picked opponent...Nothing more nothing less...anyone who says different is blinded by fanboy light....
ANYONE in the 154lb division and I am speaking of full fledged 154lb fighters would have been able to fight him....Any of the champions would have taken the fight....
Forrest would have taken the fight even with the Morea bout coming up....
He did not choose Spinks because he knows he would have sapent the night looking old and foolish....Verno Phillips would have taken the fight...again it would not have mattered to either that they fought a month ago...all this bout had to do was be moved forward 2 or 3 weeks....Alcine more then open...The payday any of them garnered for a fight with DLH would have gladly found a way to have time for him....Kirkland Baldomir, Santos.....but DLH wanted an easy night where he woukld look great and dominate...a fight where he could sit at the press conference and say "I'M BACK"...and make fans clamour for the PBF rematch......It never happened...Forbes lost but spoiled Oscars plans.....
DLH is phoney, he is about as genuine as a $3.00 bill...He was a great fighter who I will say has always made sure he fought the best....His resume may be the best in the last 50 years but....That was then this is now....Either fight or promote...Don't fight just because you can promote your bouts and always make sure you are the main attraction....Like a spoiled little girl....
and for those who like to applaud him for his brilliance of being such a successful promoter and building up GBP so much....Truth is Oscar is only the face of the company...it is his popularity that they use and while he is CEO he does very little of the operations except make sure he is present at all public functions...he does not make the fights, sign the fighters, come up with the matches, or anything else that Don King and Bob Arum did to become who they are.....Yet he will not give credit to those who do....all he ever says is "WE"....
Those are just a few of the reasons I dislike Oscar

I agree and I thought that the most rediculous thing I've seen in a while...(I just need to reiterate cuz it went up my as sideways) Was when it talked about him going back to his roots at this tiny gym... Was it me or did the godenboy fairy vomit all over that place... New ring and all.
My favorte thing last week was the countdown where dream on is playing in the background and there is the gayest montage I've ever seen with oscar looking up thoughtfully leaning against the goldenboy plastered "OLD" gym... All it was missing was him running into the surf grappling for apollo creed...

All it was missing was him running into the surf grappling for apollo creed...[/quote]

Maybe, maybe not. Because if he did get KO Forbes it would be expected of people to say "Oh, he was not a big name. I am still not interested in the rematch". Like I said, people just can't approve whatever he does regardless of other fighters doing exact the same thing. I can imagine that if Oscar destroyed Forbes, he would be hated even more.

I root for Oscar but I agree with you. If it was a big name then I would be quite happy but just having that thought in my mind that Forbes was not a top boxer then I am not as convinced.

I think any fighter out there would be pretty dumb not to look for a bigger paycheck. Don't we all want that in our jobs as well? As for his marketing, sure, that works with him. Others are flamboyant, etc. I am not sure if Cotto has the best marketing to score some interest in Floyd. I just don't think he has complete fear and sees Cotto as a nightmare. Gotta get the bigger paycheck, that's all.

It is called "selling the fight to the public". Just like some even go as far as talking trash about the other's mother or wife and at the end go and apologize. Some don't even apologize. It would be a bit dumb from his part to talk about how Forbes was just a tune up and make it seem boring. ANY smart fighter out there will do whatever to sell a fight.

A hand picked opponent like Gomez vs Cotto, but that seems to be totally acceptable. I don't remember Cotto saying that Gomez was just a tune up or a stepping stone.

Fighting Mayweather and possibliy Cotto is no "gimme", is it? Even if he is past his prime, taking those fights is something to admire, don't you think? So he is STILL facing quality opposition, let's just not focus on Forbes. Also, who else gives free fights and makes them accessible like ODLH just did this weekend?

LOL....Funny thing is he was thinking about what it would have been like to be hugging Carl Weathers on a beach while leaning on the poster:-X...
WTF is he talking about going back to the "Old" days...DLH has not been in a sweatbox type hardcore old school gym since he was a kid....The second he made national champion as an amatuer and especially when he made the olympic team he has been in nothing but the best gyms available....
The "Old" Days:rolleyes:....

See, whatever Oscar does is considered bad. Why would he need to fight in a worn out gym or whatever? Even PAC came over to the USA to train instead of staying in his old Manila gym. But then again, that is fine and totally acceptable, but if Oscar does it oh no no no no no, that is so bad. So what if he trains on a parking lot or in a fancy gym?

Actually no you are wrong about Cotto...The other top level guys at 147.were commited...Williams just lost to Quintana, Margarito/Cintron were on the same card, Floyd is MIA...There goes any other championship bouts that could have been made that night....Cotto has an obligation to his organization to defend his belt before any unifactation....Gomez was ranked...Gomez is a natural 147 pound fighter....You are going to try and tell me a fight with Forbes a guy who struggled to make weight on the contender and has never fought above 140 and Oscar had to have a catch weight of 150 due to those reasons was an obvious or should I say logical opponent?...Especially when he could have gone for a world title?...With Aceline if any other champion was available and has not fought in over 5 months so please save the BS...NO ONE PICKS A FIGHTER NOT RANKED IN THEIR PERSPECTIVE DIVISION AND HAS NOTHING OF NOTE TO GAIN OFF A VICTORY OVER WHEN THERE ARE OTHERS WITH SOMETHING TO GAIN EG- A WORLD TITLE AVAILABLE....And the caps are so maybe you will actually think about that for a second...Shit Forbes is not even a top 25 ranked fighter at WW
Sell the fight:confused::confused:...Someone in the game as long as Oscar has been and someone who has had as many titles as Oscar has should not be going out of their way to SELL a fight....And you don't SELL a fight after it is over
If you rememebr anything about the Cotto/Gomez fight Cotto pretty much had NOTHING to say about it....He was not going to act like it was anything more then what it was...A stay busy fight...PERIOD!!!...DLH acted as though the Forbes bout was supposed to be taken seriously as a fight that mattered....In FACT Cotto had a look on his face the whole Gomez bout that told everyone exactly what he thought of the fight...he looked bored...almost annoyed....
Who said anything about another bout with Floyd and Cotto being Gimme fights?...You did not even read what I wrote right you just imagined that....DLH is not looking to fight Cotto I promise that...He is only fightiong PBF again because he thinks last time he was shorted by the judges...Truth is that fight being so close was more of Floyd not having that good of a night rather then Oscar performing that well....
DLH has lost to EVERY elite fighter in thier prime he has ever faced....Floyd/Hopkins/Mosley/Trinidad each on top of their game when DLH faced them and each one beat him...The trinidad bout was the closest...In the Mosley rematch he performed worse the the first fight
Sure DLH deserfves to be a HOF fighter that is a stupid question to even ask...Unlike you I do not judge fighters legacy and where they deserve to be in history because I like or dislike them....I can't stand Mayweather but that does not take away from how good he is....
And give it a rest with the whole...
"let's just not focus on Forbes. Also, who else gives free fights and makes them accessible like ODLH just did this weekend?"...
You sound like pathetic school girl with a crush on the star quarterback...DLH made money off the night he did not go away with out a profit...So there goes the admirable part of that horse shit...
Dana White and the UFC do more free shows and make zero actually they lose money on some cards....
I don't see Oscar giving free fight cards to any of our fighting troops...People who really deserve it.....
There were a hell of a lot of empty seats in the arena Saturday night so there was not that much given away was ther

No one can care less if he trains in the basement of the YMCA or in the most lavish Gym available....OSCAR IS THE ONE WHO MADE SURE THAT HE MENTIONED THE "OLD DAYS " ON TYV AND WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO MAKE SURE THAT THE GYM WAS SHOWN IN THE 24/7 SERIES.....That is no one else fault but Oscars...Please explain what need was there to put extra focus on that?...what did it have to do with anything?...
It didn't.....Think before you post...Your starting to look as stupid as he does

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
I like ODLH hes is the man. Hes the guy everyone wants to fight, Big fight with Oscar is Big money. Its no wonder why all the fighters say "I want Oscar" because win or lose at the end of the day its a nice works paycheck..

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
Oscar De La Hoya is one of my favourite fighters of all time. I can't think of anybody in the last 15 years that has fought absolutely everybody that they should have, i.e Trinidad, Quartey, Whitaker, Vargas, Mosely, Hopkins, PBF. Look at the opposition of Hopkins or RJJ compared to ODLH, they guy never took an easy route and I rspect that

That can ot be denied...I stated myself his resume is fantastic...The best the sport has seen in the last 50 years...Point is though his actions lately have made him a bit of an ass....5 years ago...Make that even a year ago I was a big DLH fan and I respect all he has accomplished in the sport but he has become the opposite of what he used to be.......
It just amazes me how some peole actually think he walks on water...If DLH want to take an easy fight I have no problems with that...If he wanted a fight to get himself back in the swing of things etc I have no problem with that but when a guy like that who has had the kind of career he has starts trying to make things out to be something they are not...I have a problem with that.....
I have had the same criticizm to other fighter in the past who are great...
I blasted RJJ years ago when he faced part time fighter Richard Frazier and acted as if it was the greatest win in his career when the fight was over...At the time he was staying away from Calzaghe and Dariusz like the had small pox....Nothing to be proud of when you are the P4P #1 fighter in the world and you beat up a part time fighter with a less then admirable resume then act as though you just went in and bveat a prime Archie Moore.....To accept things like that or pretend the fights are more then what they actually were is IMO putting a black eye on the sport...
I have no problems with the fights and I understand having to build up the fights before they take place to sell tickest but after the fight is over don't piss in a cup and tell us all you made lemonade

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
Oscars prime is years in the past, he was exeptional in his prime, one of the very best ever in my opinion, he fought everyone!!
I don't hate him one bit but his fighting days are over. He won't beat Floyd in the rematch but in his prime I think he would kick Floyds fucking head in.

The versions of DLH that fough Quartey and Trinidada would have KO'd Floyd without a doubt IMO...That was a top notch version of Oscar and a version of Oscar that leaning on the ropes and trying to counter all night would have gotten PBF lumped up like a ripe melon

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
My feelings about ODLH have cycled over the years. When he was coming up, I got annoyed with his over exposer and an image that I considered a bit contrived. I didn't like the fact that he beat Whitaker and Chavez on the back 9 of their careers. I respected his talent, but he was I guy that rooted against. I guess I like seeing people up on a pedestal fall.
They came the Tito fight. I was rooting for Tito, but I was blown away by the clinic he put on that night. I didn't like that he punked out and ran at the end, but I thought he got robbed that night. . Somehow that made him a more sympathetic character for me. I've rooted for him in every fight since then, except for the Mosley fights. Then after the loss he goes right out and makes dangerous fight with Mosley. I liked the way he could come back after a loss, put it behind him, and move forward. I like the fact that he takes on all comers and has ducked nobody.
Now, I've kind of turned on him again. Sure, I'll be rooting for him against Floyd, but I'm just tired of his act. I'm tired of his marketing. I'm tired of him still being the face of boxing to the general public. I don't hate him. I just want him to go away.

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
Daxx,
Relax a little. We disagree but you don't see me insulting you and all that, do you? Others disagree with me too and you don't see them making all kinds of drama. Relax a little bud. It's ok.
The fighters you mentioned were as commited already to fight someone else. That's just how it is.
Quote:
You are going to try and tell me a fight with Forbes a guy who struggled to make weight on the contender and has never fought above 140 and Oscar had to have a catch weight of 150 due to those reasons was an obvious or should I say logical opponent?
You think loosing that much weight to fight Forbes was easy? Even here in the forum people were like "What is Oscar doing?! That is not good for him!" Gomez, ranked or not, wasn't necessay a threat to Cotto, was he? To the same level as a big name out there. I don't remember saying that Forbes was a top opponent, nope, he was far from that in my opinion. But so is Gomez.
Quote:
Sell the fight...Someone in the game as long as Oscar has been and someone who has had as many titles as Oscar has should not be going out of their way to SELL a fight
Why not? Specially against a guy who people are unfamiliar with. Gotta creat interest in people so saying that he is just a stepping stone obviously won't sell, would it? Plus, he made it free and accessible for the fans. A nice gesture from him that I am yet to see from another big name out there.
Quote:
DLH acted as though the Forbes bout was supposed to be taken seriously as a fight that mattered
From the start of ODLH career he has not looked down on any opponent or talked trash. He is a gentleman and up to today haven't seen him say that an opponent would be piece of cake. If he said that Forbes was just a tune up, stepping stone, and knowing how many people around here hate him you can bet all you want that people would be complaining about him saying something that. So ODLH can't do anything, people still complain.
Quote:
Who said anything about another bout with Floyd and Cotto being Gimme fights?
Cool, then we can agree Oscar looks for good challenges out there. Had a fight with Forbes just like Cotto did against Gomez and look what comes next, bigger fights.
Quote:
Truth is that fight being so close was more of Floyd not having that good of a night rather then Oscar performing that well...
See? If Oscar wins or gets a questionable decision it's not because Oscar is good but because "it was not the other fighter's night" *sigh*. Oscar can't just win, can he?
Quote:
DLH has lost to EVERY elite fighter in thier prime he has ever faced....Floyd/Hopkins/Mosley/Trinidad
Do you really think he lost convincingly against Trinidad, Mosley II, and Floyd (one point from a draw according to the judges and a questionable SPLIT decision by many boxing experts). I won't argue the first Mosley and Hopkins fight.
Quote:
Sure DLH deserfves to be a HOF fighter that is a stupid question to even ask...
I ask that question because of how much people hate him that I wouldn't be surprise if people say he doesn't deserve it, well, just because he's ODLH.
Quote:
Unlike you I do not judge fighters legacy and where they deserve to be in history because I like or dislike them...
Unlike me? I already admitted he didn't look as great as I expected this weekend among other things. I mean, you went as far as talking about the gym he uses to train and even him as a promoter. I wouldn't be surprise if other people complain about his lifestyle.
Quote:
I can't stand Mayweather but that does not take away from how good he is....
Same here! Want to see him loose badly but I recognize his talent and see it hard for him to loose against ANYBODY out there at the moment. So far only Castillo and ODLH have given him the BIGGEST CHALLENGE YET. Everybody else gets dominated and even before facing him end up loosing against a lesser opponent in their preparation to face Mayweather.
Quote:
You sound like pathetic school girl with a crush on the star quarterback...
Wow! Getting a bit too upset here, eh? Calm down a little, I am not calling you this and that, am I? You are the one who went as far as talking about if he trained or not in a nice gym, not me. I had to mention that to see if at least you admitted Oscar doing something POSITIVE instead of complaining even about the gym he uses to train.
Quote:
DLH made money off the night he did not go away with out a profit...So there goes the admirable part of that horse shit...
Hhhhmmm someone with a big name such as ODLH televising his fight FOR FREE, making tickets accessible for the fans, etc. Something you see everyday from BIG NAMES, right? I am mentioning this to show you he is not AS BAD as people want to make him look
Quote:
Dana White and the UFC do more free shows and make zero actually they lose money on some cards....
Ghandi did great things too but let's go back to boxing. I would like to know if another big name the same level as ODLH has done the same.
Quote:
I don't see Oscar giving free fight cards to any of our fighting troops...People who really deserve it...
We don't see Cotto or Floyd doing the same, do we? Or planning to do so.
Quote:
There were a hell of a lot of empty seats in the arena Saturday night so there was not that much given away was ther
24,000 tickets sold out for the event (27,000 capacity) and more tickets sold on the day of the fight. Hhhhmmmm do you think Cotto vs Gomez could sell at least half of the stadium? Do you think Mayweather against Forbes would sell? Fans even left the half-filled arena during a fight where Larry Merchant mentioned that and pissed Floyd off. Oscar can sell a fight more than anybody even if you and I challenged him ;) .

Yes...
I like him and think good to luck to him in all he does , but yeah, that one^.

The fighters you mentioned were as commited already to fight someone else. That's just how it is.

Cool, then we can agree Oscar looks for good challenges out there. Had a fight with Forbes just like Cotto did against Gomez and look what comes next, bigger fights.
See? If Oscar wins or gets a questionable decision it's not because Oscar is good but because "it was not the other fighter's night" *sigh*. Oscar can't just win, can he?
Do you really think he lost convincingly against Trinidad, Mosley II, and Floyd (one point from a draw according to the judges and a questionable SPLIT decision by many boxing experts). I won't argue the first Mosley and Hopkins fight.
I ask that question because of how much people hate him that I wouldn't be surprise if people say he doesn't deserve it, well, just because he's ODLH.
Unlike me? I already admitted he didn't look as great as I expected this weekend among other things. I mean, you went as far as talking about the gym he uses to train and even him as a promoter. I wouldn't be surprise if other people complain about his lifestyle.
Hhhhmmm someone with a big name such as ODLH televising his fight FOR FREE, making tickets accessible for the fans, etc. Something you see everyday from BIG NAMES, right? I am mentioning this to show you he is not AS BAD as people want to make him look
Ghandi did great things too but let's go back to boxing. I would like to know if another big name the same level as ODLH has done the same.

It is nothing personal but when you start taking things and turn them into something I never said I start to wonder what the hell your reading...You leave me 1 of 2 choices...Either
1. you work for GBP or 2. You and Oscar went to High School together :-\
Look at my other post in the htread not just the ones me and you argued on....I give him all the credit in the world for his accomplishments but IMO he is just trying to hang onto his former glory....Yes he sells seats no matter who he fights but Selling seats does not make the opponent one he did not hand pick...
Saying Cotto or Floyd are not giving free fights does not exactly go into the same catagory as DLH because DLH has the biggest Promo company in the sport...Cotto is promotred...Oscar the promoter....And I said that because you tried to make the fact fact he gave away some cheap ass $25 seats away like he was rebuilding after Katrina in Louisiana

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
He took a dive against Hopkins.
He is a cross dresser as pointed out above.
He recieves gift decisions. Again as pointed out.
He holds up relevant fights, when he himself is as relevant as Vargas/Mayorga.
he has held that stupid green belt when he fights once every 3 years
He has never fought Winky Wright.
He now owns The Ring magazine which gives us further suspicion that he will invade further with fake drama.
he was dressed nicer than cutmemick whenever they took a picture together before a homo-erotic evening.
These are all very valid reasons why he isn't very many peoples favorite fighter.

As much as I like Oscar, I have my doubts about that one too. Sure, the punch looked right on target but I am not so sure about his reaction. But then again, why would he take a dive? I don't see how that would benefit him.

If those pictures were really him, is it really our business to see what he does in private? Look at the girl he was with, I am sure many guys wouldn't mind wearing a tutu just to be with a girl like her! Girl looked quite sexy and in great shape.

As well as gift decisions to his opponent: Trinidad, Mosley II, among others.

I would agree with you if I saw Hopkins win the last fight just because he was under GBP. But nope, he lost fair square. Besides, we see bad decisions all the time only that ODLH is not involved so people find those bad decisions ok.

Also, because he has beaten many fighters who are fan favorites, look at his resume. I didn't like him beating JC Chavez and Rafael Ruelas among others on his list!:-\

Re: Why the hatred against ODLH?
2 reasons for hatred against Oscar:
1. Money
2. Power
He can make the fights "he" wants, and he will get his way, regardless of what the boxing public wants. It's the same reason why we don't have a unified Heavyweight champ, but It's Don King in that division. Others are more worthy at a shot at Floyd, who IS THE P4P CHAMP, but because Oscar wants, he gets, because of the 2 reasons stated above.
