More classic match-making from Frank Warren. I think everyone is starting to get bored of it. My mum might still get excited at him knocking out another bum. Gomez isn't as bad as some of them, but he is well past his best. He'll win inside 2 rounds. Definately not a very good warm up fight for his world title challenge. He's going to have to leave frank warren if he hopes to be a genuine world champion by the years end.
An old shot crazy superfeather to Nate Campbell? No chance.
Unless Khan's mob give Frank Warren the spanish archer he wont be in with any "world" champs anytime soon.
Gomez has about six rounds in him if he lasts that long, which is unlikely. I fail to see how Frank can be blamed for making this fight. The lightweight situation is going to take a while to shake out due to the fighters and politics being really complicated right now, so Khan making money and keeping busy is a good thing to do.
So is this Gomez any good? Personally I've never heard of him, which leads me to believe he isn't quite up there in the world rankings. I've been told he's an ex-british champion, but Khan should definately be aiming to fight ex-world champions (correct me if i'm wrong, Gomez may have been a world champion??? haven't really looked into him) if he wants a good idea of what he's getting himself into.
Out of the 2 :shakehead: WBO lightweight champs casamayor has a fight coming up in september which pretty much leaves campbell free for an end of year pop at amir if he wishes too.
Wouldnt be surprised to see this go down, warren doesnt have the ability to sell a fight to an american audience, campbell will travel to bolton take his beating head on and hopefully retire with a bit of grace.
Amir gets his record as the youngest british world champion, warren gets another world champ in his stable, campbell gets that one last decent payday to retire with.
whats to be surprised at here??
Gomez biggest claim to fame is that he blew away Alex Arthur in 5 rounds, it was a competative fight and a joy to watch. However Gomez has never achieved those heights again and lost his last big fight against Johannessen who has recently lost to Kevin Mitchell. It will be exciting for a couple of rounds and Gomez will come in motivated but should not be a competitive fight if Khan is serious about becoming a world champion.
I'm think if Gomez comes into this fight well prepared and no bullshit out of the ring gets in the way, he should do alot better than some think. He most likely will get outboxed, but he has a decent chin and good offense, so it should be a good fight to watch. I give Gomez a shot at least.
Ill tell you what, this Geez can hit a lot harder than Limond and if he can shit Khan up early, you never no. But its unlikely, Im backing Khan by stoppage here, but Gomez is a hard bastard and will bring the fight.
I like when Gomez said: "I'm going to be in his face before the first round begins."
I interpret that as when the ref says touch 'em up Gomez gives Khan a full force uppercut.
;D
Gomes will come to fight but will slow down very fast and Khan should stop him in 4.Khan will have to be sensible in first round cause Gomez can punch.
theres your fight summed up completely.
As long as khan doesnt make the mistake of trying to fight gomez on the inside early on he should wear him down through the middle period of the fight and eventually outwork, outbox and completely dominate an ageing gomez.
But ive not seen khan fight on the outside early on in a contest once yet and if he does attempt to make gomez an easy nights work he`ll get hit with more than he has ever been hit with before.
I remember pundits claiming a certain ricky hatton would have no problems beating jon thaxton in 2001 when they fought, look what a war that turned out to be all because thaxton got his tactics in the early stage of the fight spot on and forced the better boxer to fight his fight!
Gomez is shot. Con will win easy
That's all great IF Khan wins. What if he loses? He has plenty of time to be a "world" champ.
Anyway his path will be determined by his future involvement with FW.
And considering they've put the Rees-Khan feeler out there, i'm sure that's not too far off ;)
Strange choice of opponent. Gomez is quite dangerous. Quite a big puncher aswell.
Hmm not sure what Kahn gets from winning this. I'd expect him to win quite comfortably but it's a strange one....
Very odd
People often reitirate "it depends which Michael Gomez shows up."
Well both Gomez's are crazy and both will get beat by Kahn
Don't see the campbell - khan fight happening this year. Warren has never been too eager to put his fighters in too deep (check out Calzaghe's record and Hatton's when Frank had him for proof of Warrens eagerness to avoid dangerous fights)
Warrens a great promoter for his fighters but exasperating if you are a fan waiting for a decent 50/50 match up...
I will watch the fight only cause there aint no other boxing on telly. This is a total disgrace and an outrage to the real boxing fan. Michael Gomez aka Michael Armstrong has as much chance of beating Khan has my Grandma and shes been dead 10 year.
I can believe that Warren will again throw some no mark to Khan and make Khan look like a monster but the real fans know that as soon as Khan fights anyone close to a Campbell he will look very foolish and get knocked out and hopefully disappear for good.
Job Biscuit (Hope the under card is good if anything)!!!!
eh eh!!!
The only problem with that is at this point, Nate Campbell will give Amir Khan the beating of his life. Who the heck has Khan ever beaten to make you think he belongs in the ring with Nate Campbell? I have nothing against Khan, but if this fight ever comes off, you contact me about a sig bet. Let Khan fight some better oppostion and develop into a complete fighter first. Khan may be a great fighter someday, at this point he's not ready for Campbell.
I have to agree with this. He is still being brought along and I don't expect him to be fighting at the top of his class just yet.
I think matching with Gomez is a smart move, although obviously not what the fans want to see. Let's see how it goes, then after that we can start crying foul if he is still fighting the leftovers of others.
I have just check the under card fights....and they asre gash....might go out

This fight should have been 5 fights ago for me. Khans level of competition really varies from half decent fighers to people who are not up to it or past their best. I think if he wants to be facing for a title by the end of the year he should be facing european level fighters now. I was hoping this next fight would be against Romanov, even if he's not world class a european title would of exposed Khan to a wider varity of higher class fighters. Jumping from Gomez to the likes of Campbell will do nothing for him. Fighters who take shortcuts to world titles aren't gonna stay champions for long.
Nothing against Gomez but he's past his best now and Khans career is being pushed in the wrong direction by facing him. Bring on some tough fights.
..Also looking at that line up it's a shame to see Paul Smith in such a naf fight. I don't know if he was confidence issues or something but he's much better than the level of opponents he's facing. He needs to speed up his career or is going to miss his chance as he's a half decent figher when he's on it... which isn't always the case.
ohhhh nice matchup Gomez aint the fighter he was but his punch power could be a big factor in this if he is on form and can connect Khan wont know what will have hit him after facing all the light punchers.
i do think Gomez will get into Khans head who might just fall into the build up plan of Gomez.
look forward to this one bigtime could be a corker ;)
No complaints from me
Got a feeling Gomez will do an Earl to be honest. I hope not though. He has clearly lost his way abit, and after the Johanneson fight he was a mess and was goin mad at Mickey Vann for stopping the bout. His corner wasn't happy either.
"Mickey Vanns a bent bastard" i seemed to remember the words being!
The slick boxer vs. The big puncher....
This is 50/50 for me as Khans chin will def. be tested here.
Johanssen passed the test, will Khan pass it?
I'm gonna go with Khan by TKO.
I really Khan't see any other ending to this than a tko win for Khan within 4 rounds.
I'd be very suprised if he had a title shot after Amir few title defences against weak opposition :p
OK lets be realistic and make it 90/10 ;D
Gomez is light-years past his best, his best being Brit level superfeather, and he has a couple of rounds at the most to land a lucky punch. They wouldn't let that nutter anywhere near Khan if they gave him a sniff.
Lets keep our fingers crossed the crazy bastard lands one though. ;D
