Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
Thursday, May 22 2008
Joe Calzaghe's father/trainer Enzo Calzaghe has lashed out at Jack Loew, trainer of WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik. Enzo who also trains Pavlik's June 7 challenger Gary Lockett, takes offense in Loew's statement that maybe Enzo can teach Lockett to slap like a girl - just like his son Joe. "Loew had better hope and pray that Lockett doesn't slap like Joe because if he does it's going to be goodnight for Kelly Pavlik," said Enzo. "...I have not seen anything from Kelly Pavlik whatsoever that worries me. He's a good fighter but he's mechanical, it's the same thing, same thing, same thing all the time. I can't get worried about it....he's never heard of Gary Lockett, never seen him fight, but Lockett knows all about Kelly Pavlik, and he is in for a surprise on June 7. His team opened their mouths and talked the talk, but can they walk the walk?" Pavlik and Lockett meet June 7th at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
---------------------------
Good night Kelly? Has Enzo seen a Pavlik fight? Super Mario better shut his mouth or Kelly just may move up a bust his son's mouth open.
:owned:
People can say what they want about a Kelly Joe matchup. Joe has never felt power like Kelly... I dont care if he's fought at 170. Hopkins does not have Pavlik's heavy hands or workrate... If a 43 yr old Hopkins (although still a good fighter) is the best thatJoe C has on his resume, I'd tell my father to quiet down before he gets joe KTFO!
-
Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
Pavlik is going to make and example of lockett. I almost feel sorry for him.
-
Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
I can't say anything about Locket as to be honest I've never even heard of him but what I do know is that Enzo lately has been writing checks with his mouth that none of his fighters but Joe have been able to cash and Locket will be the next victim... Enzo should humble himself a bit cuz his gravey train with Joe will end soon aswell
-
Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
Bit harsh boys. Kelly's trainer disses Joe that's ok ...Enzo disses pavlik he's a dick?
What's he gonna say "Oh this is just a paycheck for Lockett...weve been training not to get sparked out in 2 rounds"?

Nah it's not a bit harsh it's the truth. Look Leow said Joe slaps and he does... Enzo says that Joe could put Pavlik to sleep?
Stop it! I didn't sya he was a dick I said that his mouth has been moving but no one's been backing it up. Mac, Gavin and soon to be Locket, he doesn't have much to cheer about...
What I'm saying is be careful what you wish for or he just might get it... Or Joe might I should say:owned:

Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
Pavlik is mechanical. He is lucky he carries power at 160 because that is the only thing he is exceptional at there. Arum knows Pavlik is mediocre and that's why he is fighting a tomato can :-X
I have disliked the whole Pavlik crew after he robbed Jermain Taylor in the rematch. I'm also sick of seeing videos of pavlik hitting heavy bags with baseball bats or tires with sledgehammers. This kind of training is why he is so mechanical...plod, plod, plod until hopefully you can load up and connect with one big shot. Pavlik will not be around for long. Once he moves up in weight he is done.

I'm not Enzo's biggest fan but how do you think he should respond to someone calling his son a girl?
He didn't say Joe would put Pavlik to sleep (although he probably thinks it ;D) he said they better hope "Lockett doesn't slap like Joe or it's goodnight".. He thinks his son would beat Pavlik so it's silly to compare Lockett with Joe considering he (Joe) is in a different stratosphere.
PLUS.. they are not just selling Pavlik-Lockett but possibly Pavlik-Calzaghe.. so it's all good ;)

All you need to know about Lockett is he gets caught with right hands at will which means disaster for him end of.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that Taylor took the rematch, I wouldn't say he was robbed though. It was a close fight.

Not harsh at all , Enzo didnt give any credit wot so ever to David Haye , he claimed Enzo Mac beat himself ? WTF.
I agree with Mike , his gravy train ( Joe ) will soon be retired so hes running his mouth off , to make a name for himself.
Fact is Enzo is a dickhead.
As for Gary Lockett i wish him all the best , hes a good honest pro , who is a good bloke , i do think he will get knocked out , and i dont think he should be number 1 contender , but one thing for sure is he will give it his all and you cant ask for more than that.

Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
Taylor robbed against Pavlik ?? lol good one bro you surely must be kidding with that comment ?? Taylor landed less punches in the rematch than he did in the first fight which only went 7 rounds. But forgetting that Taylor only fought in spurts which is fine in some cases but not in this case when Pavlik is working entire 3 minutes of the round landing solid punches. Pavlik clearly won the last 2 rounds which erased any doubt in my mind, i'll admit it was close after 10 rounds but after that Pavlik clearly won last 2 rounds to pull out the victory 7-5 on my card, which means by your scoring you had Taylor ahead by at least 3 rounds or more after 10 rounds what the hell ??

I don't think Taylor got robbed, but I do think a case could be made for him winning the fight. I've only seen the fight once, but I remember Taylor landing the cleaner, harder punches and Pavlik looking very sloppy and missing with most of his shots. I thought that Taylor's aggression was much more effective, aside from that body shot in the 11th, I don't recall Pavlik landing anything that was really significant.
-
Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
Taylor fought a great fight but just got out boxed. Something they said Kelly couldn't do. As far as Enzio, Pavlik and his team can walk the walk. Lowe is as firey as they come and believes in & looks at Kelly almost like a son. He doesn't respect Lockett as a fighter but does as a person. The more noise he makes outside the ring the more Pavlik can focus inside the ring. Jack is playing the game just hoping & trying to piss Enzio off enough to lure his son into a mega fight.
-
Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
To me it just sounds like any other trainer in the build up to a fight. After all, as some other guy mentioned, they're not training to see if they can survive the first half of the fight, in his head, I'm sure Enzo thinks Lockett has a chance. He'll have put a plan in place, and think it'll work, but I think he's going to be looking for miracles for Lockett to win.
I wonder what the odds are of Pavlik breaking both hands in the same fight?

I don't think Taylor landed the harder shots i think he landed the cleaner more flashier punches but i thought, overall Pavlik landed the harder shots and he was more consistent. It may of not been as pretty as Taylor's combinations, but it was getting the job done and Pavlik was working 3 minutes of every round, i can see a case for Taylor winning but IMO. I think any doubt should have been erased in the last 2 rounds.

Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
To be fair there are a lot of guys for whom it would be a lot more ridiculous to call mechanical than Kelly. Not sure that sentence made sense. Either way.
-
Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
I agree with the "mechanical" statement 100%
jab,jab,right. jab,jab,right.
Pavlik is just one of Wladimir Klitschko's animated turds.

You certainly are Pavlik hater brother but i have to admit that last statement made me laugh my ass off ;D

Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
I don't dislike Pavlik at all, I'm a fan actually but he is a bit mechanical/predictable.
He beat Taylor though ;D
-
Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
Someone should tell Enzo that Lockett isn't very good. And Calzaghe isn't knocking anyone out, though I do think he'd beat Pavlik. And as has been said, Pavlik is rather mechanical. Lots of good fighters are though.

Im in the same boat there. Pavliks power and output makes him interesting to watch. Seems like a likeable fellow but is a tad formulaic.
Calzaghe loves come forward fighters and beating Pavlik would be easier than beating Kessler IMO.
And then a perfect time to call time on it all....

Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
I think Enzo is right when he says that Pavlik is mechanical.
Thats not to say that Lockett has a chance because a tank is mechanical and they are hard to stop if you dont have the right wepons, and Lockett does not have the right wepons to beat Pavlik.

So, to stretch this metaphor much further than it really should be stretched.... which fighter has the equivalent armory of those sticky bombs that you throw in the tank's caterpillar tracks?

Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
fine pavlik is mechanical....still gonna win though.
-
Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
Tinz 06 is absolutely right pavliks trainer disses joe to no end but when enzo does it to pavlik people start hating.
in my opinion enzo's right he is mechanical he only knows how to go forward and throw straights ok against gary lockett pavlik will take him out but lockett or is stable aint going to admitt it.
When you start putting joe in with with pavlikk say the only thing he can do is slap but watch his old fights like eubanks for example put him down with a short sharp left hand and byronn mitchell tko'd him with a barrage of accurate powerful shots i'm not trying to say as powerful as pavlik but he's not a weakling. pavliks wins over jermaine were good fights especially the first fight but even in that fight jermaine showed what happens when pavlik loses control of a fight he starts walking backwards loses timing and drops his hands and lets all be honest jermaine is any thing but a fundemetaly sound where as i think joe is fundemetally sound(although he likes to get cocky dropping hands) but also changes style i.e bernard fight mikkel fight.

Yeah, Pavlik is mechanical and he basically does one thing, but he does that one thing so well that it doesn't matter. Winky Wright is mechanical and only does one thing.
You are wrong that only his power is exceptional. His jab is great and what he lacks in speed with the jab he makes up for in times. He is relaxed and poised in the ring. He has good power, but he's special because once his gets his man stunned, he is a great finisher. If Jermaine was a poised finisher like Kelly, Kelly would have been KTFO in the first fight.

Is it such a stretch to think that Joe is 37 years old and while winning his last fight, looked far from spectacular?

Not necessarily but I'm so sick of the fact that people think Joe is unbeatable... You think Pavlik wouldn't check that chin?
Look, I like pavlik and I'm a nut hugger and although I hate Joe's style it's tough to argue he's not one of the top 4 or five fighters in the world... I'm not a Joe hater either but I think even Joe would think twice before he stepped into the ring with Kelly...
Joe knew what he was getting into when he stepped into the ring with Hopkins. He knew it would be ugly and that the pace would be slowed.
We all talk about Joe's workrate as it is pretty amazing... The Lacy fight pretty much blew my mind... He looked fresh in the tenth... But how many people has Joe faced that can almost match his workrate and WILL land the harder blows.
I'm just saying that I think Kelly will surprise you if they fight... Joe may come out on top but he'll be in there for the fight of his life!
I see the fight going one of two ways.. A razor thin split dec for Joe
Or a KO late for Kelly...
That's it... Joe is good but the clocks ticking and even the mighty Joe Calzaghe can't make time stand still...
Hope this helps

Agreed Calzaghe looked very beatable against Hopkins its just Hopkins couldn't keep up the pace.

Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
anyone who knows enzo knows he's full of praise for himself........ he's got this thing were he thinks he's the best......... you just have to watch him on the pads with his son and you'll see he truley beleaves its all about him..... the way he was going on in the corner in the hopkins fight was embaracing, you feel he was trying to showcase himself in vegas as a true boxing brain at work........... he's real arrogant and to many people unbearable now
i hope lockett does well, but with enzo singing in his ear i feel once theres a big wave hes goner sink............ still would be great to see him win

Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
"Jack Loew, trainer of WBC/WBO middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik is challenging trainer Enzo Calzaghe to put his money where his mouth is. Loew says if Enzo is so confident about Gary Lockett being able to beat Pavlik on June 7 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, he should follow through with placing a wager on the fight. In their recent war of words, Enzo told Loew “If he’s so confident in his fighter, then why doesn’t he put his house on Pavlik winning?" Now Loew is ready to take him to task by accepting the offer.
“Whatever he wants to bet on the Lockett fight, I will bet him,” Loew told The Vindicator. “Anything. It’s legal in Atlantic City. I want his money.”
The bad blood began when Loew took a triple-shot when making a comment about Enzo's training of Lockett.
“Maybe Enzo can teach Lockett to slap like a girl — just like Joe (Calzaghe),” Lockett said.
Enzo came out swinging with a press release in response.
“I had to go on the Internet because I’d never even heard of this person Jack Loew,” Enzo said. “And all I found was that he paves driveways. Well, once Lockett has dealt with Pavlik and Loew is out of boxing then at least he can go back to paving driveways. I’ve got no one to answer to. I’ve trained four world champions, I’ve got other champions in my gym. I won trainer of the year in America for 2007.”
Loew told the Vindicator that the only reason anyone has heard of Enzo is because of his son, WBC/WBO/WBA super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe. He is not impressed with Enzo's other fighters.
“His last champ, Enzo Maccarinelli, was knocked out by David Haye,” Loew said. “Gavin Rees lost his welterweight title when he was knocked out in the 12th round. What the [heck] is he talking about?”
Loew is not impressed with his son, Joe Calzaghe, either. He very open to matching Pavlik against Joe Calzaghe in the near future.
“He’s knocked out 32 opponents, but 32 what, though?” Loew said. “The only thing he’s done is expose Jeff Lacy, which would have happened anyway. As far as Bernard Hopkins, he was a 43-year-old man. This guy is attacking me and he’s got nothing on his plate. If Manny Steward did it, it’s different. He’s trained 100 world champions. This guy has three and two just got knocked out. We’re willing to move up to super middleweight. It might be next year, it might be in October. Who knows? It might be our next fight. We’re open to anything."

Re: Enzo: Pavlik is mechanical!
Honestly, this is a good matchup... Kelly has a naturally big frame... Wonder what 8lbs would do to his output, though. Anyhow, If Pavlic can keep the output and stamina up this would be Joe's toughest test to date IMO... Enzo won't bet Leow a dime cuz the fight's already lost.
Keep talking Enzo...
Be careful what you wish for... You just might get it... and IT just may be a right hand a tad harder then the one that knocked your son on his ass against Hopkins.

Pavlik is skinny so 8lbs shouldn't effect him in fact he might be even stronger with a little extra weight.

As true as that may be, it's not always the case... I was a skinny 152lb amatuer but when I moved up only a few ponds I was unable to do the same things I was used to... I lost a noticable amount of speed with only about 5 lbs added on...
Everybodies body is different:cool:
