Been looking at pictures from the promotional tour....
Since I saw last weeks pics. from Mexico I couldn't help it but notice how heavy he looked. He must be somewhere around 165-170 at least.
Anyone else see this or is it just me?

He just looks a bit heavier then usual, I've seen him in between fights and he doesn't look this big. Could it be that the plan for July is to try and out-muscle/bully Cotto?
I think it's just the pics because he looked chubby in the MAY 22 one(the suits) but not so much in the May 19 pic(the other one).
I don't think that's the plan. Tony has said he expects Cotto to box and he will cut the ring, pressure him and beat his own record for most punches thrown.
"I don't really expect Cotto to come forward in this fight. He's going to box. He's going to run. But, if he decided to stand up and fight against me, it's going to be a long night for him. The plan is always to pressure, that's my style of fight. The plan is to fight an intelligent fight. My plan is to break my record and to throw the most punches I have every thrown in a fight. Expect a war. Expect a war and expect me to come down with that title, Margarito said.
Umm not sure could be just the picture but compare it to this picture when Margarito is in perfect fighting shape.

Trust me it's not just the pictures.
I've seen him as I'm sure so have you guys in between fights. I've also seen him in person. He is a little heavy, how heavy he is my guess is 170-175 lbs. somewhere around there. I know the fights until July but I guess it's just that I haven't seen Margarito like this in between fights before.
Could be a lot of things like you said it could be a plan to out hustle and bully Cotto, but i personally don't think he needs to do that, because he is already physically stronger than Cotto IMO. If he is doing that then he has to be careful because that will lead him to being slower all over. And he already has slow feet and mediocre hand speed, and he is putting himself a risk to Cotto's superior boxing skills.
I was thinking that as well seeing the pic's on fightnews. His Just looked Beefy. He'll shed excess and be primed for the opening bell .Cotto needs to be refitted for his Jackets/Suits,Sleeves just hanging there over his hand almost.
Everyone is giving Margarito too much of a shot in this fight, imo. Cotto will outbox him handily.
I just think personally that Margarito is the most dangerous opponent Cotto has ever fought IMO. Margarito is very big physically for Welterweight as well so it will be interesting. Boxing skills wise theres no contest Cotto is by far the superior boxer but i feel Margarito will have his moments when Cotto is against the ropes, where Margarito does some of his best work. Plus Margarito has good uppercut which is Cotto's biggest weakness. I think Cotto wins a tough UD Cotto's hooks are much shorter than Margarito's so he will be able to win exchanges then get back out of there and stick to his boxing.
And when exactly has Margarito been in the ring with a fighter that posseses Cotto's skills? Only guys who come close have made him look average, in Williams and Clottey(who would've won handily without the hand injury imo). I think Mosley and Judah were both tougher fights for Cotto than Tony will prove to be, and both of them landed good shots on Cotto to little effect, which indeed would indicate it was the weight, if you ask me. Sure it could be a grueling battle of attrition, but I think only if Cotto isn't smart enough to ensure that it isn't. I really feel he has the skills to avoid having to go to war with Tony. I'm not denying Margo is going to be hell for anyone if their gameplan is to stand toe to toe with him all night, but Cotto's ability to counter punch and fight off the back foot havve been getting better every fight.
I think Margarito can get him backing up .....And not simply because Cotto descides to put on a boxing clinic and dictate terms.I think Maragritos Volume and angel's will cause many problems for Cotto. The ring ends at some point...On the ropes.Margarito's uppercuts can find Cotto.Cotto's jab will be key,Body & head & his bodywork has Improved alot.Tony's upper cuts can find Cotto also.I can honestly see both hurt in the body And I am Picking Margarito to TKO Cotto late.
Here this is from todays press conference in New York.

Yeah, he looks a little heavy to me.
The question could also be asked when has Cotto been in the ring with someone as big, strong, durable, and active at Margarito? I'd definately give the advantage for Cotto, for the reasons you mentioned, but this is by no means a slam dunk for him and something tells me Margarito will find a way to win; though I'm by no means 100% sure Margarito will win, this is the type of fight I go back and forth on. That being said, I've gone against Cotto in his last 2 fights, and he's always proven me wrong.
Tony does kinda look old and heavy in those pix.
I don't think Cotto is going to box the whole fight like a lot of people seem to think he is going to do. Margarito is a long armed puncher Cotto can afford to go inside on him because he has the shorter punches and the faster hands. Sure he can outbox him but I've never seen Cotto on the back foot for to long except against Mosley which was only about half the fight. Also the outside is Tony's wheel house I think that's giving Tony his best shot. I know he has the ability to counterpunch and outbox Margarito but I wouldn't doubt he spends more time then expected inside just because he can afford it.
Guys I really wouldn't worry about Margarito. He has been waiting for this shot for years, I seriously doubt he is letting himself go in the face of his career defining fight. Yeah he looks older, but that is because he is no spring chicken, which is all the more reason why I think he will be right on schedule with weight....he knows how much is on the line and he has been through making weight before.
My face looks kindof puggy in a suit with a tight collared shirt. It is just kindof a perception.
And remember those pictures of Tony at weigh in are when he is gainter than a whipperwill, because he is very large at 147. And I know you all have seen him in between fights but I think you all are just getting too anxious and excited.
THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME!!! (Sorry about your car man)
Just a bit of water, my guess. Lose that in a day.
You have reason ICB , i agree , to me who get the better phisical condition ( Shape ) and comes with diverses strategies for fight that is who will win ...............;D
But about the weakness , we know that ones of Cotto , is the uppercut that sometimes put him in bad situation though , where had much improve and Margarito we know that he does not boxing technically enough...............but
What else do we can say about their Weakness..............?
Hard for me to say, I'm a recently converted Margarito fan.. He does look a little heavy but could be a few factors... If I put on 5lbs its all in my face so who knows.. Like Booze says suit and tie are probably the least flattering thing a guy can wear if he gains a minimal amount of weight...
I agree no way he is reckless and haphazzard in the face of his career defining fight and excellent opportunity.. There is no brighter stage for Tony than this..
Then again mick is right, he has met and stood next to Tony a few times so he knows how he typically looks between fights...
I think it will be fine come July;) Maybe Tony is gaining and Adding alittle more muscle for Armor against Cotto's Body work:confused:
Cotto will make combinations inside and work to the body for exhaust Margarito in the first 5 and 6 rounds , he should do that for then exchange and outbox until the end , i dont think that Cotto will outbox all the fight , Margarito is a consistence boxer , where you have the obligation to stop him.......................;)
I agree, Mick. Those pictures, especially the ones that Diane posted make him look slightly more bloated than I've ever seen him. If he is trying to come into the fight as big and as strong as possible that could backfire because the bigger he gets now, the more he will need to drain himself to make 147. This would leave him potentially weak in a career defining fight where he will already have the physical advantage anyway.
As has already been mentioned though I think he knows what he is doing. He isn't going to mess around. It's a must win fight for both fighters and I doubt they'll take any unnecessary risks in their preparation for this fight. I can't wait for this. What a barn-burner it is going to be :)
