Colin Hart of The sun is calling for Hatton to quit.
The article annoyed the hell out of me.
Thoughts?
It's from The Sun newspaper, no surprises then :D
IMO he shouldn't quit no way, he looked good last week and he has plenty left to beat Paulie, Torres etc.
I know does Hart still think Cotto, Mayweather and a prime Kosta Tszyu still fight at 140?
I think it is totlly over the top artical.
I think that is Hattons best performance since his win over KT.I would say Hatton is still the best light welter in the world by a long way so why should he quit now.
The press did not mind Big Frank Bruno having chance after chance and at his best he was only half the fight that Hatton is.
I am supprised at Colin Hart because he normaly talks sence.
I don't like how he tries to make out like Lazcano is complete shit.
When you compare him to the other threats at 140, he's actually pretty good.
It's sorta hypocritical really because he says he's on the slide big time, yet he refers to his biggest threat as 'mediocre'
If that's the case, what's the problem?
Colin Hart gets on my nerves but he's right about Hatton not being the fighter he used to be.. I think another loss is inevitable too.. but don't think he needs to retire just yet
"Compared to other light-welterweights, being hit by Lazcano is the equivalent of being assaulted by a ball of cotton wool. Yet three times he came close to dropping Hatton."
This comment made me laugh does he know anything about Lazcano ?? Lazcano has always been a solid puncher and he hits harder than majority of Jr Welterweights. None of the title holders can punch except Torres so this comment is ridiculous.
Hatton was hurt more in previous fights against Magee, Phillips, I honestly think this whole thing about Hatton almost being KO'ed is well overrated. I mean just take a look at how Hatton went back to the corner, his head was clear and his legs were fine. I think people are being way too harsh on Hatton like i've said many times, Hatton was coming off a humiliating KO loss. And to comeback against a solid opponent in front of 56000 fans i think he done very well taking all that into account.
Except for his defensive issues which he has always had what was really wrong with is performance ?? his combinations were good, his body punching was good, he showed a lot of energy in the later stages, so why all the hate ??
IMO , no , he is young yet , he can assimilate some others fights , he have to be sure and make analisys of his fight and then decide if he can continue or not , but have to be Realistic.........
Well said.I agree.
When you are a pressure fighter you tend to get hit more offten than a boxer type.
Being ranked number 7 in the world at light-welter weight is a very high rating because the light-welter weight has always had lots of top leavl fighters even if most of the press dont know there names.
IMO a very good win for The Hitman.
It's also very difficult to come back from a KO loss and look as good as the fighter who beat Kostya Tszyu etc...
Lazcano was picked to make Ricky look spectacular STOPPING him. Lazcano was coming out of retirement. His style was made for Hatton.
But Ricky ended up working his bollocks off for 12 rounds.
I heard Rickys team even blamed the "cold" in the build up for his performance.. now theres a surprise, and shows how happy they were ;)
The sun's credibility counts for absolutely nothing to me.
When i read it this morning you can see straight away it's just an absolute load of bolocks.
Poor poor article. I get the feeling he is just dissing Ricky for the sake it...You watch now next week there will be another article going on about Naasem quiting after his first loss calling him a bum and all this. And then it will praise Hatton for being a brave great champion of the people.
The sun's only good for some Tits and Good football news.
Ricky has few good fights left in him, but the clock is certainly ticking. Between his lifestyle and his fightingstyle, he ain't going to be at this until he's 35. He should have an absolute maximum of 5 fights left, and really, I would be happy if he fought Paulie, Torres, and maybe Pac, then hung them up. As fan, I don't want to see him end up getting hurt long term.
Quitting is not an option for him as for the moment. He's still has plenty of gas left in his tank. I don't think he's been through many real wars yet.
The Sun paper is shit. Colin Hart is an old cunt. But he's not the only one singing this tune
Buncey (;D) thinks Ricky is done too ;)
Boxing: Hatton rumbles on but is fat lady warming up? - Others, More Sports - The Independent
If a fight against Malignaggi was taking place 12 months ago the bookmakers would have closed the account because Hatton would have been an overwhelming favourite. Sadly, the new Hatton is just a good fighter and not any longer the outstanding, the thrilling and unmissable boxer he was in the past.
Before this artical i had the upmost respect for colin hart who has always known his stuff as far as the boxing world is concerned.
But the man is not only way way off here, he is bang out of order and im afraid this has been written just to get his paper and himself a bit of attention.
44-1 aged 29 does not warrant someone hanging up their gloves however poor you think theyre last few performances have been.
To suggest ricky has nothing left in the tank is absurd.
Colin Hart rants on about the likes of robinson, la motta etc yet those guys both got through well over a 100 fights yet now he believes 45 pro contests has taken its toll on a man who should hang up his gloves???
big time thumbs down on this one, hart has sold his soul to sell a few extra newspapers :cooldevil:
He may get past Paulie but there's no way he beats a guy like Ricardo Torres who has fast hands and throws nice combinations on stationary targets with murderous intent as evidenced by hi fight with Cotto.
Any fighter could get seriously hurt.
I don't see anything in Ricky Hatton to suggest that he's more likely to get hurt than any other fighter.
He pretty much brutalised Juan Lazcano who isn't that far behind the other titlists at 140.
I see what you're saying but i highly doubt Colin Hart wrote that article because he cares so much for Ricky Hatton.
I don't want Ricky to retire now. I get entertainment from watching him fight - win or lose i'm not bothered.
But someone that has seen 40 years of faded fighters going on too long with some suffering dire consequences, it's understandable why they would.
Is it not?
I think Claude Abrams would make a good presenter. In place of Steve Bunce.
