Haye laughs off Skelton offer

Haye laughs off Skelton offer!
Cruiserweight/heavyweight sensation David 'The Hayemaker' Haye (21-1, 20 KOs) has reacted with to promoter Frank Warren's $1.2 million offer to face Matt Skelton. "The timing of the offer was priceless," said Haye, the former WBC/WBA/WBO unified cruiserweight champion. "As Hayemaker Promotions are announcing their ethos and plans to break trends in boxing - to put on exciting, competitive and meaningful contests – Frank Warren's Sports Network offer me a fight with a washed-up 40-year-old coming off a defeat with nowhere else to go. I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw the irony in that. That aside, the offer was a derisory one anyway. We thank him for the offer, but I now know what I'm worth and can guarantee I'll make at least double Warren's figure in my next fight." Haye's next outing will take place at London's 20,000-capacity O2 Arena towards the end of the year. "It will be an exciting fight against a dangerous, top 10-ranked heavyweight," Haye promised. "Taking that into account, if you've seen Matt Skelton fight, you'll know it won't be him."

Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
That report misses that Haye gives it to Warren bigtime...
“Frank Warren...reminds me of the young girls that used to follow me around in nightclubs – only with beadier eyes, redder cheeks and deeper pockets. He should stop throwing me handouts and either donate the money to a more worthwhile charity. Hayemaker Promotions will do just fine without him. We thank Frank for Maccarinelli, but we'd feel immense guilt if we took any more free money from Sports Network. I have a hard enough time sleeping at night as it is.
“I'd rather retire from boxing than work with Sports Network again.”
“Frankly, even if Skelton was ranked, I wouldn't choose to fight him. It's not the sort of fight we're looking to put on at Hayemaker Promotions. Firstly, Skelton's coming off a defeat. Secondly, as determined as he is, Skelton's the most boring heavyweight in the world. Thirdly, his most dangerous punch combination is the double-grab, right hug.
I'd rather retire than work with Warren, says Haye
:lolhaha:

Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
Haye has managed the impossible. He's made me root for Frank Warren!
PLEASE someone knock him the fuck out and retire him from boxing in his next fight.
I hate everything about him and look forward to him suffering an early and humiliating defeat anytime soon.
Fuck David Haye
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
I like Haye, I get why people don't like him, the obnoxiousness and all that but he makes good fights, he's exciting, and some of that was reasonably funny. Plus Bilbo seems to dislike him.
And with all the junk at heavyweight....

Ain't that kind of what he's doing to Wladimir Klitschko

Exactly.
Haye is a boxing fans dream (dream being a bit OTT - i know i know :beat:).
I think Bilbo and his ilk only dislike Haye because they envy him (the non boxing side). Say it ain't so

Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
Fucken brilliant Haye!!! :drunks:
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
that is pretty funny to say the least. Warren is a class A asshole lol.
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
That is pretty good no doubt...;D..Maybe after his beard/stamina inevitably let him down at the highest levels,he can go into Stand up
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
i see daivd haye going to be the face of boxing very soon

ANYBODY WHO SLAGS OFF WARREN IS OK WITH ME.
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
haye hasn't proved squat at heavyweight and he is acting as if he is already top 10?
His ego is priceless and he deserves to be knocked off his cloud.
It would be fine if he was just slagging off Warren..its another thing to use it to boost your own ego at a weight class you've yet to prove crap at.
He knows his worth at Cruiserweight! He hasnt proven anything at heavyweight, but if he wants to step in with a top fighter at heavyweight up there more power to him, but when he gets knocked out i'll love to see him try and come back from this trash he is talking.
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
Why are you criticizing him for fighting a top 10 heavyweight and not Matt Skelton? Matt Skelton hasn't done much more in the way of world titles then Haye has.

Im critisizing him for thinking he's the bees knees at heavyweight when he hasnt proven anything up there yet

Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
Majesty is a fan of Audley Harrison......................say no more ;)
What Haye has said is entirely true, isnt it?
Ripping the piss out of Warren is always a good thing.

Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
Who exactly is this top 10 fighter they are lining up? Rahman seems set with Toney, suppose Sultan and Maskaev are available, then you have Chagaev/Valuev/Thompson/both klitchkps/Peter tied up, Povetkin won't risk his status. Most of the guys left after that aren't leaps and bounds ahead of Skelton, and after all Bonin was miraculously ranked top 10 by WBC. I just hope the unnecasary insulting of a respectful guy like Skelton is backed up by a real fight, and not this eerie feeling I'm having that he's lining up ancient Hollyfield.

Holyfield isn't in any top 10 though is he? That sure would be pretty sick, but can't see it.
Skelton is a good guy but he's ALWAYS in boring fights. The last thing Haye needs after all the hype is a terrible ugly start. Plus I doubt the Americans would be satisfied with him. And most importantly a Skelton fight would mean dealing with Warren.. which seems the farthest thing from their minds

Most of the heavyweights are ugly fighters, I think Ruiz is looking for a fight as well. He seemed to backtrack in his last statement when he said he'd be fighting someone in the top 10 of the SANCTIONING bodies, rather than a consensus top 10, which opens up the possibility of a Bonin type fight, but like you said the Americans probably wouldn't accept such an opponent.
Haye's an interesting addition to the division, and it's good that he's trying to make a noise and raise his own profile, I just don't like his tone in recent interviews and he could be setting himself for a ridicilous fall.

That's pretty much what I was gonna say, I know next to nothing about Skelton but apparently he's a mauler so I get why they don't want it but I'm not sure who he goes after.
I read somewhere (can't remember the website but I'm not making it up) that he was somewhat interested in a Toney fight. I guess the name and all that. Whether Toney's actually at the top of his list I don't know.
Maybe a Chris Arreola? I don't know I'm grasping at straws as far as trying to find an exciting heavyweight. The strange thing is I kind of like Eddie Chambers who's universally thought of as being boring as hell.

Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
The biggest laugh off will be if haye does somehow fight a top heavy......and looses. I admit i'd laugh at that for awhile. And i like haye. I just think he should ease his way in..

I like him but I wouldn't be shocked whatever happened. I mean his chin isn't the greatest and he's had some stamina issues in the past. But that's kind of the point IMO, you don't know what's going to happen, he may get knocked out, he may knock somebody out. He's at least not a slow, sluggish, 8 punch a round lazy bastard like some and he's not like (the Ibragimov brothers) some of the guys who seem singularly motivated to simply last the twelve rounds.

Agreed. Good point that is one of the things great to watch about him.

I would expect Team Haye will be looking for someone that when the "hayemaker" lands it has a marked impact.
Obviously.. some of the ugly plodders have far better chins than others.
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
I have just contacted Team Haye regarding something, I should have it in a few weeks ;)
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
The reason to go to heavyweight is to make bigger fights and to be a big deal in a rather boring weight class. He's just hyping himself up, which is what you'd expect.
But like most of you, it's hard to see who he thinks would be an interesting fight for him.
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
Skelton is fighting (Sinan Samil Sam) for the European title next month. If he were to win that one, I'd say he would be a decent first opponent at HW [after Bonin, I know].
Even if his style is all wrong for Haye, his record, including a somewhat competive fight with Chagaev, is actually pretty decent recently. Furthermore, I'd like Haye to take on the fight, _precisely_ because it just seem so wrong for him. No handpicked opponents, please!
For some reason I have a feeling Haye will end up fighting Oleg Maskaev though. Dunno why really, but somehow it just seem to make sense?
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
Haye will probably end up fighting Ruiz now.
Does Haye really think he is the savior of the heavyweight division? Being exciting is one thing but if he wants to survive at heavyweight he'd better learn something more about defense.
I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Brock or a top 15 heavyweight or something but he shouldnt be talking like he is already the best heavyweight on the planet when he hasn't proven it.

How do you decide which fighters you're gonna obsessively hate or love and go on and on and on and on about? Is there a system or is it a random thing? Its kind of a random thing with me.

1. Zab Judah or anyone who's faced Zab Judah is 10 times better then you say they are. As is Zahir Raheem.
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
Just look at the Jaime Rangel fight, and look at how well Rangel has done against guys like Timothy Bradley, Emmanuel Augustus. Just goes to show that if Zab had fought everyone else with the same focus that he had against Rangel......Pineda would have gotten fucked up Brooklyn style son.
You know I was just thinking, remember the Derrick Gainer-JMM fight and the way Gainer exposed JMM's lack of ability coming forward. That was great. So under appreciated.
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
I'm a Cotto fan, he's even in my signature but what's his excuse for not fighting Clottey?
;)

Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
True, if Floyd did that the haters would be screaming and calling him a ducker and people just want to see Floyd lose and and and and and.........
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
and Zab was hurt against Pineda and I knew Baldomir was a bad stylistic matchup for Zab.
Now I will attempt to redirect the conversation.

Did I ever tell you about that whole Augustus - Vester misunderstanding?

Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
Back on topic....David Haye is a little too confident to never have fought any top rated heavyweights.
IMO Skelton would be a good welcome to the division fight....but a little more dangerous than let's say Audley Harrison which is the level of fighter he should be gunning for.
If Haye fights anyone like Ruiz or Virchis then he's going to have some trouble
-
Re: Haye laughs off Skelton offer
must say that hes done the right thing. I mean he would just KO Skelton easy and pocket a easy nights work....fresh to see a fighter with ambition to be honest!! hope he makes movements in the heavies although i really cant even predict how well i think he will do. Its a hard one with Haye IMO.

I don't have a system. Some fighters I like some fighters I don't like any boxing fan.
I think Haye is good, but i'm not gonna pole jock on him just because he is a knockout hitter.
Just because I have an negative opinion about a certain thing the boxer does doesnt mean I'm gonna bias myself if I think he is gonna win or lose. I appreciate all fighters but when people talk up themselves before they've accomplished anything at that weight then I can not like them. Sure if he proves himself thats good. But he has a long way to go in the heavyweight division before he acts like he's calling the shots.
But there's no criteria to who and who I don't like, different strokes for different folks. I may think a boxer is good but that doesn't make me a fan. So I speak openly what I think about them. I don't mind what he said about Warren, I just mind that he acts like he calls the shots at heavyweight already when he hasn't done anything. No one else seems to want to focus on "what" i was saying as to who I was saying it about.
But did that answer your question?
