Saddonians from the USA....
Heya fellas, how goes it....
I'm debating a visit to your fine country in early september.
Financially I could probably handle it, but I don't want to strain myself when I return to the home country.:scratchchin:
So I have a few questions that I'd appreciate if you could answer.
-How much would it cost me to rent a decent car for a week over there.
I'd f'in love to drive a Hilux for a week!!! But think of something more modest!
-I know fuel isn't near as expensive in the US, estimate for a week?
-The "cost of living" if I'm kicking it for a week obviuously just seeing the sights visiting the attractions and travelling about, whats "enough?"
-Best time of year to go? October or September????

If you plan to get any where near Ontario Canada, or in the states say the Detroit area or around Michigan, heck you could stay at my house. It is a year round flop house as it is. Seriously.
Is a full day car ride to any place close though, which is a bit harsh.
This just a trip to see the place, or you considering a move? If you're thinking of moving, dude, we are Canada. You won't see a cleaner and friendlier place on the planet, bar none.

Yeah it would indeed.
Man, if the US is too expensive I'd greatly consider it.
I'm on work expierience now and would love a week to chill out.
I just want to get on some big roads and drive through places I don't now.
I was thinking Fort Myers to Tallahasse and maybe Pensacola, but who knows Canada is cool too.
This might sound dumb/childish....but is it snowy in those parts of Canada around September?

2nd vote for Detroit/Windsor. I'm on the US side- we have 3 sport arenas in the city (the Pistons are in Auburn Hills), 3 casinos and plenty of stuff up-and-coming in the summer. You could just hop on the bridge or tunnel to Windsor and it's just as great over there. So you'd be getting 2 for 1 sort of.
What the hell is a hilux?
I drive a Pontiac Grand Am and with prices what they are currently it's about $60-$70/wk to fuel up. There's an Enterprise Rent-a-Car near me I had to use when my car was in a body shop. My insurance covered it, but it was about $30/day to rent. I had a Dodge Caliber, sans options, but it was a nice drive.

You're from detroit? Pretty cool!
A Hilux is a big toyota jeep, really nice thing to drive.
Running into problem with renting a car.....you have to be 25!!!
Damn!
Re: Saddonians from the USA....
Florida isn't the best place to go in the US. I have family down there so I have go about once a year, and I find it very lame. Unless you want beaches and theme parks, avoid it. If you want beaches in Florida, the gulf coast is much better. The place is full of old people and tourists and the landscape is as boring as it gets. If you want to drive some great highway, try driving through the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western Virginia and North Carolina. Stop in and say "hi" to Lyle. If you want a more interesting trip, go to Boston, New York, Philly, or DC. A good idea would be to fly into Boston or New York, make your way down to Washinton DC and rent a car. From DC, you can head out to some really beautiful country in the south. Virginia and North Carolina are both fantastic places, and that's coming from a born and bred New Englander.
Gas is about $4.00/gallon, if you are under 25, car rental will be more expensive. A week's rental will run about $300. In major cities, lodging is a bit more - expect to play at least $100/night for basic places. The posh places will run at least $200. Down south, away from cities, you probably get rooms for about $50.
If you decide to go to Mexico, I can't recommend Playa del Carmen enough. It's one of my favorite places anywhere. You will fly into Cancun, but avoid the city and go right to Playa.
If you change your mind about going south and end up in Boston, let me know.
Re: Saddonians from the USA....
Hey Rozzy thanks for the advice.
I've got some family in Tallahasse, so I was thinking of staying there. I'd save money on accomodation and I'd be living it up like 5 stars!
Also, I'm just looking to relax, I want a pure chill out holiday.
Are you certain at 20 I can get a car? Because I can't seem to find anything to rent because of my age!
Mexico's my dream holiday and I'll be heading for the big 7 right after I finish that higher degree:work33:
I dunno, flight prices are crippling me, but I'll consider anywhere!

Re: Saddonians from the USA....
I live right outside of Tampa Florida and love it man, I"m originally from NY and couldn't be happier down here. I live about 5 minutes from the beach which is also great. There is allot of things to do down here man, plus the night life in Tampa is off the chain and the most of the woman are hot.
My girlfriend actually went to college at FSU which is in Tallahassee so I have been up there a few times. To me there really isn't to much to do up there exept drink and go to football games during the fall. The best beach closest to Tallahassee is Destin which I think is about an hour and half but the beach is really nice pure white sands plus its a tourist area so there is tons to do. The fishing in Destin is real good also.
Jacksonville is only about 2 hours from Tallahassee and I have always had fun there also. Let me know if there is any questions you have and I'll do my best to answer them.

I was in Tallahasse a number of times and in FSU alot!
I went to a few games one October and I got to check out all the football dressing rooms and FSU "Hall of fame."
I actually went there with Bob Harper and was allowed directly into Bobby Bowdens office.
Believe it or not I was also down in Destin. Gorgeous beach man! But for whatever reason there were a load of jelly fish that week!
Love the Gulf man, went down to that Island (forget the name) what a place!
Also spent a couple of weekends in St.Augustine....really interesting little place!
I'm either gonna go to Fort Myers and drive up or maybe Jacksonville or Orlando.....
On my own i could cause a lot of trouble between Lauderdale and Tallahasse so I won't risk that!!!

I went to Orlando last year, nice place and as hot as fuck. For relaxation I'd choose Orlando over NY any day, NYC is totally crowded.

Thats cool man Bobby Bowdens a legend up there bro, personally I think he needs to retire but thats another subject.
Yeah Destin is hella beautiful. Theres probably red tide in the water when you went if there was jelly fish all over the place.
St. Augustine is pretty fun allot of cool old stuff there especially if your into History.
I have actually never hung out in Ft Myers drove through there a few times but never chilled. I have a couple friends that live in Orlando I'll sometimes go over there and hang I haven't been since March though when I took my girl to SeaWorld and Epcot Center.
Well man if your coming through the Tampa/Clearwater Beach area let me know maybe we could meet up and have some drinks on the beach or something.
Re: Saddonians from the USA....
No snow then Donny. It doesn't usually fly until about the first of December with any gusto. Doesn't mean you won't see some earlier. I've seen snow fall as much as 3 and 4 ft. in one day in Late November. Not even kidding..lol...but here we get unusually large snow amounts because we are right to the windward side of Lake Superior.

That's funny. I'll be in both places this summer. My dad is in Sarasota and works in Bradenton, and my girlfriends family is having a family reunition near Panama City. We're flying into Sarasota to see my dad and then driving up to Seaside. Gulf Coast beaches are so much nicer than the ones on the east coast.

I love that drive bro,I can make it in 5 hours from My front door to Panama city line....of course driving the speed limit ;)..more like 95 mph:-X save for all the construction around the Airport in Pensacola...once you hit 98 its an awesome kick back drive, all coastal beach all the way through Port St. Joe...nice
Re: Saddonians from the USA....
too bad i don't have my own place or else i'd say you could come stay here in RI.. 2 and a half hour train ride to NYC.. hour drive to Boston, and 10 minutes to Providence..
with that said.. you should still visit those places even though you can't stay with me ;D
but as TM said.. depends on where you go as far as Cost of the trip.. you'd need to decide that first.. or give us a few options, then we can estimate for you..
and as far as gasoline goes, what kind of miles per gallon do you guys get.. cause if you pay much more than we do here, i don't know how it's possible to pay for anything else in life besides fuel.

Fact, Bowden is too old!
Can't believe he's still clinging on!
And fact, if I go through FL I'll hit ur number man!

I'm a big child when it comes to snow, Canada is mos def on the to do list!
Spicoli;
Would love to head down the Gulf Coast man, the only reason I'm suggesting FL is because of the amount of money I'd save on accomodation!
But who knows! I'm open to anything and I'm easy time and decision wise.

Yeah I hear yeah, but I think hewre in IRL would be considerably higher than anywhere in the states, so I must investigate further.

Man first the fuel costs....
Um....I drive late to try save it and I'm travelling maybe 35 miles a day to work training and back. That costs me a minimum €10 a day which would be $15-18 Dollars I guess. Killer man.
What I don't take into consideration is the sheer size of the US.
Here you can go to one ened of the country to another in about 6 hours.
Irelands pretty tiny in comparison to the US! But as I said above I think the cost of living is well below.
Your place sounds like a cool location. And there would be tons of "Irish" up there....I love teasing Irish-Americans. It's the best!
Do you travel to Boston regularly.
