Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
It's been suggested that you should only do sittups about every other day. Same way with punching on the heavybag. But the problem is, if I go a day without doing them, I feel I really have to work to get into the workout when I do them again.
However, I tried doing them for about 2 or 3 days straight, and the next day I felt my punching power and speed had went up. And with the sittups, I felt my abs were a bit tougher and able to do more.
My question is, what happens if I do them every day? What are the consequences in the long run? (Overtraining, fatigue etc.)?
I'll try doing them about 2 or 3 days, THEN take one day off.

Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
I work out 6 days a week. But that is split into two diff. type work outs that are rotated essentially. Running on Mon. Weights and body weights Tues etc. I think the day rest per specific workout is helpful in recovery and promotes muscle building and increase in cardio.
Then one complete day off to rest the whole shebang. (AND eat pizza) :happy0931sb4:

Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
You can work abs 6 days a week, can't remember why, but it has worked for me. Like Young has said, create a routine which fulfills your goals and rotates the muscles you are using every day.

Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
I work different muscles on different days, but when it comes to doing sittups/crunches, and punching on the heavybag, I don't see why I shouldn't do it every day. ;)

Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
If you're a boxer, the bag should be included daily
(although Scrap will surely prove me wrong:D)
But seriously, if you're a boxer you punch everyday.
As for the abs. 3 times a week.

Yea I agree with the punching every day. Often if I don't feel like skipping before say a run, I will do pad work as a warm up and down. Or say if I am working on a new combo, introduction something new...I will use the pads a lot for a bit until I feel comfortable using it in sparring.

Agreed.
I like to change my routine a lot and avail of all avenues.
But the bag is essential, if you're a boxer.
Pads are brilliant. Scrap doesn't rate them , but I thoink when used properly they're brilliant.

That's interesting, Scrap not thinking the pads are as good as a bag. I wonder why? I mean, for eg. right now I am working really hard on my uppercuts, and the heavy bag just doesn't seem to cut it for that.

Scraps rasoning is that if a combonation is thrown incorrectly and the sequence broke, the workout is wasted.

Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
trey two or three days hard training, then a day off. you make your gains while you recover not while you break down muscle fibers.as for gettin into the workout, that is all mental. work on that or consider just doing it for fun or to stay in shape. i only have trouble getting into a workout when i know i am just sharpeninmg the blade for no reason. i actually like the boredom of training...love long hour long stints on an eliptical or 3 hours in the gym working till i am ready to fall down, but i need time to recover and that is when you gain. maybe just go hrd for a 8 week stint then take 1 week off

That's something else! This quote belongs in "I f*cking Hate (off days)". :)

Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
I work my abs 5/6 days a week lower, sides, upper, and also stability ball for my abs, i split my routine. I do big weights 3 days a week squats, dead lifts, etc. I do cardio mostly every day but i do fun cardio like sparring, basketball etc. I do a lot more than that but i just done a short quick list. But also don't be ashamed to maybe take at least 5 days off to refresh yourself every now and again.

Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
Donny you must have read me wrong. My point is nobody seems to do any work to prepare for improvement in whatever they are doing as regards muscle adaptability or nuiron response to the action they are trying to perform, example you wont get good results by running to get fit for running. You have to prepare the body first to get better results, or you get injured or the skill factor decreases thats a simple fact whatever you do. I could go on but Im sure you get my drift.

uNDERSTOOD.
So what would one do to maximise the benefit of padwork?
In the past I've tried it while keeping my left eye closed, to try increase balance and accuracy. It did seem to help.
-
Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
I guess before you decided how to improve padwork you'd have to decide what function(s) padwork provides or could provide.
Sounds like a science experiment to me!
As for abs - don't forget they will also get worked whilst you are punching , doing squats, press ups etc
-
Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
Donny, by finding out what stops the biomechanics from working properly, whether joints or posture, stopping the function , and solving the problemby bit part whole its what I do love a problem ;D

Ha well you just served up a nice one as I'm warping my mind around the text you just put on screen:D
Right....Ok....
So in order to find the best way to tyrain the body I need to locate the details which would stop the body from operating at it's optimum capacity.
Right so far????
Like....Obviously lack of vision throws off the entire body's balance and timing.......
(This will take me a while to fathom!)
So in order to train the body to increase the body's balance and timing I should train without vision and thus it would improve my balance and timing when I do have my vision.
Is that anywhere along the lines of the concept?

Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
Crunches yes,you can do them to warm up
Sit ups dont give you as much bang for your buck, ball routine alternate
Heavy bag no,youll tear up your joints that way

Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
I think if I get this correct, what punch is saying, is when I am hurting my back throwing hooks and they arent working properly...I am to look at my feet and try fixing it there?
Am I any where even remotely close?

If your throwing from too extended a stance your going to torque the hell out of your back, and your off balance to boot

Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
No its not, but at the end of the day its the root cause. Working the body is a balancing act, the body works all or nothing every atom has a job in making it work. Abductors and Adductors make or are a primary tool in the movement of joints being tight somewhere can throw the balancing off. Now if somethings not right with something that works All or Nothing, everything to a degree is, Houston we have a problem ;D

Okey dokey, I get that.
I've got a hereditary problem with my calves, they get incredibly stiff and have very limited flexibility.
How could that effect my sporting performance?

Greatly,do track stretches before you start your workout,I have very tight hamstrings, trust me it helps.
Also watch your hydration and potassium levels, banana's are real high in it,and gatorade is your friend and pal
Avoid diuretic drinks like coffee

This makes a lot of sense, and also explains how I was getting myself in such bad position for a counter from a tall fighter. It was as if when I missed my left hook I was wrapping my left arm around myself and begging him to hit me with my head stuck out.

Re: Punching heavybag, and doing sittups, EVERYDAY?
A way to train your self to be in balance
We're going to go through stance
Now first you do horse stance, face forward, you need to make sure your knees are in line with your shoulders
Now we'll go over to our cat stance,do a half circle with your rear foot, and turn it sideways. Your lead knee should be under your leed shoulder, and rear should be directly under rear shoulder, now get up on your toes.
You are now in balance
