Enzo saying Pavlik fight will never happen. Pavlik does not deserve it.

Enzo Calzaghe: "A Kelly Pavlik Fight Will Never Happen" - Boxing News


Enzo Calzaghe, father/trainer of Joe Calzaghe, said his son will never fight WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik. He says Pavlik has not earned his right for a bout with Calzaghe and he feels Roy Jones Jr. will be a tougher fight for his son.
"At the end of the day it's never going to happen," Calzaghe told Setanta Sports. "Simply because I don't feel he deserves a shot yet at the big-time. On the back of one performance against a subdued, light fighter. There's a vast, vast difference between Gary and Joe Calzaghe. Gary would be the first to say that. It's chalk and cheese.
"I'm not interested in boosting the profile of a fight that aint going to happen. At the end of the day, you've got Carl Froch, you've got everybody coming up with some [fight]. We want the best available. Someone who I have always admired. Let's be honest about it. Do you think Pavlik deserves to be mentioned on that level? Pound-for-pound as the best fighter in the world?"
Calzaghe says fighting Jones will provide his son with more motivation. He doesn't think Pavlik has done anything special to be considered above the level of Jones.
"I look at it with a different perspective," Calzaghe added. "Motivation is about will. Will is about passion. Does he care about the public, Joe? No. So why scream about it. I want rewarded. Joe wants to be rewarded. Let this guy [Pavlik] win five/eight different belts. Come and talk to me face-to-face, pound-for-pound, somebody who can have a chance to jump the ship."

Kelly still cracks me the fuck up....i swear if i saw him on the street i would think i could take him....but in reality he's whoop my ass and i'd never see it coming. What enzo is saying and doing is interesting, either he's hyping the fight down the line or he saw pavlik first hand and just simply knows pavlik is too much for joe right now, maybe five years ago but now roy jones isn't safe, but it's a much safer bet. I really belive he thought lockett was going to loose but not so badly. I even heard freakin lockett might even retire now, joe probably would too if he fought pavlik. I like joe and all, but have you ever notice how much he contradicts his own words in interviews over the year. One example: He states that Bernard Hoplkins is an all time great who is his hero, then after the fight he states in an interview that Bernard Hopkins is 'nothing'. He contradicts himself all the time.

I dont think he has ever called Hopkins his "Hero" a legend maybe.

The only thing Joe is doing is saying he will fight Jones when in his autobiography he clearly states he thinks Jones is shot.

I would say Pavlik is similar to Kessler but with more workrate and more power, one of the things that let Kessler down was his workrate, just something to consider there.

I got one of those...& I have a feeling that I'll be gettin the other one just around the corner.

While I have no complaints with that...I can honestly say that I do not want to see Pavlik face Calzaghe. Joe, IWHO, would make Kelly look a bit foolish. I like Pavlik...always have & always will...but Joe's the superior boxer here. He proved that against Kessler, Lacy, & Hopkins of late & he's been proving it for the better part of the past decade.

Joe certainly thought Pavlik was the ideal fight at one time because he publicly stated he wanted to fight Pavlik once he beat Hopkins.

I felt a whole lot happier when i realised that once Joe has retired we wont have to hear from Enzo again. Mainly cos all his other fighters suck.

I never bought into Lacy hype anyone who studied his career before the Calzaghe fight would of known he wasn't half what they was hyping him as, just check out his fights with Sheika, Vanderpool.

There are multiple quotes from Joe for the past year saying he would rather fight Pavlik than Jones. He was saying all along how a Pavlik fight would be a huge fight. He even said he would move down to 168 to do it.

I think his struggle with B-Hop and Kelly's absolute destruction of his stablemate, changed his mind. He knows Pavlik is on the rise still and very hungry. Pavlik simply chops guys down and cannot be discouraged in the ring. That is not a good scenario for a guy on 36 year old legs.

So many claim Pavlik is "One Dimensional". I personally see much much more than that. Nothing fancy, but brutally effective.

I don't share your confidence of how the fight will go though, Joe has been diminishing ever so slightly every fight for a few years now, and it really showed against Hopkins, the speed has diminshed, let alone the long lost pop in his punches. He finds it tough against Pavlik IMO, a fight he would have got a comfortable decision in a couple years back.

The difference is Joe has one maybe 2 fights left, whereas Pavlik might have 20. It is less of an embarrasment fighting Contenders and shot guys in the mid part of your career than it is towards the end, cos there are plenty of fights to prove yourself.
