Is Hatton-Malignaggi fight already signed?
Is Hatton-Malignaggi fight already signed?
I'm asking this since Team Hatton seems not entertaining the Pacquiao challenge and they prefer to fight Paulie instead of Pacquiao in November. I'm confused since the Paulie fight is nowhere near in magnitude compared to the Pacquiao fight.
Paulie also said that he will not "step aside". Why? Is this a mandatory fight? For all I know, Paulie is the champion of IBF while Hatton is the IBO champion. They're both champs. Now who's the mandatory of whom?
.

Re: Is Hatton-Malignaggi fight already signed?
Hatton wants easy paydays now he has realised he just aint that good after Mayweather made him look a cunt and knocked him the fuck out.;);D Nowt good about getting KO'd by a smaller man as well when he fights a Welter its there just to big and if he loses to Pac it would be he was just to small.;D

Hatton should not be afraid of losing to the smaller PAC (I see Hatton a heavy favorite in this match-up). He can have a very valid reason, PAC is the world's no. 1 P4P boxer and Hatton only loses to no. 1 P4P boxers (just like his loss to PBF).

Hatton-Paulie is not signed.
Also please don't refer to Hatton as champ because of the IBO belt it kills me to read that.
Hattons the champ because he has the Ring Belt and is the lineal champ not because of that green piece of shit belt.
The thing here is that Hatton is that he's trying to be a man of his word and a Hatton-Paulie fight has been in the talks for some time now. So I think Hatton wants to honor that. Last I checked there was no #1 challenger to Paulies title. I think Hattons rated #5 in the IBF.
Certainly Hattons not defending his stupid IBO belt.
I think it has more to do with #1 vs. #2 in the general rankings.

Re: Is Hatton-Malignaggi fight already signed?
I don't believe there is any ink between Hatton and Malignaggi although discussions were definately under way. Hatton's most likely move is to fight PAC IMO, he's the bigger payday and Hatton will have the size advantage for once in his life.

If Hatton-Paulie not yet signed then why all this news of Paulie not stepping aside or Paulie needing a step aside money?
Who is really not wanting a Hatton-PAC fight? The fans want it, promoters want it (not sure with GBP tho), HBO (or Showtime) want it. Everybody want it and who's this entity trying to prevent a Hatton-PAC fight?

"Boxing Politics"? Can you explain what's the politics behind of not making the Hatton-PAC in November? Or else I tend to believe somebody in Hatton's camp is afraid of the PACMAN.
Could be it some other megafight happening in December?

If what you want to hear is that Hattons scared of Pac then I can just tell you if you'd like? Let me know.
If I knew about these boxing politics here I probably wouldn't be on this site right now. I'd probably be someone involved around this fight/fighters.
Just off the top of my head, where would you stage the fight?
Vegas or UK?
While Pac brings lots of people to Vegas he can't do what Hatton does in the UK.
Does it make sense for Pac to have 1 fight at Lightweight and immediately move up another div?
Who do you pay more Pac the P4P fighter OR the champion who would be defending his title? (Since Pac would be moving up to challenge)
Takes those few things there and try to work them out. Then think of how it would be worked out between both sides.
These are just a few things that sprung to mind.

Also while Hatton has the Ring title, the only strap he currently dons is the IBO one. You can bet your bottom dollar a fight this big doesn't come off without one of the big 4 commissions cutting into the action somehow.
Guess who does have a strap Mr. Malignaggi. Hence enter the politics.

Wheww... that's a lot of politics but I believe this can be iron out... Is equal purse will work out? Or a 55/45 split in favor of Hatton the most logical?
Come on "Boxing Politics", make this fight happen in November...

What a load of crap.
Ricky and Paulie had this fight set up months before fighting on the same bill, Hatton is a man of his word so will fight Malinaggi.
i actually see Paulie as a high risk zero reward were as Pacquaio is medium risk massive reward if Hatton was being a "cu*t" he would ditch plans and fight Manny.

Seen as Hatton already agreed to fight Paulie 6mths ago in Newyork in November, turned down Oscar, is a man of his word plus the fact Paulie wont accept step aside money ALL of that considering yoes its clear Hatton is afraid of Pacquaio
Gimmie a break!

Re: Is Hatton-Malignaggi fight already signed?
I think that to say Hatton Pac is of a far greater magnitude shows a lack of interest in pure boxing imo.
Hatton vs. Pacquaio is a marquee fight. It's only purose is to generate huge sums of moiney and public interest.
As regards boxing significance Hatton vs. Pauoilie is afr more significant.

According to "Boxing Monthly",Hatton's fight with Paulie was already signed before his homecomig fight with Lazcano:p

The recognised No.1 Light welter fighting another highly rated Light Welter.
Bringing clarity to the division before hopping weights etc.
As opposed to the No.1 light welter defending to a man that has fought 2 divisions below him that same year.

Thats mystery to me as well Fenster what has Paulie done lately to make this more interesting fight than Pac vs Hatton ?? to be honest i think Paulie has looked crap in his last few fights and he hasn't impressed me since the Cotto fight. Pacquiao walks around at over 140+ pounds easily i believe so weight wouldn't be an issue. And plus it would be a much more exciting fight than Paulie running all night against Hatton.
-
Re: Is Hatton-Malignaggi fight already signed?
Boxing fans want the divisions to be unified, they want one champion, yet rather than have the division clarified they want an exciting fight with a newcomer to the division....
Doesn't seem fair to me.

I disagree Hatton already proved along time ago he was the number 1 Jr Welterweight in the 140 pound division, why does he need to prove it again in an even weaker version of the Jr Welterweight division ?? Pacquiao vs Hatton would make much more money, its what the fans want. Pacquiao has been getting stronger since moving up and he walks around at 140+. And it would be 10x times more exciting it for certain makes sense to me Donny, but i guess it wouldn't be too bad if Hatton fought Paulie and Pacquiao fought Valero then if both fighters win, then they can face eachother.
-
Re: Is Hatton-Malignaggi fight already signed?
Paulie is decent belt holder in a CRAP division.
Pac-Hatton is a great fight. What will be considered Hatton's best win (should he win) in years to come?
Pac or Powderpuff? ;)

When reflecting on Hatton's legacy would it look better to look back, seeing him compete and dominate all the 140lbs champs or seing him beat a guy that has fought at Super featherweight this year?
Sure Pacquiao walks around at 140, but Ricky walks around at a minimum of 170!
Pacquiao is an exceptional fighter, but tthe end of the day the situation would present Ricky taking the challenge of the smaller man for money.
140 may be shallow at the moment, but there are better fights for Hatton's legacy;
Torres/Holt/Peterson/Malignaggi.

Bob Arum - "all these reports (about a Hatton fight this year) are just ludicrous."
PLus.. if the fight happened in a stadium (100,000 punters) it needs to be summer time (although I don't think this will be the case).

The only fight that interest's me at 140 is Torres vs Hatton i still say Torres TKO's Hatton i think Hatton's punch resistance has gone somewhat. And i think Devon Alexander in time will be the best Jr Welterweight in the world.

Yes but there's also flip side to that coin Donny looking back at Paulie vs Hatton would Hatton get that much credit for beating Paulie really ?? he got two gift decisions in his last two fights, one against Ndou who he dominated in the first fight, and it was one of the most pointless rematches at that time yet he still struggled against an old Ndou. Paulie shouldn't even have a belt IMO and he hasn't been impressive since the Cotto fight way back in 2006. And lets be honest at the moment Paulie is seen as a bit of joke by boxing fans after his last embarrassing performance.

That don't mean shit! Pac is a STAR in boxing. Hatton-Pac will be MEGA! In time Pac will be listed as Hatton's best win alongside Tszyu.
Powderpuff is NO different to Maussa or Urango. If Hatton beats Powderpuff it's seen as him beating a useless twat coming off two (arguable) losses that never beat anyone of any distinction. Fact.

Hatton's new vulnerability to punches certainly makes this fight more ridky for him, but I believe he could pull it out of the bag, by drawing Torres past the 6th. Torres has always had stamina problems and is reduced to a Urango like fighter after his initial onslaught.
But it would be very exciting. I'd also say that Bradley has brought something new to the division. Win or lose he will force fights and create excitment.

I'd give him great credit if he could stop Paulie. I would see that as a great feat and a bright feather in the cap of any fighter given the struggle posed by Malignaggi against Cotto.

The only fight that interest's me at 140 is Torres vs Hatton i still say Torres TKO's Hatton i think Hatton's punch resistance has gone somewhat. And i think Devon Alexander in time will be the best Jr Welterweight in the world.

You know it.
Paulie shouldn't even have a belt IMO and he hasn't been impressive since the Cotto fight way back in 2005.
I'd give him great credit if he could stop Paulie. I would see that as a great feat and a bright feather in the cap of any fighter given the struggle posed by Malignaggi against Cotto.
Just a question for you here Donny you said you see Hatton vs Paulie as the more significant fight, but do you think majority of boxing fans will see it that way ?? because i very much doubt it. I can guarantee you if Hatton beat P4P number 1 boxing star Manny Pacquiao he would get tons more credit than he would against the joker Paulie as he is known as now. And i would certainly praise Hatton if he beat Pacquiao, certainly much more than if he beat the feather fisted joker Paulie just my two cents here Donny.

As I mentioned earlier I feel that a win over Pacquiao would be denigrated as a win over a ntuarally smaller man.
A win over Malignaggi, particularily a stoppage victory historically would be more highly regarded as a good win, given Malignaggis record.
Nobody applauds Joey Maxim for beating SRR, saying he just tired out the smaller man, see what I'm getting at?

Re: Is Hatton-Malignaggi fight already signed?
If Manny has another fight at 135 and then steps up to fight Hatton and Hatton wins ,it will look better for Hatton cause people will say he chose the weakest champion at 135 then steped up to try and win another belt with out defending it at 135.

Cloud-cuckoo land. Fact.
Wow, what a great response.
This is the intelligent debate which makes Saddo's great folks.
Fifty years time your grandson is looking at Hattons record.
Objectively, he can see two scenarios.
1 A win oveer another LWW title holder with defnses on record and a distance loss to Cotto
or
2. A win over a guy rising from Superfeatherweight where he won a MD and then fought Diaz for the LW title.

What a ridiculous selling point.
Give it a rest.

Give it a rest. You're in a minority of one.
Put in some effort, you've given no point as to why Pac vs. Hatton is a better fight apart from it being more exciting.

Joey Maxim doesn't get more credit for beating SRR because SRR was clearly winning the fight until SRR quit because of heat prostration which you can die from, im not saying Maxim wasn't under the same heat. but some humans can handle the heat better than others. Thats totally different from Pacquiao to Hatton plus Maxim weighed 17 more pounds than SRR.

A question for you ICB. If Hatton beat Pac does he go to P4P Number 1 ??

Go back and read the thread.
I and Ice have made it perfectly CLEAR why Pac is a far more significant fight than Powderpuff.
Is Powderpuff a top 10 P4P fighter? Has Powderpuff EVER been a top 10 P4P fighter?
He is NOTHING more than a belt holder at 140. He's not undisputed champ. He doesn't have ONE significant WIN to his name. Hatton beats him it ranks alongside his wins over Maussa, Collazo (not as good) and Urango.
Pac is a boxing GREAT. Enough said.
Your argument is - Powderpuff is a more significant win because he weighs 140. That's it.

Manny Pacquiao is the P4P number 1 fighter and is known by even armchair fans all around the world. Pacquiao is considered to be one of the best fighters of this generation where as Paulie is only known for taking a good beating off Cotto, other than that he has looked like a joke in his other fights after the Cotto one. Hatton would get more credit for beating Pacquiao and he would for certain be a top 10 P4P fighter for beating Pacquiao, and would be praised by boxing fans from all around the world for that feat. He would earn more money and it would be Hatton's kind of a fight a good old tear up, instead of having to chase after Paulie all around the ring, in years to come i truly believe Hatton would get much better praise for beating one of the best fighters of this generation aka Pacquiao, than Paulie who people describe as an 80s reject boy band, and like i said is only known for winning 3 rounds against Cotto and taking a good beating. Where as Pacquiao is considered by boxing fans everywhere to be a great.
