Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Been thinking about this for a while now so I thought I might aswell post it on here and see what you boxing experts think if these 2 Latin Legends could have fought each other both in their primes at Lightweight. I have changed my mind about 100 times thinking about it but I'm gonna say Duran just may have had that little bit too much for Julio Cesar Chavez!

Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
There was only one Roberto "Mano de Piedra" (Hands of Stone) Duran. He was a monster at lightweight. In a tough, exciting battle... he overwhelms Chavez with a middle to late-round KO.

Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Duran by dec or late tko.
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Duran was the greatest Lightweight whoever lived.
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Duran fought the likes of Leonard, Hearns and Hagler need I say more:)

Duran was still an excellent fighter above his natural weight class against legendary caliber fighters even in losing efforts, I can just imagine how great he was in his natural weight class.

Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
i gotta go with duran, i still think sugar ray couldn't beat him at his best and that was above lightweight.

I dunno about that, really. The fact that Duran was able to beat Leonard at Welter, and go 15 rounds with Hagler at middleweight is probably largely due to the ring smarts he had that would have proven to much for Chavez imo. Not saying it directly supports that thought, but I couldn't imagine Chavez ever even living with SRL at welter, not to mention go 15 with Hagler and fight all the bigger guys like Duran did. He was a monsterous Super feather and LW as well, but Duran was clearly a better natural fighter imo, and just as strong at lightweight as Chavez.

Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Duran would win but it would be a good fight as long as it lasted.
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
As much as I like Chavez, this really shouldn't be up for debate.
Chavez is an all time great, but Duran is an all time LEGEND and is the Greatest Lightweight ever and one of the best P4P ever.
Duran by late KO. (Round 11 or 14)

I agree with this, except I don't think Duran would score a KO, I think he wins by clear decision.

Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
If we are talking 12 rounds then id probably go for duran to win 8 rounds to 4 with a couple of knockdowns thrown in.
If its 15 then duran stops him late on with a vicious flurry.
The guy was like a fucking steam train once he got going!!
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Both had excellent choins, huige hearts and power in spades.
The difference between the two?
Duran's better ringcraft and underrated defense.
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Hey man Duran in LW Div. was a Devastator...........Thats why he got the name of " Mano de Piedra "...............;D

Exactly!!! and as stated by the Wind. As great a fighter Chavez is, Duran is a LEGEND. I don't want to go by the QUALITY of fighters Duran has met in his career because Chavez will definitely fail in comparison. I really don't think a lightning fast super skilled fighter like Meldrick Taylor but was featherfisted a total threat to Chavez.

Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Chavez would give a very good account of himself against Duran and I do not think Duran could stop him, JCC had an excellent chin and solid defence. Duran would also have to deal with the onslaught of the superstar so it will not be all one way. Finally JCC fought at Super Feather and was a champion at that weight.

Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
I go with Duran all day and twice on Sunday. I have sdaid it before and will again the Roberto Duran at LW is one of the toughest and greatest fighters to ever lace up the gloves.
Even if you did manage to beat him at LW you would never do it twice.
I also want to make it clear that is in no way an insult or in any way directed to down play Chavez skills because JCC is a legend and was an ATG at 135 but Duran was just another animal at that weight class.

So I guess Chavez would be #2 all time greatest LW:rolleyes:?

And Only beat 1 of them who beat him back twice. Chavez may well have faired similarily! I still stick with Duran thought just thought I'd point that out
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Chavez was so brief at Pure lightweight but was solid at Jr.Light as well.I think some tend to overlook him there....almost like a "Pre Taylor-Post Taylor" situation?I think Duran takes it at Lightweight over distance and some what wide :-X

No this would put him above Duran seeing as Henry Armstrong is the greatest lightweight of all time.
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Pernell and Benny Leonard had the boxing skills to frustrate Duran, but definitely not the power.
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Benny Had for sure Master

Pay him no mind he just wants to start some drama hence the rolling eyes

Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Duran is the smarter boxer he would always find a way to win and overall had better attributes then Chavez who was 1 dimensional although he was great at what he does
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Great matchup, I'd go with Duran UD. I've got Duran as top 5 p4p all time. At Lightweight I would have JCC about 8th of all time.
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Julio Ceaser Chavez would beat have beaten Roberto Duran at super featherweight ;)

yes because when duran fought at super featherweight he was only a boy in fact he was 19 when he last fought at that weight class duran is the better all round fighter thats why he wins for me

Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
I know, JCC kicks the crap out of the 19 year old :p
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
This IS a very knowledgeable forum.
22-3 is pretty convincing proof.
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
which 3 f***** voted for the superstar.
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Beats me... I voted for Duran.
;D
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Oh Dera I'm going to draw some flak for trhis but.....SSM beats Chavez at Lightweight.
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Duran wide points margin.....Chavez could take punishment but no one really understands what a great BOXER Duran was, he could fight on the inside and hit someone without getting hit in return and Chavez was more of a take a couple punches to land a couple punches style fighter and that wouldn't suit fighting against Duran
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
I'll root for the underdog, I'll pick Chavez.
-
Re: Duran Vs Chavez at lightweight in their primes who would win?
Duran all the way for me. I grew up loving his fights except late in his career.
