Chavez Jr. to retire???
Chavez Jr. told TV AZTECA. "The people are very, very un-content with the result (this as Julio Sr is being booed when trying to calm down the crowd) and what can I tell you? What can I tell you as a fighter? Everything is just very sad....because of the fight....I don't know what to do. I don't know what I will do. I need to think about it real hard. I am considering retirement."

His dad also makes an excuse that he was'nt well just before the fight if he wasnt well he should'nt of fought if that was the case.
It seems to me he does'nt like it when the going gets tough.

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
From the sound of it...Chavez already peaked and is on the downside. Lets face it, he's the son of a legendary mexican fighter, he's been spoon fed his whole career with stiffs, and now it seems that this has all backfired because now he wants to retire...because he finally had a hard fight with a nobody. It's hard to be motivated when you're spoon fed opponents and fighting off your fathers name. I think he finally realized that he mite have to fight...to win a fight.

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
This is garbage... Fucking retire then. I mean, Vanda is a decent regional fighter. Chavez Jr. should never have been in a war with this kid. I mean, look what Bonsante Bonsante did to Vanda... He knowcked Vanda down and took a UD. If you're gonna let Matt Vanda retire you then just retire.

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
I still would like to see him fight Ronald Hearns, tho Hearns looked pretty mortal in his last outing (but he did get a KO).

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
Fighters aren't what they used to be anymore... Adversity is a part of any sport. We can't all be Tysons, Whitakers, Jones, Mayweathers, Ali, and the such who saw adversity rarely and mainly at the end of their careers due to being such forces of nature. Everyone want thisngs handed to them nowadays.

Agreed on this. In fairness to Junior, there's been a huge amount of pressure and expectation on him, then agin his purses have been inflated considering the true level of his talent so he can't feel to bad for himself.

His father's record was padded for years and years. His dad just turned out to be physically gifted. JR may have those same gifts... Who knows... We didn't find out with Sr till like his 60th fight;D;D... But his father also knew that when adversity struck that he had the heart and mind to fight through it. He had experience behind him and the knowlege that he's been here before. We'll never know with Jr, I guess as he doesn't want to test those waters, it seems

I see what you're getting at now. It's also possible that it was a heat of the moment comment, and everyones been there after a dissappointment, we'll have to wait and see on Junior.

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
You can't help but think that the son of a famous fighter doesn't have the same passion because he didn't have the adversity growing up. Chavez Jr. didn't have the same worries of his father, he didn't NEED to fight. In a way, it's a good thing that Mayweather Sr.'s career was cut short in that Mayweather Jr. still had to struggle. He NEEDED to fight. If a good life had been handed to him he probably wouldn't have gotten to the level he did. I think Roy Jones is probably an exception because his father scared the shit out of him. I'm sorry, when you carry around a knife because you're afraid of pops coming after you...

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
I've been down on the kid, but this type of rough fight, enviroment etc...is exactly what i thought he needed. If he thought he was going to get instant approval for having his daddy's name then this fight showed him different, but you know what you made it through and with a win in fact. Now you want to quit cause your daddy got booo'ed. Or cause people don't want to hear the old " i was sick story". Another example of if you aren't %100 and not ready to live with the results reguardless of the outcome then don't fight. I'd respect a fighter more that says you know what i'm human and i lost it happens. But this kid wants to quit ?? I hope there is a lot more to the story. This is another reason why i am all for fighters getting paid as much as they possibly can for fights, fighting for pride and fans is extremly important but the fans come and go. Bills don't, they're always there even after you retire. The same fans that threw beer in favor of chavez sr (even in some questionable decisions) were now throwing beer and shit at him in defense of his son , how quick people turn...

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
Sounds like some Saddoboxing posters took in two fights this weekend.
Pride sometimes guys that are "good regional fighters" give top level guys a tough time....Chuck Wepner? Joe Hipp? Michael Bentt? Kirkland Laing? Luis Collazo?
That's why you FIGHT the fight and don't depend on paper to figure it out

...and after all those years, boy! did he show boxing he really had gifts! whoa! All those accomplishments . No wonder he is a hall of famer.
A mistake some boxers have made is to fight for the fans and not themselves. Eric thought the first fight against Pac was not exciting and he won that fight convincingly. I can't even think of any Pac fan having a doubt that Pac lost CLEARLY and that is really something. But on the second one he wanted to "make it more exciting" and decided to exchange with Pac and that was a mistake that cost him a loss. Add to that Pac skills that have improved and not just the charge and hit with the straight left that he used to rely on all the time.
Come on Jr! You'll get booed, you'll get cheered! It's part of it! Boxing legends went through all that. Do it for YOURSELF and fans will appreciate that.

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
I think a lot of it is that he is still very young. He is questioning his own durability. After he rests a couple weeks he will get the drive back again.
He has some very nice tools to work with and they only need to tighten things up with him. He throws very nice and accurate inside punches, but needs to learn how to parry shots coming at him.
The Stamina issues are the easiest to overcome. Yes he is still a work in progress but some tough hard training and sparring, will help him quite a bit.
I think he needs to get away from his fathers influence, perhaps change trainers also to give him a fresh way of thinking.

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
Maybe his heart isn't in it, or he just doesn't have the goods.Seems to me he's just doing it because he's expected to he always talks about his dad and how great he was all the time.

It's something... You don't just decide to quit after a win of all things...

That could be it, but I would not label him yet. I think he will get better from that tough fight though. I mean he could barely stand up the last two rounds, but did it and took his licks. I mean he was ready to collapse, but hung in there and toughed it out.
I think he is just too young, and feels too much pressure on him.

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
No amateur background experience, very young, and son of a legend with tremendous pressure to knock out everyone and then get booed is a very tough thing to absorb. A previous post had it right "he needs to fight for himself ,not the fans", plus a drunk Mexican crowd can get very rowdy and unforgiving because that is what that crowd wants, a K.O. at every fight. He did very good considering his background and he has the tools to be great, those trainers he has need to be replaced. Mexican trainers are notorious for being conservative and arrogant, also with an all guns blazing attitude that hurt their fighters. Just look at Eric Morales, his father was overbearing and arrogant feeding him improper advice that Eric at one point parted ways with his father/trainer. Chavez Jr. should start thinking about the next fight and forget the last fight, a rematch would be beautiful that I could see Chavez Jr. knocking out Vanda. But he needs to regroup and do away with all that posse that feed him bullshit and bad advice. Omar Chavez(younger brother) is a much better fighter than his father or brother, keep an eye for him because the kid has power and skills that are amazing.

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
Chavez Jr. sounds like a bit of a sensitive boy to me. Would love to see what he says after someone actually beats him by decision or knocks him out cold. His reaction would be more cringe worthy than watching Cintron in 05':bawling::bawling::bawling:
Retire; good riddance. I'm not in any hurry to watch him fight 49 more taxi drivers before he decides to step up in class. And I certainly don't want to listen to pity parties during those 49 fights.
-
Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
All Mexican parent are overprotective, but this has to come to a peaceful[if possible] end. Boxing is not the sport to be overprotective if you want your kids to become world champions. Iv'e been saying for some years now that Jr. needed to test the waters and join other camps, he deserves to make a name for himself. His paps would back him eventually, but he needs to prove he has a backbone or else the booos will continue.
-
Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
He could test the waters against James Kirkland, Chavez jr has more fights this should be a fair fight and will answer a lot of questions.

How about if after those 49 fights he accomplishes as much as his dad? Lots of people cry about Chavez padding up his resume but everybody forgets all the things he accomplished in the ring :( . If Chavez started loosing after padding up his record then, yeah, I would understand why people would talk about his record but just look at all his accomplishments. Not bad, not bad at all:cool:.

Re: Chavez Jr. to retire???
This site has suddenly become full of whiners.....give Chavez a break! Is he or is he not a great fighter? JC was great, JC Jr. deserves some time to season he's 22 fucking years old and had very little if any amateur background....give the kid a break!

It's not a publicity stunt it's jackass "fans" of boxing who expect the fighters to be perfect and those "fans" (some of them who are on this website) need to fuck off!
JC Jr. fought on his father's birthday and wanted to win for his father and what happens some group of assholes starts throwing shit at him.....disgraceful......boxing fans can be some of the most tactless bastards this side of MMA

Lyle, who claimed him to be perfect? And fuck it! Kendall Holt got cans bounced off him and he's not fucking crying. "boo hoo... I struggled in my last fight and going to retire." what the fuck? Fans are supposed to give his ass props for being a crybaby? Its hilarious. You write like the kid is fresh to the game so we should cut him slack. He's got over40 fights and he's a big boy... Fight or go do something else. Lyle, just so you remember this is what this site is for.
