Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
Gotta go with Archie Moore without giving it a thought....I say Spinks is second...
-
Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
Ezzard Charles he beat Archie Moore 5 times and Charles Burley twice
-
Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
Not necessarily in order, but these are my picks
Archie Moore
Billy Conn
Ezzard Charles
Roy Jones Jr
Michael Spinks
Jimmy Bivins
Bob Foster
Harold Johnson
Philadelphia Jack O'Brien
Maxie Rosenbloom
Tiger Jack Fox
-
Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
None other then Bob Foster for me...
-
Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
Roy Jones Jr. All due respect to greats like Archie Moore and Bob Foster, who are two of my favorites, but I think Roy Jones whips any 175lber that ever lived.
People can talk shit about him now that he's washed up, or say that he had lousy compedition, but there was never anything like Roy before and there never will be again. Unbelievable fighter.

Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
Ezzard Charles would be my vote, Foster is there and so is Spinks and I think they may have been able to beat Roy Jones. Although he was not there long Micheal Moorer would be dangerous for all the great light heavies, no one hit harder.

Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
The reason that I didn't include Ezzard Charles in this list is because I view him as more of an heavyweight than a light heavy and he never held the light heavy title!

Sorry i dont get that logic charles was past his prime when he moved up to heavyweight and so what if he didnt win a title at light heavyweight he still whooped archie moore 5 times and beat the most ducked and probably one of the most skilled light heavyweights of all time charles burley i know what your trying to say its easy to look at his record and say you consider him more of a heavyweight but trust me he was much better at light heavyweight

Also why I had a other category is I knew people would disagree with some of my choices so they can vote other and state who! Ezzard will be remembered as more of a heavyweight for the fact he was heavyweight champ and he would in this day and age have beaten Marciano with the terrible cut he gave him.

Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
Well i might be the only one that thinks this but what about Billy Conn and then the great Gene Tunney but maybe there to old school anyhow. Micheal Spinks would of knocked Roy Jones Jr out and thats how i always felt but thats just me and buy the way good thread rep coming your way. By the way who did you vote for i take it Roy Jones Jr right or am i wrong.

Yep absolutely! I honestly think he was one of the greatest p4p fighters of all time in his prime and the greatest light heavy ever.
Again with Conn and Tunney I was only allowed 10 choices and they were all off the top of my head so sorry for the ones I missed!

Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
Call me crazy but I don't think we've seen enough of Michael Moorer at this weight I feel he could have easily cleaned out the light heavies. a southpaw, tremendous boxing ability great speed, and flat out awesome punching power.

Dont know about Spinks and Jones, interesting. Both could fight from angles others cant and lower and coiled positions too, both counter punch off on the others reactions. Usually different styles make for better fights. I think Roy could still hit on the move better while in transition and maybe Michael could avoid some and counter harder in some head on clashes timing both moveing forwards. :-\, I think Roy would of out drawn him.:fighting0040mf3: < Thats Michael in the black shorts.

Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
The RJJ in the 2nd Griffen fight would have beaten any LHW in history IMO! That was a focused dangerous RJJ with a point 2 prove, shame he didn't have that killer instinct 4 all his fights!
-
Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
Micheal Spinks was very weird style and i think he had the power advantage and reach over Roy just think it be close until Spinks connected and i think that it would send Roy to the canvas.

Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
and where is tarver in that list

He was calling everyone out then.....after so long Ive changed my mind on P.C. Williams vs. Moorer,I think Moorer would have gotten to him even though Moorer was still pretty green But I do think that Virgil Hill (I could not stand him at the time) would have given Michael many many problems and could eek it out.
Also......Can my Man Saad get some love ;D;D By no means the greatest but damn sure the most intense you might come across :puncher:
I'l go with archie Moore

Gotta agree here. Roys focus and determination to get Griffin out of there was immense any light heavy in history would have been wiped out that night!!!!!

I was hoping Tarver was the greatest thing to hit 175 in decades.

Yeah it is too bad he never stuck around in the division for a while longer. At lt heavy, he would have been a tough one to topple.

I'm not sure his body would have allowed him to stay at light heavy, I mean he must have been draining himself something chronic to make 175 in the end!

Agree..and "crazy" just sums up Michael after reading Teddy Atlas's book---his biggest failing ,like so many in the game, was himself and self doubts.
I am going for Antonio Tarver who I felt was robbed in that 1st fight against RJJ in 2003,who sadly has gone past his peak and should have quit after the last rumble with Tarver.

Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
The only thing to beat Charles was A L S over time I believe no Fighter did.

He was actually beaten 25 times and KOd 7 but I know what you mean most of them came towards the end and there was no shame in losing to Rocky and Jersey Joe, in fact I think he beat Joe twice and got beat back off him twice not to mention beating the legendary (but aged) Joe Louis.
I don't know a lot about his illness ALS but from what I can gather he was in a similar (but worse) state to Ali. I hate to see things like this happen to people like that. I mean they are such powerful men and then they get these horrible diseases and they turn into a shell of that one time phenomenon.

Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
Im pretty sure He was Diagnosed with the Desease Before the Rocky Fight in fact a bit before. He died at 53 very young. If you check A L S youll think How the Fuck could He Fight.
-
Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
He went through a bad patch losing to Bivens and Marshall getting knocked down 8 times with Bivens And Marshall koing Him plus having him down 8 times Both great fighters. I remember Marshall coming over to England and KOd Freddie Mills in 1 . Yet after that He went on a run beating the pair of them , a Fighting Man no doubt.

Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
GENE TUNNEY shame he wasn't on the list
-
Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time

Amen to that!
-
Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
Roy Jones was the greatest super middle we have ever seen he was a great light heavy but not the greatest.
-
Re: Who is the greatest Light heavyweight of all time
God damn it, GENE TUNNEY!!!
He beat Georges Carpintier, Harry Greb, Tommy Loughran, Battling Levinsky, and Leo Houck (who had a decent record)....give Gene some respect!!!!
