Great win for Tony, who do you guys think will be up next for him?
LEt's get PAul Wiliams re-match in NOVEMBER
I would say re-match but if anybody steals souls its Margarito.
As a Paul Williams fan, I would say rematch Paul Williams. If I was a Margarito fan, I would say anybody else on the list.
In all honesty, this is how I see it playing out. And of course none of this has any basis in reality, but only in my own mind. It's not to far fetched though. If Williams-Wright doesn't happen, then I honestly envision Williams-Margarito II. If that happens I see pretty much the same result as the first fight if not wider for Williams.
If that happens, and Cotto wins a couple rebound fights then Cotto-Williams could happen and I see Cotto winning that, giving us a Cotto-Margarito rematch. That would be a dream scenario.
Margarito probably feels on top of the world right now and I'm sure will chase Oscar and Williams, I don't know how he shakes out with Oscar but for his sake he should stay away from the terrible style matchup that is Paul Williams.
Tony had Williams number toward the end of the fight he knows how to box Paul now i see quite a wide win for Tony in that fight.
But Paul is about to get beat up at 160 so i dont think Williams will be at the elite end for much longer.
Rematch with Williams I don't know who would win in that though!
I think a rematch with Williams is in order, but I if Oscar gives Tony the big payday he should go for that first. He deserves some big money and I would love to him KO Oscar.
A rematch with williams or Cotto.
I see Mayweather coming out of retirement now for 2 reasons!
1. Margarito looked very beatable when Cotto boxed him.
2.Mayweather won't be able to resist when people start saying Tony would beat him (which they will).
I would rather see De La Hoya fight him but after last night I don't see it, Oscar is getting on a bit now and I don't think he would want some PITBULL chasing him round the ring for 12 rounds. That said I've never known Oscar back down to a fight before and I wouldn't write Oscar off. I certainly don't see him stopping Oscar!
id like to see him fight mosley!!
I hope he fights Oscar and pounds him into retirement:). He deserves the match.
Both guys coming out of two good wins, paul redemption against quintana and tony defeated cotto. I want to see a rematch between paul and tony.
I disagree amat, I do not think it will be a wider decision for paul and I do not thing its a terrible style matchup for tony.
Tony just started off slow in the first fight but he figured paul out at the end and imo could stop paul. I think tony beats paul in the rematch. tony just didn't come in as intense in the first paul fight. Now he has the fuel to beat pual down since he lost a close fight with him before.
He should avenge his loss with Williams and he will not make the same mistake again. Tony will start quicker and take him out next time;D
It's 100% De la Hoya for a number of reasons.
#1 Oscar brings more money to a fight with Toni IMO
#2 This fight is something where both guys can prove how great they are
#3 Toni is still vulnerable to being outboxed so a fight with Mayweather is not the right choice as Floyd can easily do better than Miguel in regards to movement and defense.
I think after watching the Cotto-Margarito fight that Miguel proved he could really pair up nicely vs Mayweather Jr. as he showed he could move well and still land with power and accuracy
its gotta be a williams rematch for Tony to cement beig the top guy in the division.
I think any of the choices look good. But personally I think he should avenge his loss to Williams. An aggresive Margarito jumping out of the gate would steamroller Williams a 2nd time around, IMO.
I cannot picture Arum putting Margarito anywhere near Williams again. He knows what the risk is against Williams and will want to keep that belt in house.
You might see a Cotto rematch or a fight against the Clottey/Judah winner.
Oscar has already said that in no circumstances will he fight Margarito. He claims that he doesn't want his last fight to be against another Mexican as the Mexican fans will hate him.
In a perfect world for me, Margarito will win the De La Hoya sweepstakes and utterly DESTROY Oscar in December. Then after that, he should have a rematch with Paul Williams and take his belt. Then, take on Andre Berto and completely unify the division. At this point it would be IMPOSSIBLE for Floyd to avoid Tony! OR he can just claim he's ACTUALLY retired.
It would need an inspired effort from Margarito to pull this off but last night showed me he can do anything..
None of the above
cotto is clearly deserving of a rematch and marg should do the honorable thing and allow him one.
I genuinely now see a cotto-margarito-williams triangle of fights now just like it was barrera-morales-pacquiao and i can genuinely say it excites the hell out of me ;D;D;D
Really? I don't see it that way. If you recall, Margarito started slow against Williams, who built up an early lead with his busy workrate. But in the end, Margarito was beginning to pick up steam, and probably won the majority of the last few rounds... but is wasn't enough to give him the decision. He wouldn't make the same mistake twice.
I would not mind a Williams rematch but Rue Paul is going in a weightier direction It seems.Would not be shocked to see Williams at Jr middle/Middleweight soon. That was not a blow out but a very close fight with Williams boxing like A freak in the first 6 rounds and Tony coming on strong...as usual in the late rounds.
Berto has title and unifictaions are always nice but right now, regardless of handspeed and potential Berto would be well over his head and get beatup bad imo
Does anyone,in hindsight really still believe that tired line.."If Clottey did not injure his hand,He would have beaten Tony"...blah:bucktooth: seriously!
I think it will either be Mayweather or Delahypa.
I think its vital for Antonio Margarito to revenge his defeat to Paul Williams before he starts thinking of big pay day against Oscar De La Hoya and as for Miguel Cotto i think he should be left alone for awhile and let him redeem himself sticking him in with Antonio Margarito straight away just after the beating he received would be just like throwing him into the lions den...........
I just see Arum avoiding Williams because Williams takes away much of the advantages that Margarito has over everyone else. His size and punch output offer more than what Margarito offers, his chin might not be as good, but Margarito will not test it. The only advantages I see Margarito having are Stamina and Determination.
I'd like to see Tony fight Williams asap. I would imagine he wants to redeem himself from that loss last year against Paul. I would also love to see him fight Zab; which alot of people last year said would never happen, so I'm actually pulling for Judah to win so Tony can maybe get a fight with him and beat him out of the game. Berto's standing around as well, so maybe that fight will get made, though Berto better be ready or he's going to get trounced; by Tony or Cotto.
As for Cotto, maybe get another fight before he faces Tony again. He will need to build back up his confidence{assuming he lost any} before facing the one guy who broke him. I definately see a rematch, but I don't see it being in Cotto's best interest right now to jump right back in there with the Tornado.
I'd like to see Cintron/Cotto and I get the feeling that will be his next fight, maybe like a PR showdown? Again, Berto could possibly get a fight with Cotto, though I think Cintron, or the winner of Clottey/Judah, is the best bet for Berto right now imo.
Very thick in the WW department; lots of potential great fights.
Yeah, de La hoya makes the most sense b/c of the $$ but also b/c he's still dangerous, especially with his height and reach advantage at welter. And Kudos to ODLH for always taking dangerous fights when he, more than any other boxer, has the ability to make $$ w/o taking risks.
And wow, what a loaded division: Margarito, ODLH, Williams, Cotto, Mosely, an maybe Mayweather.
Floyd needs to come out of retirement and I believe he will. Whats standing between him being an all-time great and top-10 all time great is competition, being tested, and overcoming obstacles. He has an opportunity to make history here.
The worst possible move Margarito could make is to fight a rematch with Paul Williams at light middle . I cannot think of a more stupid move but he is such a warrior that he might take that fight cuz of his pride
I don't think so BUT money talks and I think Oscar will take the fight because who else is there for him to fight? I guess Shane Mosley would try to fight Tony and might be able to pull out a decision win vs him.
I want to see a rematch with Cotto.
The only point to a rematch would be to truly retire Cotto, I was on the Toni wagon since this fight was signed but, I like Cotto too much for that. Cotto needs to fight a couple smaller guys first get his confidence up then maybe fight cintron to get the hang of fighting a bigger guy, then maybe in 2 years fight Toni again...just to cement toni's legacy ;)
I voted for the Clottey/Judah winner. I don't think he'll rematch Williams who I think has his number, but he'll beat anyone else in the division. Next fight will either be C/J or a mandatory.
Of course I could be completely wrong about this.
Agreed. I've noticed some people on here like to get at Mayweather even saying that he retired because the other good fighters in his division like Mosley, Cotto, Margarito, Williams and De La Hoya would beat him.
I'd like to know where the logic in this comes from. Mosley in his prime may have caused Mayweather a few problems but i'd still edge toward Floyd but now I think Mayweather takes an easy decision. Cotto and Margarito IMO would get totally outboxed, all due respect but Mayweathers skills are still light years ahead of Cottos and he wouldn't let Margarito bully him into fighting the way he wants the way Cotto did. Williams with his height and good skills may cause Floyd trouble but I'm yet to see a boxing riddle that Floyd cannot figure out so I'd again go for a Mayweather points victory, and finally De La Hoya I'd probably give him the best chance of beating Floyd as he's already been in there with him and caused him a lot of trouble early on, but again Floyd turned it around and beat him (just) and I would if I had to bet on it go for the same result again.
I read that Arum said the winner by Judah vs Clotey could face with the winner Cotto/Margaro in November , so Margaro probably fight with one of both in November , or probably could change.................:-\
