I've been deep in thought about this fight and honestly, what benefit will hopkins get if he defeats Pavlik? Is it becuz Taylor won the middleweight championship from Hopkins & by beating Pavlik would be like getting it back cuz Pavlik dismantled Taylor? If Pavlik wins what will benefit him? would it put him up higher in the P4P rankings & solidify his name? What do you think and why?
Hopkins gets another possible future HOFer on his record,and goes right back up the P4P list with a win,and his legacy gets better.I suppose at the back of his mind he does think he can make up the 2 loses against Taylor with this.Pavlik dont get much out of this with the casual Boxing fan,I think i'll respect him more if he can get a clear win against B Hop! If he gets a K.O I think most Boxing fans will sit up and take notice! Oh theres allways the $$$$$$$$$$$ factor!!!!

I said it loooong ago a Hopkins fight IS not the path to take if you want to look good and appeal to the masses.
Why?
Cause Ol' Saint-Bernard aint gonna let Pavlik look good. Ol' Saint-Bernard never makes anyone look good even when they beat him.
Even if Pavlik wins, I don't see how it will help him boost this superstar title his management wants him to reach.
...b-hop gets another big name on his list before retirement, hop wouldn't be able to live with himself going out on a loss or a win over a sub par opponet. I belive he wants another tarver type win where he's doubted and pulls it out before he kicks rocks and steps aside. I highly doubt this will be his last fight since i don't see him beating pavlik, but i've said that about hopkins tons of times, some betters would probably be worried if said hop would win. I picked him against joe and look what happened !
Mick #1 Do you think you have enough pics in your sig? #2 Bernard won't let Kelly look good but Bernard has also never been KO'd and if Kelly does that then he does look impressive and I think that's the big selling point of this fight to Pavlik.
And if Bernard shocks Kelly then hell people keep talking about how great he is and if Roy Jones Jr. beats Calzaghe (which COULD happen although it's an unlikely outcome) it sets up a giant fight with those guys.
Bernard should have fought James Toney...that would have been a tough tough fight

The doesn't it make sense for Pavlik to test himself vs Bernard Hopkins thereby testing himself by proxy vs Joe Calzaghe thereby setting up a superfight vs Joe Calzaghe. Yes it seems as if both Calzaghe and Pavlik are going around their asses to get to their elbows but hey Pavlik vs Hopkins AND Calzaghe vs Jones Jr. are good fights....not PPV fights IMO but good fights and if they were matched on the same night on the same card then YES I would love to pay to see those fights

Because if Pavlik beats Hopkins in a crude manner then were can Joe Calzaghe hide. You dont think the Lockett fight had a little to do with that. Joe wanted to fight Pavlik years ago now Joe says he is unworthy. What a load of crap. He is running. Pavlik is just trying to lay down the spike strips. Thats why this fight is important. Look at Joe vs kessler... to non american contenent fighters who had any half decent american fight fan talking about it non stop... fight could of gone ahead right after lacy, would of been ok, but after Joe won it would of been billed as another win agasint another over hyped EU fighter... Joe may say some silly things and contredicted him self in interviews, but he makes his fights as anticipated more than oscar;)

Name two fighters that went 12rds with Calzaghe and didnt have a mark on there face.
The only fight he didnt look great in was the Hopkins fight a career worst didplay and that was because he has to lead against a come foward fighter its different. They always end up busted up.
watch the Lacy and Kessler fights, Calzaghe had loads left in the tank, I don't think u can knock his stamina and at 36 thats quite impressive considering how busy a fighter he isQuote:

Hopkins was the greatest middleweight of the last 20 years and Pavlik is the new universally recognised middleweight champ. Both American why wouldn't Kelly want a chance to fight a legend?
As for Bernard, he reigned as middleweight champ for a decade and got the chance to take on the new reigning middleweight champ, the old warhorse against the young lion.
The fight always made great sense to me, a dangerous fight for both men and full credit to them both for taking it.
