DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
Just got the news and it is 100% official
C'mon big boy:cool:
-
Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
Good fight.
Much better than JD Crapman.
-
Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
I like the fight, a decent first matchup but it's ironic that Haye and his team are now bigging up an opponent who when mentioned in past weeks by Bunce Haye scoffed at saying he had was old, had beaten nobody and presented no challenge.
Still I guess it shows Haye's honesty when dealing with the media, he definitely speaks from his heart and gets over excited sometimes.
I'd still laugh if he gets knocked out but if he does prove he can hang with the big boys then I'll eventually get behind him.

Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
Superb news for haye and well done Adam Booth on securing this one...
Great step for David;)

Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
Im going to write an article on this!
-
Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
Decent opposition, a name we are all familiar with. Im assuming Barret had to be moved into someones (probably WBO) rankings to make this tick all the boxes?
Haye inside 3.
-
Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
The Hayemaker should run right thru Barret with ease
Tell you what Monte Barret and Owen Beck put on quite a tear up a few years back.. I thought Barret would have done a little better in his career
-
Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
He's still gotta show discipline and controlled agression,i have no doubt he can knock Barret halfway across South London but Barret has fast hands and can bang.
Dangerous first bout but that's what David is all about;)
Fearless with a huge pair;D

Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
Good breakout oppurtunity for Haye.Barrett can be eratic but has some skills and solid experience. This will be the the first time in a very long time that Barret faces a not so big heavyweight with solid speed, nice match up.

Barrett is a far better than that hillbilly with the "impressive" unbeaten record that would have lasted 90 seconds.
He may be cagey enough to make it half-interesting for a while.
-
Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
It's OK I suppose. WBO number 6 Barret so Haye stuck to his word on someone rated in the top ten. I expect Haye to blast him out in a few rounds scoring a sensational KO.

Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
Dont make anything more of this then what it is,a test the heavy weight waters fight, heck Barrett got dropped in the second by Cliff"Who?"Couser last year
-
Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
and he knocked him out in the rematch. it just showed he had a lack of focus, it can happen to a fighter.

and it shows the state of mind he must of been in losing to a fight of that calibre. It was a one off though, its nothing to worry about. Barrett knows that and thats why he settled the score in the rematch

And cmon again, the only fight he's won recently against a fighter with a decent record was Tye Fields who had his record inflated by never fighting anything but tomato cans
Monte's record in his last 6 fights is 3-3
Not exactly a prime Tyson or Lewis is it?
Like I said, dont get too hyped about this, this is a testing the waters fight, and in all honesty I think its a good idea to do it that way.

And again,if your a serious contender you CANT lose to a low level club fighter, thats like being a former title holder and getting dropped like a rock by Jeremy Bates

but loosing two fights on the trot can effect a fight mentally and i believe that he was in a negative state of mind going into that fight. again as i said it was a one off fight and he proved that in the rematch didnt he ? Tye fields was still working up the ranks and to get a big guy like him out in the first round was good for Barrett, a real good confidence booster IMO. He struggles against bigger fighters ie wlad and valuev, he lost to rahman due to the fact he was his mate and couldnt really get skyed for the fight. he lost to whittaker and mesi in close fights. couser is the only fight that he shouldnt have lost at all, but he wronged that loss and hes back on track now.
hes got bottle stepping in with haye on his home ground and i respect that.

Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
I think this will be a great test for Haye. I think Barrett will test him I'll give him a little bit more credit than most I believe he could go the distance with Haye. It just depends how much he's lost in the last few years. I remember a similiar fight when Barrett fought Owen Beck. It was supposed to be Beck's coming out party but Barrett put an end to all of that in a hurry in a great fight. I am not jumping the gun and saying it will happen in this fight also but one never know's.

Sorry,if your a top flight fighter, you dont get sparked in whats supposed to be a tune up fight against a professional tomato can. Heck Golata came out retirement and sparked a similar fighter in Bates.
Barrett is a career also ran, sort of like Fres Oquendo.
Face it the Beck win was 3 years ago,and Beck hasnt exactly tore up the division since then.
Its a good fight for Haye to get a feel for the division, but thats all it is

okay i appreciate your point. but all i have to say is he righted that wrong though? its not like hes coming off the loss to couser and going straight into the haye fight though, hes avenged the loss in quick sensation and coming off a first round win in the hands of tye fields. Haye could have found a worse oppanent but hes not, Barrett has a name in the heavyweight ranks and thats all that matters for haye ;)
-
Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
Oh dont get me wrong,I think Barrett's a good choice,he still has name recognition,he hasnt fought well lately, and it gives Haye a chance to get his feet wet at heavyweight.
Im just saying, dont make it in to a clash of the Titans. I mean Barrett has a punchers chance, but thats about all he has.
And Haye finally had to fight somebody, between one guy pulling out,and Chapman's manager not bothering to mention the fight to Chapman,it had been 110& Snafu before this

Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
This is a far cry from "Give me Wladdy." But I suppose he is a solid enough test for a HW moving up.
My man Lyakhovich would have been a much better fight personally, but Haye will look good while still leaving us waiting to see if He can mix it up with the big boys.

Depending on where Lyakovich's weight is right now, that would be much more dangerous fight right now,he's got suprising hand speed for a heavy, oddly enough I was dubbing my copy of Lyakovich Brewster on to DVD last night
-
Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
In my opinion Lyakhovich has been handled pretty poorly and then when he did have the chance to recitify himself........he stunk out the place in the shittiest HW fight of all time (and that is impressive).
After Haye fights Barrett we still will not no whether he can even compete with top opposition at HW. That is a question SL would have answered.
-
Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
This is ok, I don't know how much Barrett really has anymore but its better than Chapman. Really if Haye had just not talked it up so much then this would seem like a pretty good first fight after a move up, no need to raise expectations too much.

I agree. But he created the criticism he is getting now. But if I was smashup I would be excited. Barrett actually has the potential to bang for awhile and have the stamina to make a real bout of it.
-
Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
Decent fight for David. Would be surprised if this goes more than 3 rounds either way.
A good performance from the Hayemaker could get him the Klitschko fight but a poor one could really harm his chances

What happened to Kevin Johnson? I thought that would have been a decent test, certainly a tougher opponent than Monte Barret imo.

Re: DAVID HAYE v MONTE BARRET - Official
Glad he finally go a fight.
Barrett isn't a bad fight for his first fight at heavyweight. Barrett has power.
Hope Haye puts on a good performance.
