Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez - Let's talk here!!! pics. & vids.!!
Abraham steamrolls through Marquez? Abraham, as usual, starts slow and then wakes up in the 7th round for a late stoppage? People's take?
-
Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
I'm going with marquez not because he's better but because he's being way overlooked.
-
Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
Arthur will not catch him, he will get started at round 10.
-
Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
Abraham with a mid to late round stoppage
-
Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
A Late stoppage win for Abraham.

Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
Overlook Raul Marquez at your peril AA might just be in for a nasty shock. :)
Hi Mick my friend how goes it??
-
Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
Marquez looked good, and showed a lot of heart in his fight against Lorenzo, and as much as I would like to see him go the distance with Abraham, I just don't see it happening.
I'm going with Abraham TKO in the 7th.

All is good CJ... :)
As for my prediction I just feel that the ware and tear on Marquez from all the brutal fights he's been in will be his downfall.
His heart and his will to win is for certain to be unmatched that day but I just feel it wont be enough.

Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
It will likely go to the latter rounds, maybe an Abraham points win.
As noted above Arthur rarely gets going early and as long as he's winning the fight comfortably may not even open up much at all.
I like Arthur, when he does go on the offensive I think he's the most devestating puncher in the whole middleweight division, it's just a shame his attacks rarely last longer than 15 seconds.
But I love his style, this is a bit abstract but he reminds me of the Ancient Greeks and their hoplites.
He starts by going into a defensive shell a la the Hoplites shield wall formation where he's just impenetrable to sword and arrow and then when the enemy have loosed all their arrows he launches into a brilliant attack, akin to Miltiades leading the Greek charge at Marathon or Pausanias routing the Persians at Plataea.
Whenever I watch him I just think of the start of the movie Troy when Achilles is landing with his troops on the beach, forget Katsidis Arthur Abraham is the real Greek Achilles

Quite an active imagination you got there Bilbs....I think Marquez has alot of crafty vet moves, he could get the better of Abraham if he does go the defensive route. Should be a good matchup that goes the distance.
-
Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
Could not think of a more deserving vet who merits a huge payday in the big show. But,Marquez has to many miles, too many hard battles and too much Abraham here. This will be brutal and like shaving with a lawnmower for Marquez :-X.Hope Im wrong though

The Greek phalanx was pretty vulnerable to archers and any other type of fighting that did not involve head on combat with another phalanx or a like-minded group of opposing infantry. We actually just covered the Hoplite/Phalanx in my military history and technology class. There's a lot of mythology surrounding the Hoplite. The Persians blundered away many victories. Check out "The Western Way of War: Infantry Battles in Classical Greece" if you find this stuff interesting, I've enjoyed what I have read so far.
But I do agree with what you say about Abraham, he has the tools to be one of the most exciting fighters in boxing, but his safety first attitude holds him back.

I enjoy Ancient History. I prefer narrative works more than text heavy stuff though.
My favourite books on the subject are Persian Fire and Rubicon both by Tom Holland. He writes like a narrative and its gripping stuff.
I also loved Heroditus 'Histories' and Thucydides 'History of the Peloponnesian War' was a lot more interesting than its reputation.
Always nice when we can turn a talk about a boxer into a history lesson :)

Indeed, want to debunk the myth of ww2 as a war where 'good' democracies fought 'evil' facism, and discuss how the allies were initially in collusion with Hitler?

ha I don't know anything about that but it sounds like the kind of extreme conspiracy type theory that I'd definitely subscribe to :p

I only know a fairly small amount about it so far, but it's intriguing, plausible, and supported by at least some facts. I'm buying a book that is somewhat related to the subject tomorrow, I'll let you know the title then b/c I can't remember right now.

Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
I believe what they say about power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, therefore meaning that every government is inherently corrupt and self serving.
It wouldn't suprise me at all.

Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
Abraham by KO. Marquez has a bad history of getting cut and swelling up real bad so I could see him being stopped on cuts.
-
Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
I go with AA but not as easy as some might think
-
Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
You know... In the boxing predictions I am picking AA by pts, but I think Marquez has a really good chance of taking this one.
Marquez has a solid chin. If AA thinks he can sit on the ropes and win this one on defense a la PBF, you might want to reconsider. Marquez WILL work his body, I don't care how much he covers his body with those big elbows (his arms are really long fyi). I think Marquez is gonna get to him in the early rounds and hopfully take some of the pop off his shots. Marquez has been in the ring with much better opposition than AA. AA is proving himself in the ring.
The bad news is we are in Germany. This is a country that is content with scoring one goal in a soccer game and playing defense for 80 minutes to win. Marquez will keep busy but will it be enough to pick up a bunch of rounds early?
Marquez could really pull off the upset here, and actually land the Pavlik fight next year... I would love to see him do it. I think he has the skillz and the know how and he is NEVER out of shape for his fights.
Marquez decision SD ... 115- 113, 115-113, 108-112

Definitely reasonable. The point being if AA sits on the ropes for the first four rounds he may bury himself and not be able to dig out of the hole. On the other hand, AA can punch - ask Miranda. If AA sits on the ropes and Marquez tires from exerting himself in an effort that never actually threatens AA, AA may sneak back and knock Marquez out in the later rounds.
I am rooting for AA because I want to see him in a unification fight with Pavlik next year.

Re: Arthur Abraham v. Raul Marquez
Abraham defence reminds me of Michael Watson. Only Arthur explodes with counter hook.

Would you agree that if AA doesn't convincingly stop Marquez, Jermain Taylor begins to look very good? Jermain stopped Marquez in 9 rounds when Marquez was faster and younger.

Bad news for AA... he looks like a corpse... Raul looks more fit...
Raul by KO... AA too drained...

The thing with trying to predict an upset is the HARDER you try (and believe me my god are you trying) the harder it'll be for you to actually get it right for once.
It also becomes clear to see you don't follow or haven't followed boxing for too long.
There is no way I can see Marquez go the distance and even more so him winning.
If ANYONE looks like their drained in tha pic. it's Marquez.
Too many miles in that car and far too many signs of wear and tare in the face.
Chances are the second AA connects solid shots he'll cut Marquez open.
Marquez eyebrows pretty much cut when they catch wind of a punch.
He's def. a warrior and if it's one thing I'm certain is that he's gonna fight his ass off. The guy was fucken talented in his prime, he had really good hand speed to go with some outstanding combinations. I just think the younger and physically stronger lion here will beat him.

Ha ha ha ;D come on Mick, that pic was last October 3 (see the date of my post). It's very clear in my post that I picked Marquez coz AA looked too drained. If AA was not able to invent some illness and didn't pull out from that original schedule, I think there's a very big chance my prediction in that original schedule will come true...
Now for the most recent weigh-in conducted November 7...
http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/2...ueznov7ke8.jpg
AA looks better but look at Raul, he looks like he's in the very best physical condition (looks like prime)... I'm still picking Raul to upset AA... Like what you said, the guy is fucken talented... ;D

Even in his 'Prime', Marquez took substantial damage fight to fight. The man is all heart and fortitude.......and scar tissue. He will go out on his shield,Abrahams in form will be effective and looking to bigger things.I hope Marquez finds a brick but just do not see it at all :fight:
