Mismatch that is ODH v Manny Pac
I do not know if this has been done before :p
But how the hell in Manny going to ever beat ODH?
Some respected commentators believe Manny will win, but he is just far too small and Oscar is only hyping the fight because he knows he will walk through Pac man and look good against a great but blown up flyweight.
WTF!!!!

(LOL)
Yeah... it's been done a "few" times before. But you're still 100% correct in your assertions.

Re: Mismatch that is ODH v Manny Pac
Here are the facts
Manny and Oscar are doing it for the money first and foremost.
Oscar wants to beat the P4P best and retire and go out with a bang.
If Manny wins however, it would be a truly great victory. If he loses, he lost to a much bigger modern great, so no shame in losing.
If Oscar loses he will look a bit stupid.

Re: Mismatch that is ODH v Manny Pac
When I first heard about the fight, I felt the same way. Now, the more I think about it, I think Pac is going to win. Oscar is old, on the decline, has stamina issues, and he hasn't had to make 147 in years. The weight alone is going to be a huge factor, and when I considering everything else in Pac's favor (speed, youth, stamina, everything except power) I see Pac beating Oscar.
-
Re: Mismatch that is ODH v Manny Pac
from what i heard on fightnews.com oscar isnt retireing. and manny is gonna win.
-
Re: Mismatch that is ODH v Manny Pac
When the fight was announced/signed, Hoya was at -250 and PAC at +200. Now the odds were something like Hoya at -200 while PAC at +150.
I think the odds will become closer as the fight comes nearer.
News like PAC knocking down his 5' 11" middleweight sparring partners will even up the odds or turn to PAC's favor... ;D

Re: Mismatch that is ODH v Manny Pac
This will be a nice 3 round send off for DLH!

This is why it's a meaningless fight, If ODLH wins, it's because he is so much bigger. If PAC wins it's because ODLH is too far past it.
Translation: POINTLESS
I understand people getting into the hype saying this is a mega fight, but it's not, it's a mega event that is completely pointless in the scheme of things for boxing. I know Saddoboxer, brings up this fight regardless of thread topic, and he has made it clear he is stoked, but for me, it WILL be on the sports book, but I WON'T be watching.
I personally hope that ODLH flattens PAC within 3 rounds so everyone can see how pointless this fight is.

Very well put, KS. I especially agree on how the fight's pointless in boxing's scheme of things. However, we hope for different outcomes, and here's how I would reword the last sentence more to my liking:
I personally hope that Manny flattens Oscar, embarassing him for taking on the much smaller man, and not someone like Margarito or Cotto, in his own weight division.
;D

I hope that happens so I can revel in the sweet tears of the Pac fans.

Re: Mismatch that is ODH v Manny Pac
I'm hoping that PAC can defeat Hoya in a more convincing way (a UD will do) than what PBF did to Hoya... so that PAC can call PBF out of retirement... ;) So there you go, the meaning of this Hoya-PAC fight...
.

So you are saying beating a fighter who should be retired in order to get a fight with someone that is retired has meaning? You are more delusional than I thought.

So you mean, you're not interested to see a PBF-PAC fight IF (BIG IF) PAC beats Hoya more convincingly than what PBF did to Hoya?
The fight between the present no. 1 P4P against the one before him is I guess a very meaningful and interesting fight...
Of course we all know that PBF is not yet in that retireable stage... He's still very prime...

This fight was made because De La Hoya is way past it and has diminished skills. Mayweather is still in tip-top form. This was what I was afraid of. If Pac somehow wins this fight, then a Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight would happen and I KNOW Pac can't beat Floyd.
Pac really needs to go back to lightweight and fight Marquez. This is the fight everyone wants. Then maybe go back to Hatton and call it a career.
BTW! Oscar already stated this isn't his last fight. His new quote is "I think I have 2 to 3 fights left in me." I forgot which location it was but he stated this in one the media press tour stops.

OK... If a PAC convincing win over Hoya can't flush out Floyd from retirement then I guess we will just settle for PAC-Hatton... ;)

Don't need ODLH for that, I would much rather see him fight Hatton anyway. OR try to conquer the lightweight division.

PAC needs ODLH as one of his remaining big fights... PAC will be retiring next year so after ODLH, I think he will only consider the other big fights... PBF, Hatton, JMM are the only big fights (in that order) I can think of...

Ive said it in two other threads so far I think, but I wanna make sure, because no one seems to be with me.
Pac KO De la Hoya inside 9

Re: Mismatch that is ODH v Manny Pac
Bookies don't consider it as a mismatch...
Oscar De La Hoya (-200) Manny Pacquiao (150)
Hoya vs. PAC is a lot closer compared to these other fights... ;D
Mikkel Kessler (-2300) Danilo Hausler (900)
Chad Dawson (-250) Antonio Tarver (240)
Kelly Pavlik (-275) Bernard Hopkins (275)
Joe Calzaghe (-300) Roy Jones Jr (275)
Jermain Taylor (-500) Jeff Lacy (425)
Ricky Hatton (-250) Paul Malignaggi (225)

The thing is I can just see De La Hoya not pushing as hard as he can because he'll want to put on a good fight and make the fight last until late in the fight. I still think he could have done PBF if he would have jabbed more

You could say along the same lines though that Ivan Calderon would have all the advantages over Oscar except power. Are you forgetting size? When is the last time Oscar had to worry about a featherweight hitting him? Of course a goof would say Mayweather but Oscar knew Floyd would never rely on being able to hurt him to win. Manny would absolutely need to be able to at least slow Oscar down with his shots, while taking some clean punches of his own. That's what I think is so unlikely to happen in this fight. Pac just doesn't have the slickness to transend such a size advantage and outbox a far harder hitter, and he's damn sure not going to win a shootout. He needs to at least be on par with his opponents from a physicality standpoint in order to be dominant imo. DLH is just to much bigger and stronger.

While he says he is retired, he is about as stable as Pride of Boston's last girlfriend. It would not surprise me at all to see him come out if any of these crazy hypotheticals would play out.

Re: Mismatch that is ODH v Manny Pac
I admit that I'm the biggest pAcfan here. Many can attest to that but I really can't see Manny winning this fight. Oscar will win this with hard shots around the 7th to 9th round. I hope I'm wrong.:-\
Btw, Oscar won't be knocking Manny in the early rounds even if he can do it..... that would be anticlimactic for him.... and it would just confirm the popular opinion in the boxing world that this is a mismatch. Oscar is not that dumb to lose his credibility via an early KO.
I am contented with the fact that my boy gets a shot at ODLH and be truly known throughout the world.... of course, with at least $20 Million after that, Manny is a true winner in this fight win or lose.

You quoted the wrong person, I didn't say that.
But what fighter would turn down the payday that comes along with an ODH fight? Hell, I'd fight him and he'd probably put me in a coma.
