Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador? Official Poll!!!
Mijares vs. Darchinyan is a fight that requires the full attention of serious boxing fans everywhere when they meet on November 1 in a unification battle. Mijares (35-3-2, 13 KOs) is coming off a third-round destruction of aged Chatchai Sasakul, while Darchinyan (30-1-1, 24 KOs), won his title after knocking out Dimitri “The Baby” Kirilov in the fifth round in August
If ever there was a Matador vs. Bull fight, this is it. Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan is a pressure fighter with bricks in his gloves. However, his "weird" style style can allow a highly skilled foe like Mijares to use fast counters amd sharp uppercuts to exploit at will.
Mijares last tasted defeat in 2002 and is on a 26-fight undefeated streak. A winner over highly regarded Jorge Arce, he beat Jose Navarro in February and gave a clinic in the process. Exhibiting old school defensive moves that were superb and a punch volume that was off the charts, he schooled the equally busy Navarro whose face looked like a cheese and sausage pizza at the end.:o In the worse score card I have ever seen, one of the judges had it 108-120 in favor of Navarro (meaning he won every round!). Disgraceful is not the right word to describe this mondo bizarro scoring.
Vic likely will stalk and try to take Mijares out with his superior power. However, the Mexican will use his tool chest of technical skills to keep "The Raging Bull" at bay.
I do think Vic’s style is made to order for Mijares thus making this a potentially easy fight and setting up a mega battle with Fernando Montiel. Hell, how can a slow fighter who telegraphs his punches and fights in such an unusual manner beat a slickster like Mijares?
On the other hand, if Vic can use his jab effectively and avoid bull rushes and over reaching, he has a shot.
And one thing Vic does have that the Mexican slickster lacks is a punchers chance. :o

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
Mijares will make Darchinyan look like the flawed, one-dimensional fighter that he is. I doubt Mijares will stop him, but he will outpoint him easily.

Yea, dont see it going any other way myself.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
Of course Vic has a punchers chance, but Mijares is really gonna be able to capitalize on Darchinyan's awkward stance like noone else has been able to, and when Vic does his bullrushes, he will be met with stiff counters. If Vic can keep his energy late in the fight, he may be able to land something meaningful, but this fight is gonna go rounds.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
I think Mijares will exploit Darchinyan's over reaching and porous balance at every turn...literally. His counter accuracy, mobility and on point uppercut will crack and boil the crab.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
I'm betting the house on Mijares to school Vic.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
For a slick boxer Mijares gets hit a lot... that's something you want to avoid against a puncher like Vic! Add in the fact that he can't punch then its gonna be hard to keep Darchinyan off!
I remember Mick saying that Kirilov would be one guy to give Mijares problems. Then when Vic destroyed Dimitri & made him look like his nickname (The Baby) Mick comes out & says that it wasn't the old Kirilov.
Well Mick you better hope the best Mijares hows up cause if Kawashima can hurt your man & Navarro can connect cleanly then you sure as hell know Vics gonna!!!

Mijares get's hit but look at the guys who have made contact with him.
They are fighters with fast hands the ones who don't have fast hands hardly touch him.
Vics not know for speed, Mijares will be able to bob & weave and make him miss. I can def. see Vic landing a shot here and there but it wont go past that. Mijares at his best is something special.
Mijares needs to fight his fight and do his work in the gym.
Your right Galaxy I did say that about Kirilov that was last year when Kirilov was actually fighting at his best since then he's look FAAAAR from what he once was in the ring when he was active and in shape... Fighting once in 2006 and once in 2007 wont do you well.
But anyways what I do see here is and I'll say it again Mijares will soundly and very convincingly beat Vic. The fight will be very similar to the Arce fight.
Did I tell you I might attend this fight depending on how good of a card they can put together?

It would be a great fight to attend if as you say the undercard stacks up.
A lot of people thought Cotto was something special & look what Margarito did to him! I'm not comparing Vic & Tony just stating a fact that 'that is why they fight the fights.'
Sure Mijares will be the favorite but you've already seen numerous upsets this year to support that statement.
I'll be supporting Vic cause like you I back my favs even if they are up against it...

Outstanding observation. Navarro did get to him quite a bit.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
I haven't been able to watch much of either fighter but from what I gather it'll be an example of the old adage: at the top level great boxing beats great brawling. I've watched Vic a few times and I'm really unimpressed with his rush in and flurry style. It seems if you can move and time your jab for 12 rounds there's not much to him.
Fighters with experience like Vic has don't know how to fight discouraged. They haven't been in the ring where the A plan doesn't work and they don't have a B plan. I'm guessing it'll look like the Arce Mijares fight where the puncher never gets going and hangs on for a decision loss.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
It was Vic's most impressive win last time out against Kirolov, Mijares is a different kind of fish and will be hard to catch. Mijares will win a wide UD here with Vic's only chance a puncher's one, anything can happen in boxing but i doubt Mijares let's him tee off enough to cause him any real threat. Mijares will be watchful but he is to slick a boxer for Vic.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
Well i do not know much about these fighters but i would like to see Mijares to get hit by a bomb by Darchinyan and knocked out. Just to see what people be saying the next day like he has no skill and he just got a lucky shot like he always does i think it be a good read.

I don't think any of us here would say 'Vic lands a lucky shot' he has every chance of landing a big shot and taking Mijares out, i think Mijares knows this and he will be slick enough and clever enough to avoid it happening. Vic is good, no doubt and he is probably the biggest hitter in this division, it's just that he also gets hit frequently, his style is ugly and awkward, he is not easy to watch sometimes. Mijares is top class and should have the answers, if Vic should win i will be the first to congratulate him. At the same time i would not be surprised if Mijares embarrasses him.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
Darchinyan vows KO!
By Ray Wheatley -- World of Boxing
IBF super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan is confident he will knock out WBA/WBC super flyweight champion Cristian Mijares when they do battle on November 1st at the Home Depot Centre in Carson, California. "I promise I will knock him out," Darchinyan said. "I've said that many times before big fights, [Luis] Maldonado, Irene Pacheco, [Dimitri] Kirilov - I knocked them out. When I promise I will knock someone out, I keep my promise." Darchinyan continued, "Of course it was my dream to become undisputed champion. I'm not saying if I win, I'm saying when I win this fight - after that, I will become one of the greatest fighters from Australia. I love that idea, and I want to become one of the greatest fighters in the history of boxing. [Mijares] is a smart fighter, a good fighter, but when I catch him with my punch, it won't be like in his other fights." Darchinyan is managed by Elias Nasser and lives in Sydney, Australia. He represented Armenia at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and turned professional under the guidance of Hall of Famer Jeff Fenech. He captured the IBF flyweight title by defeatiing Irene Pacheco and lost it to Nonito Donaire.
 :lolhaha:  :lolhaha:
What an ass clown :jester-new: ... When I promise a KO I get the KO...
Yeaaahhh!! Uuuuummmm.. There is the Nonito fight. :-\

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
Mijares will be the boss. He won't let Vic dictate the pace.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
All i am saying is that you very smart with the lower divsion make a good pick most of the time all i was saying is that i like to see Darchinyan win. I would be a good shock and upset i like that once in a while and that is all i was saying i hopeing for a upset to ruin the plans lol i think it be good.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
Vic is a pure puncher! Thats his game!
He leaves openings... plenty of them but only one opponent so far has been able capitalize on them & walk away with a victory!
Mijares ain't got the power to do what Donaire did! 12 rounds is a long time to avoid bombs from one of the games best punchers!
Credit has to be given to both guys for making this fight. They have both shown a willingness to fight top competition.
Although a bunch of trinkets will be on the line the winner will not become champion... a fight with Montiel will be huge in 09 to fill the vacant championship!!!
-
Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
I think Darchinyan learned a lot from the Donaire KO loss and from the Gorres knock downed... He impressively defeated Kirilov (a relatively good boxer) by KO in his last fight...
Just remember this Señores, sometimes the bull wins...
.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
Although I'm always partial to the Armo, I feel he'll have a tough time this time out. Mijares on the cards.

Look for me i kinda hoping Darchinyan wins and also how is Mijares in the top ten which i find funney and he is over Cotto as well to. I have hardly even heard of the guy who has he beat to deserve his spot on the list. Any how seems like Darchinyan is a underdog come on bull i want to see the matador die tonight lets hope he can pull it off.

Mijares is an excellent technician! He hasn't lost since 2002 when he was still very young. He dominated Arce who was ranked #2 at flyweight by Ring mag at the time & Munoz who was #1 Jr.Bantam when they fought, pretty much had his way with Navarro #8 & Kawashima dropped him heavily but could only managed a split dec loss & a ko loss.

Re: Darchinyan vs. Mijares. Will Vic Gore the Matador?
Never one to overlook but Mijares/Montiel MUST happen.Mijares is a sharp hitter and can box very well.I honestly think he will find Vic often after a dumpy start, let him fall in & uppercut, right & stand him straight off up for win.Vic has legit awkward power, strength & determination but Mijares should concentrate on countering sharp/often & moving out all night.

Gotta love all the shit talking Vics doing... ;D
