Roach exuded confidence and went to the extent of saying “I don’t know if I am crazy but I can’t see any way that Oscar can last with Manny Pacquiao. The way Manny is attacking his opponents. He is very focused, working very hard and I am really confident. Maybe too much.”
Roach continued “the way Manny is preparing for this fight I have never seen him like this. He has moved down to 152 pounds and you should see his body. Not an ounce of fat on him. He is very strong. Everything is right on schedule.”
The two-time “Trainer of the Year” said they have figured out that they have toget past De La Hoya’s jab adding “who in the world doesn’t know we have to get past the jab and go to his body.?” But that, in the eyes of Roach “isn’t a problem.”
Ive never liked this matchup. DLH would be a good joker if you put some makeup on him. Anyway, I hope Pac wins but its a lot more hoping than expecting.
Ortiz is with GBP right? Maybe I'm cynical but this could increase interest in the DLH/Pac fight by making DLH seem vulnerable and at the same time hype up Victor Ortiz which is necessary since they seem to have forgotten that he actually needs to have fights. In a ring.

Anyone else notice Freddie Roach's fighters have lost everytime they've been featured on a 24/7 series? Oscar lost against Floyd and Bernard lost to Joe.
Roach should be less worried about the Night of the Jab and more worried about Oscar's left hook
Was there a Hopkins-Calzaghe 24/7? I only watched the Hatton-Mayweather one.

This is the same Roach after all who claimed Isreal Vazquez shouldn't have been allowed to take the first rematch with Rafael Marquez because he was slurring his words and couldn't breathe properly still.
The same guy who said Bernard Hopkins shouldn't be fighting Kelly Pavlik because he was losing it and kept going to the wrong corner in the Calzaghe fight, a possible sign of being punchy.
The same guy who said James Toney should retire because his pitutary gland was fucked and that he was in serious danger of being hurt.
Now he says Oscar is being beat up in sparring. :rolleyes:
Ok so what's the common theme here. Well how about this. All four of them were trained by Roach for big fights.
Vazquez vs Marquez 1
Hopkins vs Calzaghe
Toney vs Peter 1 & 2 (and a lot before)
Oscar vs Floyd
All four lost under Freddie Roach..
All four then let Freddi Roach go, his golden eggs being taken away from him.
Then Freddie always comes up with a reason why that fighter is finished and really shouldn't be fighting any more.
Also all 4 have gone on to win impressively without him afterwards, although Toney's win over Rahman was later ruled a no contest.

Haha yeah it's pretty ridiculous when you lay it out like that. I always thought Freddie was a good man and he just legitimately got worried for his fighters, perhaps overly, which wouldn't neccesarily be a negative on him... But I really hadnt thought much about his track record behind such statements. Then again, in this case it isn't neccesarily sour grapes as his job is still to train Manny which means doing everything to ensure he is confident of winning, regardless what you have to say about the other guy.Quote:

Hopkins is 43, whether he is getting hit a lot or not he has still been fighting for 20+ years, and that is bad for your brain, especially at the top level of the sport.
James Toney gets hit a lot, and many of the guys don't get ailments from the sport until later on.
Its like people who tan a lot or eat lots of sugar, the body works in a way that it will affect you down the road, Muhammad ali didn't have Parkinson's right after his last fight. I guarantee half the guys Roach is worried about will have significant brain problems as they got older.

Freddie Roach is a great trainer, he did everything he could with Oscar, but it was Oscar's fault he didn't follow through with the game plan.
Hopkins in better shape against Wright then he did against Calzaghe. I think Roach did a good job with Hopkins.
What he has done with Pacquaio is amazing, he has made Pacquaio into a very good somewhat technical fighter from an all out bomber.

That was just a countdown the 24/7 follows them around week to week and has several installments.
That's right because that was the ridiclous countdown where they said Joe punched 8 times per second and he was standing there with his hands like an inch from the bag just touching it as many times as possible.
Just may be Oscars way of hyping his fighter. He has said that Victor Ortiz has the ability to become the next "Golden Boy".
