It looks like Michael Jennings might be Cotto's comeback opponent. So much for a Berto or a Cintron. Thoughts?

In that thread I said Cotto needed to fight anyone of these guys;
Soto-Karass, Hlatswayo, Sasaki (really far fetched) or Lujan.
In that same thread I said more then anything Cotto needs a confidence booster. He needs to be faced with the perfect opponent that can last with him and he can get his confidence back with.
I don't think he needs a Berto fight as a comeback fight.

Micheal Jennings is a lovely man great bloke met him numerous times, but he is no way near Cottos league and i see this as a beatdown for about 4/5 rounds then Cotto stopping him, Jennings is a game fighter and will fight to the end, but Jennings biggest and toughest opponent was either Young Mutley or Bradley Pryce??? Exactly not exactly great warm up fights for a guy like Cotto, good look to Micheal i hope he is paid well but he has fought absolutley nowhere near this level, hes probably not even the best fighter in Britain at 147 i think Kell Brook would beat him possibly Craig Watson.Quote:

Just to see how he looks/feels there and see if theres a future there.
Unless he's having trouble making weight, I'd like to see him at 147. It's a deeper division with better competition, and at the same time I'd worry about how well he'd stand up to a big puncher at 154. He might just be too short for the weight.Quote:

Thats pretty much a carbon copy of what I been saying all along, Clottey is a big tough mofo that isint going to get broken down by Cotto, when he cant break you down his plan B is to go backward, as we saw from SSM which he boxed beautifully and peppered Shane, since Shane was running into Cotto's punches a at that point ,against Margarito he got torn to pieces.. Miguel Cotto could wear down Joshua Clottey late though with body shots, remember Joshua Clottey has suspect stamina JT. Where as fighters like Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito, have always had excellent stamina. And always finish strong late in fights.Quote:

I doubt it at this point, Cotto would have to eat counters to dig the body, and Cotto already sketchy chin probably has a huge dent in it, I have watched that fight over 10 times and you can see Margarito literally beat the fighter out of Cotto, its all over his body and all over his face. he quit!!! for whatever reason, family, health, self-preservation I dont blame him or fault him for it because there is a bigger picture.. He boxed beautifully dished out a world of hurting on Margarito, and I guess thats the irony of it all watching Cotto get his heart stolen and beaten to a pulp while seemingly cruising to a UDQuote:

But i would like to see Joshua Clottey get a shot against a top Welterweight soon. Andre Berto vs Joshua Clottey is a mouth watering match up to me.
I'd never seen Michael Jennings before and the first thing I thought of was a guy I went to school with by the same name. I realized they couldn't be the same because this kid was probably 147 pounds at least in the 5th grade (10-11 years old).
If Cotto needs to have some confidence back than Jennings seem to be the right guy. Saw Jenning's resume and he seems like any other guy that Cotto has faced in the past (journeyman, not a big puncher, etc.).
