Latest Calzaghe interview : "that's all folks."

"They're talking about Chad Dawson, man. He's a light-heavyweight, he just won a couple of decent fights, he beat an old man in [Antonio] Tarver. What's the point? It doesn't get me excited. I'm 36, not 30 years old, so I'm getting on a bit. I know there's nobody out there but I don't want to make a decision at the moment.




"To be honest, I haven't loved boxing for a few years now. Dad knows the score. He's had to kick me up the arse more and more. So I've been fighting twice a year, when I used to be fighting all the time, training constantly, have a month off, maybe two months off. I spoke to my mum last night. She's really happy as well. She's been asking me to quit boxing for about 15 to 20 years. Ever since I started boxing, she's been asking me to quit.




"I will walk away from boxing easily enough. My dad's got a great gym, I want to help out with that, maybe manage. I've got my promoter's licence now, so I will stay involved in boxing in a different way. It's not a case of I can't fight any more. I want to get out at the top. I believe I'm at the top now and there's a good chance I'm going to call it a day."

OK a slight exaggeration but it does sound like he's finished. I hope he is too, it's a perfect time to retire.

Too bad, I'd love to see him fight more, but if the fire's gone then there is no point in continuing.

I think Calzaghe should retire. The only match out there that would mean anything is a rematch against Hopkins. But honestly, he just beat him, why would there be any point in a rematch? It was controversial but Joe won't bite...

I hope he will, he has done everything he needs to, except the rematch with Hopkins, but he will never take it, and I don't like how he is hating on Chad Dawson, but I can understand why he see no point in fighting Chad.

Calzaghe's point, although subtle, was that Dawson is a young natural light heavyweight who hasn't established himself enough to fight Joe. Joe is a natural super middleweight. His last two victories have come against guys who are his size and his age. Dawson would be too much risk for too little reward.

He is an all-time great and he should retire. He is probably the best ever at volume punching.

He's the best at punching arms and gloves;)

Do you mean that Joe would be 46 and 1 because Dawson would tire and do a Hopkins of cowardly crawling around and pretending to be low punched and Joe gets diqualified;D;D;D;D;D;D;D;D;D;D;D

If joe retires good on him I would love to see him fight dawson cause he still seems to have it in him, but I completely can see why he thinks there is no point in that fight. As for him hittin elbows and gloves and slapping it seemed joe had quite a pop on his punches and was landing some nice shots, it wasn't just volume.

If calzaghe wants to stay on, has the hunger to fight on abd beat people he hasn;t fought then Dawson should be number 1 on his list. If he has had enough of boxing then i don't think Dawson has doen enough to be a reason for an ATG to cary on when he has had enough.

I think Calzaghe will wait until after the de la hoya-Pac fight, after pac gets sparked and beaten bad the ring might finaly give him the p4p #1 slot - and that would be the perfect way to walk out. Unles they don;t update it and keep JMM as number 2, although i don't see that happening.

If Calzaghe retires who are you going to start threads about in future? There may well not be a British boxer in the rest of your lifetime good enough for you to be constantly wrong about.
