You will call me crazy, but I think Roy has one big fight available

Vs none of there than Bernard Hopkins.
Before you say I am totally nuts hear me out

Look at the triangle that was Hopkins, Jermain Taylor, and Pavlik

1.Taylor gave Hopkins all sorts of troubles because he didn't rush forward, he used his youth, speed, and reflexes and just allowed himself to react to what Hopkins did which threw Hopkins off and gave him fits.
2. I will discard their first fight because Jermain Taylor punched himself out in it, but in their second fight Pavlik used high output, and pressure which is the achilles heal of Jermain Taylor, he isn't good at fighting, I also thought Winky Wright beat him soundly with the same approach, but people had Jermain landing punches I definitely didn't.
3. Hopkins nullified a lot of what Winky, and beat him in a close fight, but the more important thing is he took Pavlik to school, he out boxed him, out fought him, out everything Pavlik.

The point I am making is styles can make fights, guys who seem even on paper in many ways going into a fight actually in some cases turned into landslides one way or another.

I think Calzaghe was the worst style regardless of what shape Roy was in for him to face, Its obvious the thing that has fallen the most for him is output. While Bernard is so elusive and sneaky he could deal with Calzaghe's huge output much more effectively, while Roy was kept on the ropes, but once again Calzaghe didn't land a whole lot of clean punches except when Roy had his hands down and he backed into the ropes. I also saw Roy's speed the few times he punched like in the 5th round, he was able to land effectively on Calzaghe, arguably easier than Bernard.

The point I am making is Bernard can throw a lot of punches if you come at him, and he isn't forced into complete defensive mode, I think Calzaghe and Jermain Taylor were too quick for him to counter consistently the whole night, but Kelly was slower and I think Hopkins was able to see the punches coming.

I still think unless Bernard can pull massive amount of punches out of his belt that Roy is a bad matchup for him if Roy doesn't get backed up the whole fight. I think this would be a boring fight for most, but it would be a close fight.

Why was Jermain Taylor as effective against Bernard as Calzaghe if not more so? Because that explosive speed is what really screws up Bernard, because it doesn't rely on a tempo like Calzaghe does. Roy Jones Jr isn't a rhythmic type fighter, he fights in spurts like Bernard does, he also attempts to disrupt his opponent's rhythm, and I think they offset eachother to a large degree, I want to see this fight made, but I doubt Hopkins would take it now... a pity.

Roy is shot man. It's not a matter of Calzaghe having a style for ROy, roy just wont punch.

Look at the Tarver Rubber match.. look at the fight with Tito.

Why does he need to punch that much against Hopkins? Taylor punched like 300 times in the first fight against Hopkins? I think thats exactly why Hopkins is a good opponent for him, it actually measures their skill. I think he is shot in terms of physically hanging with guys that throw a lot of punches, but that isn't Hopkins anymore, minus the fight against Pavlik and Wright :D, but seriously for the last 10 years he hasn't foughten like that.

Did you watch Hopkins Pavlik? Bhop was the aggressor.
After Roys last performances and clearly showing that he can't handle any form of offense, do you think Bhop will show roy the respect he did in their first fight? l

I love Bernard, but don't get carried away, Bernard only was the aggressor in the last few rounds, the rest of the time it was Pavlik's forward movement that allowed Bernard to get largely as many punches off as he did, and Pavlik is way easier to hit than Roy.

When was the last time Hopkins fought someone as shot as Roy?
Give me a break. Hopkins entire career right now is based on fighting the fight that is needed to beat his opponent. The blueprint on roy jones has been drawn 3 times already. Do you honestly think Hopkins will fight the same Respectful fight he fought against roy the first time? When they first fought hopkins had NO good opponents on his record. Roy was 21-0 and the first undefeated or legit competition he had faced. They both showed each other tremendous respect.

Hopkins won't succumb to that type of fight again. Get real man. Roy won't even punch anymore! Hopkins will KILL HIM. It's a figure of speech, by the way. Just like Hopkins KILLED kelly Pavlik and KILLED Antonio Tarver. Those were slaughters imo.

Roy has nothing left. NOTHING.

Watching him fight Joe was like the last time I watched Evander fight. He can see the openings but just can't throw the punches anymore. It must be supremely frustrating for Roy. It wasn't a lack of openings that made Roy lose the Calzaghe fight, it was the fact that he just doesn't have the skill or the will to fight that he used to.

As much as it pains me, Hopkins would beat Jones if they fought now. Handily too. Jones would just lay on the ropes and take a beating, watching openings go by and not offering a shot. Hopkins' style has allowed him to age remarkably well. Jones' style is exactly the opposite. Couple that with his gunshy nature since the KOs and you have a fighter who is the definition of finished.

It's over for Roy. He needs to retire while he still has his faculties. He's done enough to be considered great.

so wat you are saying is that you think Roy can beat bhop as of now??

I didn't say Roy wins, I am saying that it would be tougher for Bernard than you guys are making out, you guys are acting like Bernard is 28, HE ISN'T. He doesn't throw a lot of punches usually anymore, and Roy is hard to hit cleanly anyways.

The reason he couldn't react is because Joe Calzaghe is so fast, and he still countered Joe a few times... He isn't as shot as some people would make you believe, I predicted this would happen because Roy doesn't get off enough, physically he is fine, he still has the speed, he was never tired against Calzaghe, he just didn't QUITE have the reflexes to deal wtih Joe's arsenal and SPEED. Speed and output are the key factors.

BUT Joe is an offensive fighter which is the exact opposite of what Bernard has become, I believe this is a cerebral fight, and I also feel Bernard would want to prove he is the better fighter by trying to outbox Roy.

If Roy was getting hit cleanly at range by Calzaghe all night I would agree he was shot, but Joe couldn't hit him at range unless Roy's back was against the ropes or with the occasional jap that also landed on Bernard. 80% of the scoring punches Calzaghe landed on Roy were to the body.

What I am saying is that how long has been since Bernard consistently came forward, he didn't even do that against Oscar De La Hoya, its not in Bernard's nature anymore to come forward, and if he did at this stage I think it leaves him a lot more open then he would like.

Roy is definitely slower than he once was, but by Bernard's own admission Roy is still twice as fast as him.

You can go ahead and say I am wrong, but lets look back and see how many people thought Hopkins could totally outbox Pavlik.

I don't make predictions out of craziness, I make it out of what I see. I saw Calzaghe outpunch Roy on Saturday, I didn't see a higher level of skill from Calzaghe, I thought they both made eachother look bad when they had their hands down, I don't think Calzaghe looked good in the middle of the ring at all against Roy, and Roy looked poor off the ropes because he didn't throw anything.

If Bernard can keep Roy on the ropes for sure he would win, but the last 8 years would indicate that Bernard isn't that guy anymore, and that he definitely is the KO puncher that would take Roy out.

How many times did B-Hop promise knockouts, how many times has he promised exciting fights. Just because he looked exciting agaisnt Pavlik doesn't mean he will look exciting against lets say Chad Dawson. He is going to lose if he tries to fight too offensively against a good boxer, and he knows that. His ability to win especially at LHW against legitimate LHW's is moving and countering and occasionally gaining their respect on the inside.

He threw only 530 punches against Pavlik. Roy threw 475 against Joe Calzaghe. Bernard threw 468 punches against Calzaghe and landed 127 of them by compubox while Roy landed 149. That is a higher punch output and a higher landing percentage against Joe which I saw as well, the only difference is that Calzaghe was allowed to throw about 300 more punches against Roy, but onceagain I felt he didn't land solid punches very often against either of them, but Roy was infront of him more, also Roy threw 482 punches against Tito Trinidad.

Roy landed plenty against Joe, it just wasn't enough to overcome the fact that hte last minute of every round he had his back against the rope, that is what people remember, but they don't acknowledge that Roy gave Joe a decent fight, and outlanded Joe when they were boxing in the middle of the ring which Joe clearly didn't want to happen, and he used his will and Roy's lack of will to do so, but I don't see Bernard coming forward with the same mentality as Joe like I've said.

If Joe doesn't want a rematch with Hopkins (and why would he?), then Hopkins doesn't have any fights out there that would make him as much money as a fight against Roy.

So I think a Hopkins fight is out there for Roy. I would make Bernard a solid favorite however.

1. Every fighter Promises knockouts. Its what people want to hear.... so what if they dont? James Toney always promises a knockout, LOL!
2. Everyone promises exciting fights. Do you think anyone will say " So, be sure to tune int.. we're going to put on the worst show ever". Stop expecting people to do what they say they will LOL. They are only selling you the fight..but when the bell rings, they will do what they have to to win.
3. Roy doesn't have it anymore bro. I see your point, I do. Stylistically he does have a chance. But he isn't HUNGRY and will not make an extra effort to win fights. It's all in his demeanor. Although it seems like it is there stylistcally, it isn't. Roy won't commit to a win.
4. Training in Philadelphia we see Bernard regularly. He's contemplating a move to heavyweight as his last fight for a title.

You make a decent case. I wouldnt mind seeing Jones against Hopkins. Hopkins would be favourite, but it would be a much closer fight than Calzaghe: Jones was. I think Jones Jr. would certainly do much better Pavlik ended up doing too.

To win fights you got to throw punches.

I posted on this yesterday, I'd like to see it happen personally, nice way for both fighters to bow out.

There's little risk of being hurt by B Hop it will be a slow paced tactical fight for the most part.

Ideally Hopkins and Jones have their little retirment party and Calzaghe can get it on with Dawson to decide the true light heavyweight champion

Calzaghe IMO isn't in the picture or least I hope not or he will destroy another weight class by beating its best fighter in Chad Dawson then retiring anyways. Chad IMO isn't quite at the stage in his career where he will have delt with enough to deal with Calzaghe. I think he showed his deire to fight and his heart against Glen Johnson, but its Calzaghe's speed along wtih his output that make him so difficult.

Still people are saying Roy doesn't punch, but that is being hypocritical because Hopkins has had the lowest output of any champion maybe ever. When he is fighting his fight he averages like 30 punches a round.

I still contest that if Joe beat Bernard it was on output and he definitely beat Roy on output, the difference is, is that Roy was there all night for Joe to throw punches at while Hopkins wasn't. Hopkins is a great fighter, but Jermain Taylor like I have said due to his more explosive speed and actually putting power on his punches limited Hopkins so much, even in their second fight when Bernard said he would come forward and knock Jermain out.

Look at the triangle that was Hopkins, Jermain Taylor, and Pavlik

1.Taylor gave Hopkins all sorts of troubles because he didn't rush forward, he used his youth, speed, and reflexes and just allowed himself to react to what Hopkins did which threw Hopkins off and gave him fits.

I will discard their first fight because Jermain Taylor punched himself out in it, but in their second fight Pavlik used high output, and pressure which is the achilles heal of Jermain Taylor, he isn't good at fighting, I also thought Winky Wright beat him soundly with the same approach, but people had Jermain landing punches I definitely didn't.
3. Hopkins nullified a lot of what Winky, and beat him in a close fight, but the more important thing is he took Pavlik to school, he out boxed him, out fought him, out everything Pavlik.

The point I am making is styles can make fights, guys who seem even on paper in many ways going into a fight actually in some cases turned into landslides one way or another.

I think Calzaghe was the worst style regardless of what shape Roy was in for him to face, Its obvious the thing that has fallen the most for him is output. While Bernard is so elusive and sneaky he could deal with Calzaghe's huge output much more effectively, while Roy was kept on the ropes, but once again Calzaghe didn't land a whole lot of clean punches except when Roy had his hands down and he backed into the ropes. I also saw Roy's speed the few times he punched like in the 5th round, he was able to land effectively on Calzaghe, arguably easier than Bernard.

The point I am making is Bernard can throw a lot of punches if you come at him, and he isn't forced into complete defensive mode, I think Calzaghe and Jermain Taylor were too quick for him to counter consistently the whole night, but Kelly was slower and I think Hopkins was able to see the punches coming.

I still think unless Bernard can pull massive amount of punches out of his belt that Roy is a bad matchup for him if Roy doesn't get backed up the whole fight. I think this would be a boring fight for most, but it would be a close fight.

Why was Jermain Taylor as effective against Bernard as Calzaghe if not more so? Because that explosive speed is what really screws up Bernard, because it doesn't rely on a tempo like Calzaghe does. Roy Jones Jr isn't a rhythmic type fighter, he fights in spurts like Bernard does, he also attempts to disrupt his opponent's rhythm, and I think they offset eachother to a large degree, I want to see this fight made, but I doubt Hopkins would take it now... a pity.

Look at the stats, Bernard isn't exactly Antonio Margarito.

This is just a dreadful idea, just dreadful, throw in Byrd/Williamson 2 as the co feature and find a spot for Zahir Raheem and Rocky Juarez and boxing would be officially dead.

I'd rather watch Nascar with Dick Cheney, I may go on a neg repping spree just cause this thought has now officially crossed my mind.

Thats fine if you can't appreciate real boxing, instead of just watching punches being thrown in large volumes, but some of us can.

Haha, I'm a huge Hopkins fan, top five all time. This would be a trainwreck, two guys staring at each other for 12 rounds, occasionally joining in a feint-off. Their styles could not be worse together.
