'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
Just read this article below about the Mosley/Mararito match up. Apparently Margarito was supposed to go into the office to sign the contract this week and didnt turn up and noone can find him to contact him????
Pomona’s “Sugar” Shane Mosley said he has agreed to a 50/50 split to set up a fight with world welterweight champion Antonio Margarito of Tijuana.
But Mosley also claims that Margarito has gone M.I.A.
“He’s hiding, nobody can find him,” Mosley said. “Someone told him the fight was on, but I’m hearing they can’t bring him in to agree to it.”
Boxing sources familiar with the situation say Margarito was invited to the Las Vegas offices of his promoter, Top Rank, last week, but failed to show. Money is the suspected cause of the delay, according to a source who asked to remain anonymous because he is not permitted to speak publicly.
Mosley, the former four-time champion who is coming off of a knockout victory over Ricardo Mayorga, said he’s already made a significant compromise by agreeing to the revenue split for the fight that's expected to occur in late January in Las Vegas.
“I’m more of the draw. I didn’t want to give him 50/50, but I wanted to get the fight done,” Mosley said. “I could’ve made more fighting [unbeaten Andre] Berto. I’ll bring most of the people to this fight.
If he holds out any longer, I’m going to change the prices on him.”
Mosley also confirmed an earlier ESPN.com report that he has parted ways with his trainer-father, Jack, who will help to develop the boxing skills of Mosley’s son, Shane Jr. Mosley said he will work with Nazim Richardson, who is Bernard Hopkins’ trainer.
“Nazim has agreed to work with me, and we’ll get up to Big Bear as soon as possible, as soon as we see what’s going on with Margarito,” Mosley said. “If he was thinking I’m afraid to fight him, he’s wrong. I’m ready to fight.”
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
Mosley should show respect, I don't like Margarito all that much, but he beat Cotto who beat Mosley, I know styles make fights, but the champion is the champion. Also it seems to me Margarito is pretty popular.
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
I dont think Mosley is being particularly disrespectful, he just wants to fight. I hope this fight does get made because I think it could be very good. Mosely might be slightly past his best, but he could still make it very interesting. Its a pick 'em with the edge going to Margarito on recent form.

Why should Mosley show some respect, it was Margarito who said that Shane was "pissing his pants about fighting him and that he would put Shane into perminant retirement" and now is nowwhere to be seen.
Dont get me wrong as much as Mosley is my favourite fighter I think Margarito may have too much for him at this stage in his career but I still think it will be a good fight.
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
Sounds like boxings most 'feared' fighter is running scared.
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
Margarito scared ;D ?
Might be just practicing the old addage "Still is the master of unrest"
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
I loke Shane...always have...he was a great fighter in his prime and still is today...an ATG in my opp but with that being said...Right now he should steer clear of Margarito...and if not he should definatly not piss him off...EG- Kermit Cintron....Cintron is no Mosley I know but Shane is not what he used to be and Margarito would walk through anything he throws and give him a fair beating
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
Sounds like Margarito is angling for a renegotiation - I doubt either guy is scared of the other. I still have a hard time seeing Mosley handling Margarito at this stage of his career, but I'd love to see the fight.
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
Mosley is going to get want he wants,a fight.Let see him sit down and try to outslug Tony like he did measuring stick Mayorga :fight:.Anyone that thinks Margarito is hiding under the covers is way off the mark.
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
I think Tony is outta shape, uninterested in getting back in shape, and probably living lavishly in Mexico relaxing.
I am sure there's a lot of cocaine involved, too.
Some guy, who knew some guy, who knows this guy told me that. And, it's true too.

Some guy who knew a guy who knows this guy???
That is one of the STUPIDEST comments I have seen on these boards in a long, long time....Have some neg rep just for being an ASS!!!!
Whats next you going to tell us about your beautiful girlfriend who hottubs with you when not being a supermodel.....
But we would not know her because she is from Canada so there is no reason to give us her name....

So it's not disrespectful to have agreed in principal to a fight and not show up to sign the contract or make a call to turn it down? I think Mosley's comments are warranted regardless of who he's beaten. Think of it this way: Mosley would have nothing to say if Margarito had called or signed. As popular as you may think Margarito is, Mosley is by far the more known fighter. Mosley could have made as much fighting a much lesser abled fighter who would have been glad to take a 20/80 split or something like that.

Call me nuts, but I think Mayorga is a bigger puncher than Margarito. He can't match his output, though.
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
There are plenty of bigger punchers then Margarito including Mayorga among them. Margarito isn't a huge puncher, but he connects a lot against guys who aren't really good defensively or move a lot. Mosley does neither extraordinarily well so I think he will just be outpunched, but at least Margarito will be throwing real punches that are designed to do damage unlike Calzaghe.
I just don't think Mosley has the know how to effectively deal with punchers/brawlers. IMO he slugged it out way too much with Vargas when other guys with his athletic ability like Mayweather are much more adept at fighting the bigger guys. Mosley has always had troubles with it.

Mayorga is a bigger puncher but he is reckless and often swings for the fences hoping for the money maker to land.....He does not connect with that power on a regular enough basis...Margarito is more deliberate with his punches......Besides Mayorga does not have Tony's chin

Running scared:confused:...You sure your talking about Antonio Margarito?.....What is there to be scared of?...He just manhandled a guy that beat Mosley soundly....
The fight is signed.....Just a matter of waiting for the bell to ring and Mosley to get his ass handed to him....
I like Shane but he is past his best and not in the region of slugging with Tony right now
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
Margarito is not scared of anybody.
Shane will get into trouble in this fight. He can't help but brawl and that's not how to fight Margo!
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
...he probably got stuck in traffic
Re: 'Sugar' Shane Mosley asks: Where's Margarito?
Well i think it is rude that he would stand Shan Mosley up like that i be mad to if i show up and no ones there it would piss me off wouldn't you agree and i mean come i know Margrito fan that is rude though. As for the Cotto fight was close had it a draw some had Shane winning. Besides that you cant just look at one fight and say just based on that Margrito wins. To me i think Shane could win a ud i cant see Margrito stopping him not a KO artist at all and Shane taken shots from much stronger guys. And Margrito just as easy to hit Mayogra is if Shane hits and ties him up he may have a chance of winning but at the age 37 might just be to old but who knows i mean Bernard may have inspired the old guys i mean even Evander Holyfeild fighting for a belt again he is like 47 i think maybe a younger but still old might be the year of the old guys who knows.

True & true indeed & will only add that Mosley is lacking much of his earlier mobility and Tony, compared to erratic Mayorga ,is a far more capable & dedicated body puncher.Down the stretch I think he'll have Mosley sitting still with him off of accumulation, trying to "out tough" Margarito.Whoops.
