The WBO is Garbage

• Here's a classic example of why the sanctioning organizations are a pathetic joke and why fight fans, TV networks and many of my less educated fellow media members should try to ignore them as much as possible. Dzindziruk is the WBO's junior middleweight titleholder. He is healthy and just made a mandatory defense against Julio on Nov. 1. Yet, for no apparent reason, the WBO has sanctioned a Nov. 29 bout for an interim title between Paul Williams and Verno Phillips. There is no good reason why Williams-Phillips should be for an interim title. The WBO, of course, probably doesn't see it that way. All it sees is the chance to make a few extra bucks on the sanctioning fees.

I also saw that they rated Barrera number 1 at lightweight.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Ignore all sanctioning bodies. Their belts are meaningless. Only pay attention to the Ring belts and what your own eyes tell you.

Ring might just be the most corrupt of them all . I cant let a magazine owned by Oscar dicate to me who the champ is

I hate to do it, but I agree with Sweet pea ;). Oscar owns the Ring, yes, but at least they follow who beats who and linearize the champ. It makes a little more sense to me. Nobody's gonna come outta retirement from a loss ranked #1 on the Ring Mag Belt.

But yes, F the belts in the A. We know who the champ is.

The fighter makes the title....Not the other way around....

Thats why you will see most writers worth their salt refer to champions as belt holders now adays....

It has been a long time since the champion of a sanctioning body was actually the champion and not just a belt holder

Well I hate to see what Rafael says about the WBA especially at heavyweight...it's ridiculous

The WBO and Kronk seemed pretty close early on.The belts are such a mish mash now.It truely will cause migrans keeping track.Been said before,Fighters make themselves and give name to a belt,The belts are just along for the ride.

WBO, WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO, ABC, XYZ all the same...

WBC asking Pacquiao to pay $100,000 sanctioning fee for PAC's fight with Hoya... is garbage (before this, WBC pres. Sulaiman labeled the PAC-Hoya fight a farce).

$100,000 for sanctioning fee alone? That's already 3 or 4 times the total purse of JMM when he lost to Chris John...

The problem I have with ring magazine is that they had Casa as ring champion conveniently when he was about to fight a golden boy fighter in Marquez. Casa got his ass handed to him by a bum like Santa Cruz yet they still said he was champ but Campbell who beat the next big thing . . the undfeated unified champion in Diaz , is not recognised as the best ?! Gimme a break

Also sus that Pacs apparently the p4p champ according to that mag so isnt it covenient that when Oscar beats him he can say he beat the p4p number 1 . If he wants to beat the best then fight Calzaghe whos unbeaten and has been beating big names.

Wise words from Bob Arum, 'To dismiss the WBO as a joke means the others aren't' They're all next to useless, and are only there for what they can cream off the sport.

I've never forgiven Ring Magazine for the debacle that was the United States Boxing Championships back in 1977. I've never bought the Magazine because of that farce.

The ring is the only one i pay attention to anymore

The Ring bases it belts on the linear championship and they respect the official decisions of the judges. That's why the Ring belts have credibility, because there is a defined list of rules on how their belts are handed out. Sanctioning bodies change the rules whenever they feel like it, the Ring doesn't.

fair enough pea but as I said I dont make base my opinion and what 3 judges say . I base it on what I see myself. With so many dodgy decisions these days I think it would be better if everyone else judges it this way .

Exactly...That is why the title is so credible...it is not one that can be stripped, taken away due to BS politics..no mandatories,,,no sanctioning fees, or anything else that goes with it....

To be the champ you have to beat the champ...Bad decisions go on everyday....every organization....you can have munipulated rankings but the champion will always stay legit.....If we went on going by stuff like.."I thought so and so won the fight so IMO he is champ"...then guess what?....You just had the mindset of every bullshit ABC organization out there......

Bernard Hopkins said once after winning he Ring LHW title from Tarver and defending it against Wright....

"I think this is the greatest title there is...Better then any sanctioning title...I value this more then my middleweight crown I held for over a decade...This shows I am the champion and the next person to be champion will be the man who beats me...We will not have to pay a sanctioning fee..we will not have to fight when and where they want us to...we will just fight to see who the best man is and that man will be the champion when the fight is over and done with...Everyone can have the other titles but fact is all they are doing is holding belts...I can buy a belt at the store...I can not buy being the champion"

No way were ring gonna call santa cruz the world champ even though he beat the supposed champion.

Boxing suffers from too many dodgy decisions and ring base their ratings on these dodgy decisions ? They should rank a fighter on how good they are not who their promoter is

Because the Ring has set of rules to follow, and even though the judges blew that fight, the Ring still had to follow and abide by that decision, crap or not. Had Santa Cruz not gotten screwed THE FUCKING JUDGES NOT RING MAG, he would have been Ring Champ. It's that simple. The judges fucked up, not the ring. The belts don't matter. Sucks for Campbell, but that's the way it it. The ring needs to play by it's own rules.

well thats what im trying to get away from . . following bad decisions. Im not saying the alphabets are right either im just saying Ring arent sqeaky clean like peopl eon here wana believe

The problem with what your saying is if the ring judged on what you have just said ie what ever they felt over the actual result then they would be the same as the others and they could put who they liked as champ regardless of who actually wins
No system is perfect but fighters and fight fans alike respect the ring as the most honourable and non biased assocation out there
