considering the grief he gave Mayweather for "ducking" him, it is amazing that the potential for Mosley to win as the reason not to take the fight. Hypocritical springs to mind :confused:
That should shut up anyone who criticized Mayweather for not fighting Margarito. He just did the exact same thing (except he called Mosley out and then turned down the fight).

Gotta say I'm surprised - and a little disappointed.
I'm glad. Mosley didn't look good against Mayorga and I've already seen one of my favorite fighters beaten in the last couple of weeks because he went on way past his best years.
Last I knew it was a done deal....I hate when they send out pressers then things change:mad:...Just wait until all is inked instead of saying it is inked...
My best guess is money....Tony has been avoided that big money bout that the others have gotten for so long he is trying to make the best of it...He only has another 2 or so years left...

I kind of get why they don't want the fight, if they had just not gone after the fight it would be one thing, the part that sucks is Tony talking about Shane hiding before.
I heard Margarito wasn't happy with the $2 million offered. He wants to fight Cotto again? That seems rather pointless except from a financial point of view.
Really can only think of two explinations.One Tony does not think he can beat Mosley and 'fears' him.....cough... or secondly he has something more lucrative and ,with respect to a fine fighter in Mosley,meaningful in the works ??
The 2nd is very quite possible,the 1st is pretty imaganitive.Tony's style for Mosley at this stage will overwhelm Mosley.ending badly for him.
The only thing that would justify his backing out right now, would be because he is in negotiations with Mayweather. Who just happens to be training full time again.
Other than that, he is wasting a 2 million dollar payday while waiting for Cotto's return. During that time he could have earned 2 Million Dollars. That would have been his biggest payday and one he was very capable of winning.
Pffft I guess we need to change his nickname to Tony "Money" Margarito. Shane is too scary I guess, I bet he realizes he will lose a decision to shane who won't wilt like Cotto did.....hypocrite.
He's not turning down 8 million like Mayweather, guys!!! (And only fighting little welterweight chumps)
Nevertheless, I don't like his decision. It'd be a great fight. I still think Margarito has 2, at most 3 great fights left in him.

Sound how ever you want but when Margarito was looking to fight these big names no one gave him the time of day....Now he should just accept every challenge?....Fair play in my book....
For years Tony was ignored....These names could have fought him then but choose not to.....He was side stepped...Disrespected by all as a "Club Fighter".......Even many posters on this board referred to him as such....
Margarito waited paitently for his time....No one needed him...now they NEED HIM...for the big fight because he is the big fight....Sucks when the shoe is on the other foot....
Those guys could have fought him and given him a payday but choose not to...so why not seek the biggest payday he can?.....He and his promoters know there is a bigger one available or these guys will up their ante....

I'm was shocked that Margo turned a fight with Mosley down!! The only reason I see him doing so is if he got a better deal or he took more damage from the Cotto fight than we can all see on the surface.

..i'm not sure of the reasoning behind any of this but i serioiusly doubt this whole fear theory. Floyd was in no way scared of tony and tony isn't scrared of mosely. Fear may be the reason in a small amount of cases but these guys are all warriors i don't think any of them are "scared" of any opponet or they wouldn't have made it this far in the first place. Any fight at this stage is gonna be rough.
This is why Margarito's self-proclaimed moniker 'most feared' made me dislike him. It only made business sense for Mayweather not to fight him or any other guy for that matter. Margarito was clamoring for fights, quite frankly, he didn't deserve. Except in this case, Margarito doesn't have that defense against Mosley. Mosley, even at this age, is an elite fighter who is still a bigger draw than him. Margarito is simply leapfrogging him for a bigger pay day. In a strictly business sense there's nothing wrong with that. Bug when you say guys won't fight you when you aren't a fighter who brings anything to the table to begin with you don't get to turn around and be one of those guys against someone EVERYBODY knows. Williams only decided to go above welterweight as nobody at welterweight would fight him. Cotto wanted no part and Berto called him out and then wanted no part.
Thats why when all these fighters were asked who they wanted to fight, nobody brought up PW. Cotto wouldn't even say Mayweather's name after fights .....Zab was not more deserving than PW at that time. You forget the fact that Tony and Paul couldn't get Cotto so they had to fight each other.

He's just off the heels of the most successful PPV this year (450,000 buys, albeit, Cotto was the draw) and he wants to wait around until next year to fight Cotto again? I'm sorry but unless this guy has some plan to fight ODLH or Mayweather next year, he's an idiot.
If you're a guy like Tony, you have to strike when the iron's hot. I don't know what he's waiting around for. 2 Million dollars is a great paycheck for a guy who has five losses on his record. Holding out for more money could leave you nowhere, look at Winky Wright. Winky Wright turned down a 4-5 Million dollar paycheck because JT was gonna make 55% and he was gonna make 45%. Now look at Winky Wright. Just imagine where his career could have gone.
You have to build on your buzz and build on your salary. And that means you have to stay active and stay in the public eye. This guy is complaining about never getting a big paycheck but big paychecks don't come from beating one guy. He's just laying around and waiting for a big fight to fall in his lap. He thinks that someone is gonna come offer him $5 Million dollars when his previous career high is only a million. He truly doesn't understand promoters. Just imagine if he took on Mosley or Clottey and won, and then took on Cotto in the summer and won again, and then closed the year out with a Paul Williams rematch. Those fights could total up to 10+ Million dollars (2 Mil for Mosley/Clottey, 4-5 Mil for Cotto, 4-5 Mil for PW)
That's a big year, money wise and professionally. And if he won all the fights, he would have essentially cleared out the welterweight division. And the money he could demand would have tripled because promoters would have to start paying him based on his last paycheck.
I just don't know what type of money he's expecting right now. The only true big name he's ever fought against is Cotto. Does he think he's gonna make $4 Million dollars anywhere else (actually he turned down 4 Mil for a PW rematch)? He's gotta get realistic. What Tony doesn't understand is that NOBODY wants him in the position he's in right now. Top Rank wanted Cotto to win that fight, ODLH wanted Cotto to win to he could fight him, Mayweather probably would have fought Cotto, HBO definitely doesn't wanna see Tony on top because he's not that promotable to the American public quite honestly. If he loses, he's getting thrown back on the shelf and he'll go back to whining again. So he should at least stay as active as possible. Everyone around him is.
Then explain to me why they turned down $4 million for the rematch? That would be far and away the biggest payday of his career. His career best is the $1.7 million he got to fight Cotto. The Mosley fight was for $2 million. He probably won't get more than $3 million to rematch Cotto (that was Cotto's purse in the first fight).
