Ricky Hatton has irritated me as of late...
The way he keeps banging on about the winner of Hoya-Pac.
Remember when Hoya was being lined up after Mayweather ?
Well he got beat and something tells me he could get beat tommorow.
Foucs on Paulie for fuck sake. Yes he has looked shit as of late but he is 100% determined and is a slick fighter with speed.
Every slick, speedy fighter Ricky Hatton has faced he's had trouble with.
Maussa (Eventually catching up to him)
Collazo
Mayweather
This fight is 50-50 IMO.
Take notice of Junior Witter, he looked past Bradley and wanted bigger things, yet got beat.
And if Hatton loses, he only has himself to blame.

Re: Ricky Hatton has irritated me as of late...
I read someone else call Carlos Maussa a slick speedy fighter ;D
Made me laugh anyway.
Mad, awkward maybe, but slick and speedy.......

Arkward then. Paulie is awkward you could say as well.
You get the point Memphis ;D
-
Re: Ricky Hatton has irritated me as of late...
I'm sure Sky described Mauusa as slick the other night too ;D
You have a point though, lefty. From the build-up shows, looks like powderpuff is treating it like the fight of his life (which it is), Ricky seems ultra relaxed like he has it in the bag already. hmmm...

Re: Ricky Hatton has irritated me as of late...
Yeah if Hatton loses this one im afraid he'll have to retire, but i cant really see Hatton losing this one really!Hatton has got into the zone of smashing Paulie all over the place!Hatton has got the fire burning bright again in his belly.Paulie will test Hatton no dought about that, but i bet all of this new guard training from Mayweather snr goes out of the window as the fight goes further in the rounds. This fight will be a FIGHT:fighting0040mf3:especially as the fight goes further!I see Hatton,if not Paulie too to recieve bad cuts during the slug fest!!

Re: Ricky Hatton has irritated me as of late...
Well Ricky has had 45 fights and now ive decided to be a fan for the first time ever i will be rooting for him C'MON RICKY!! he will stop Paulie in 8 ;)
-
Re: Ricky Hatton has irritated me as of late...
Im nervous about this fight. Paulie does seem really up for it. Malignaggi is talking up a fight and there's Ricky talking about wanting to be friends afterwards.
Hatton looked good for half against Collazo and then faded. The same happened against Urango. He got Castillo out early so we dont know if he was ready for 12 hard rounds. And then Mayweather stopped Hatton and Hatton was really no longer a threat after 5 rounds anyway. And then we have Lazcano getting to Ricky twice. That was supposed to be a gimme after the Mayweather knock out.
There are big question marks surrounding Ricky Hatton. Has he still got it in him?? Paulie is definitely going to make Hatton fight, so he really needs to be in tip top condition.
I actually think Hatton boxed superbly for the first 6 rounds against Urango. Thats the kind of thing he needs to do for 12 rounds here. Use his footwork to dart in and out of range and utilise that jab a lot more. I can see this fight being a boxing contest for the opening rounds, if its working Hatton can try and maintain it, if he needs to rough Paulie then he can revert to that. But the key is having the lungs to fight 12 hard rounds and we havent seen that since Kostya way back when.
Stamina and output is what I will be hoping for. If Hatton is able to show us that then I think he can pull through.
Malignaggi has a difficult style though.

I hope he manages this.
I agree with Lefty that Ricky needs to shut up about fighting Oscar and Marquez and just concentrate on this. This is a bloody tough matchup.
And I want Oscar to piss off too. I saw an interview earlier where he was talking about fighting Hatton at "The Wembley". "The Wembley"???? Since when has anybody ever called it "The Wembley". Its like calling "Anfield" "The Anfield". Its just retarded.
I hope Pac manages to at least rough that silly suit and tie John up!

The compubox analysis on boxingscene (i think) came up with the idea that Maussa was a slick speedy fighter. Fuck knows why because he clearly isn't.
Plus i'm pretty sure Paulie isn't even on Collazo's level. Hatton couldn't land jabs against Collazo and continually walked into shots. Can't see that happening against Paulie. I believe he is much easier to hit and he isn't a stronger southpaw.
The only thing that winds me up with Hatton is his insistence on referring to himself in the 3rd tense.

Yep, the habitual use of the third person tense is quite peculiar. ;D

He should at least be consistent with it.
One minute it's 'Ricky Hatton' the next it's 'I'....in the same sentence.
I've heard all his jokes about 9 or 10 times over aswell. It's getting as painful as the old Peter Kay stuff people used to come out with all the time. Like people would come up and hit you with a Peter Kay joke presuming you hadn't ever heard of him....but you had.....and you just wanted to throw them off a cliff.......but you didn't.....you politely laughed at them and said 'yeah it's good that one'
Anyway....apart from that....GO RICKY :D

Why is it that you do not like Oscar so much just to ask there Miles.

There is just something about him. Whenever he speaks he just comes across to me as so fabricated and cliched. I think a decade ago he was a serious and hungry young fighter. But these days its obviously only about the money. Forbes was a poor choice of opponent and now fighting Pac in a weight class way beyond what he should be fighting. And if he wins this then a possible fight with Ricky. Another smaller guy.
And he will talk this rubbish about having the desire back in his belly?! Well, if you are so hungry fight at WW against any of a number of very credible opponents then. Oscar IMO is a phony who wears a suit better than boxing shorts these days.
Others might disagree with my perceptions and perhaps Ive got him all wrong. But I find it hard to listen to him without a grimace and a shake of the head.

I think Rick will have the stamina because he has to train like a b*****d to make light welter, he needs to be all over PM like a rash, and punching too..not posing ... its the other things that worry me ie Mayweather training him, and about a month ago he didnt even know if Kerry Kays would be working with him anymore .. whats that all about in the build up to a world title fight ????

A lot of variables in this one. I like to think the camp has gone well and Ricky has decided to use his boxing skills more. And the fact that Ricky is aware of the critisism and is trying to make the changes is a positive sign too. A bit of head movement and more of a jab can only be a positive thing. Ricky has a lot of strengths but his weaknesses have needed some work. Hopefully, we get a more balanced Hatton.

You make great points Miles and I hope ya right too ... but then I think that at this stage of his career he may be better served working with all he is good at as opposed to an over haul, if thats what he has had, because if the going gets tough his instinct will be to return to type ...
Having said that tho some fine tuning certainly wouldnt go a miss, because Ricks boxing behind the jab is brilliant when he gets it working for him ... his skills as a boxer are very under rated as he has become known for his high energy hooking style..

Re: Ricky Hatton has irritated me as of late...
All boxers have to talk a good fight or they would never sell the fight. I like Ricky a lot he earned my respect when he beat Tszyu and although I knew he would get beat off Mayweather I still routed for him. I see him taking a UD against Paulie who really does irritate me!

The Hattons!! Its just annoying really. I like Ricky as a fighter and his brother is sometimes okay as a journeyman. But the rest of them. Just Fuck Off!!!!! They are a complete irrelevancy but always seem to have interviews and attention.

Well said Miles and my point exactly Rick is sound and was loved because of who he was and what he did ... but I feel Ray Hattons involvement only succeeded in caricaturing and over exaggerating Ricks personality and his perspective on things to do with his career..
And tho fighters need a challenge it was a disaster for me that they should take the Floyd fight, money again....I think he should have fought Gatti before Floyd got hold of him then Cotto, whom I really believe he woulda beat back then, and they would have made him money and enhanced his legacy .. but he was never gonna beat Floyd in a million years...
I spoke with Hatton and Billy Graham briefly after the Calzaghe v Lacy and on asking Rick about Mayweather he just bowed his head and said Floyds a bit special aint he, billy Graham made it obvious that it was on no horizon for him and that there was other fights to be taken in Hattons own division..
Like even now they hardly ever mention the undefeated Light Welter Ricky Hatton which is where they should be taking him mentally for me, not the court jester that they seem to be trying to create..

this is what put me off him a long time ago. He turned from the likeable go through anything fighter to a phoney sounding used car dealer. The whole 'figting in Vegas for a pay cut which is cheaper for the fans' was just an outright conman type of lie. All he's done since the Collazo reality check is fight safe opponents to set up huge money makers, while selling them as genuine p4p determining fights.
This fight is horribly predictable. Hatton WILL start well and win the first rounds, then things'll start to get messy before Paulie's superior stamina WILL win the ugly last rounds. Who wins will be decided at how early Ricky starts to run out of steam.
-
Re: Ricky Hatton has irritated me as of late...
Some of you really need to stop being so critical. Hatton is the best 140 in the world and hes going to prove that tommorow. PM is a good fighter and I dont deny that, but Hatton knows that he is tough as hell and he will do the business on him. The only fight Ive seen him struggle in bar the Mayweather fight was the Colloza one. He SCHOOL Urango apart from the 5th round and I believe he looked very dominant in his victory over Lazcano. Hes tough as nails ricky and he will apply too much pressure for PM to handle. PM will win rounds if ricky is snoozing but I cant see that happening. Hatton will win this fight I know he will!

Im not Hattons biggest fan but Im looking forward to this one cuz I hate Malignaggi so much.
He has never impressed me . He is all mouth and has ill deserved confidence. Prime Ricky would have ripped him apart but it depends how washed up Ricky is. He may not be able to cut off the ring and if he lost on points he should retire and save himself from further embarrassment .

Bud I think most of the critisism is based around the Hatton circus .. not so much Rick the fighter...a great fighter no doubt, but some of the stuff surrounding the guy ie nuts tv, after dinner speaches letting his dad have too much say etc is whats getting up folks noses ... not Rick the fighter...

You know what mate i agree entirely, and its quite ironic as i feel this sort of behaviour is what people use to like, but imo he has become ever so boring with his usual "man of the people" statements and other similar comments, things like he would prefer not to be famous if he could be a boxer without the fame hed be a happy man and thats why he turned big brother down, so that explains why he seems to be on every chat show that exists on British television?
Hatton and his team have basically turned into a money machine and cash in at every possible oppurtunity and to me he has become the total opposite to the man of the people he claims to be.

I wasn't really sold on Timothy Bradley but after his last fight, he looked to be an improved fighter. And the old saying is once a fighter wins a world title it automatically makes them 25 percent better fighter.
And you could for certain see the improvements in his last fight, i think he could be a danger if he is allowed to fine tune his skills in his next few fights. I think he will improve and improve.

Too right bud thats how it appears to me too & I love Ricky the fighter a shed load but I dont like what they are doing to him .... Ricky didnt need either selling to the public (Because thats something he does or did ???? himself quite well enough, as he is a really likeable lad)
Or the Floyd "MONEY"Mayweather fight ... but greed got the better, but at what cost to his legacy in the long term..
The Ricky that really arrived that night in Manchester when he beat Kostya Tsu was a phenominal fighter & personality already, so why didnt they build on his Lite Welter legacy & tidy that whole area up .. I mean Gatti was a must fight for Rick as it was catching Gatti at the right time, but they shoud have tried for that before Mayweather got to him...then to have built on that by fighting Cotto a couple of years back, whom I think he would have punched holes in at Lite Welter...
So why not make those fights back when Ray Hatton got his grubby mitts too involved....was it because of the other fighters contractual obligations ???? was it because they couldnt see the wood for the trees re Mayweather & just went for the money even tho he was never realistically gonna win the fight....(A fight Billy Graham never wanted ... why I wonder ????)
Or was the Hatton camp concerned re the class of opponents in the likes of Gatti & Cotto etc ... I dont think so some how..
Yet had he gone the Gatti, Cotto route & cleared everything up at lite welter he becomes a self made marketing machine as well as becoming far more attractive in the states where the money is & all because of his success in the ring ... no nuts tv, no christmas songs, no chat shows, no need for the family hype for The Family made man of the people...
Why because Rick had all the tools already in place even if he isnt or wasnt totally aware of it..Ricky Hatton & Frank Warren had the perfect package both as a fighter & commercially that night he beat Kostya Tsu..
And tho its all ifs & buts, but had he gone down the other path ... what price would a Mayweather fight bring now .... & how might his legacy be standing.....
Yet countering that because he has moved up & down a little between lite welter & welter,& given his admitance of his own excesive self indulgences inbetween fights, where will it leave his performance status now at this stage of his career, how much has been taken out, where even a little more stability earlier could have been paying dividends now ????
And just to add as a footnote .... I know Ive not mentioned all or hardly any of Ricks good points of which there are many...the reason being that we are already aware of them points re Rick ... Id also like to say that I am a big fan too of Ricky Hatton, & in no way is this meant to put him down in any way at all...more a criticism of some of the things & people making decisions around him & supposedly for him...
But at the end of the day these are just one blokes thoughts on circus Hatton .....& please feel free to correct me where ever I am factually wrong, or help me with the opinions expressed here in...
Yet for Saturday Night....
"COME ON RICKY ... BRING THE LITE WELTER TERROR BACK !!!"

Re: Ricky Hatton has irritated me as of late...
I don't blame you for worrying. What are you going to say when hatton either refuses to fight pacquaio or loses to pacquaio because welterweight aint hatton's division LOL.

You think Hatton would beat Tim Bradley right now?
Yes and he would beat him safely. I like Bradley but he has much to learn if he wants to beat Hatton
