Updated P4P Top 10

Since the Hatton Malignaggi fight I have considered udpating my P4P top 10.
I raised the question before the fight as to whether or not Hatton could move back into the top 10. The concensus was that the manner of victory would be key. As such I have modified my top ten:

Pacquiao
Calzaghe
Marquez
Hopkins
Vasquez
Raul Marquez
Williams
Margarito
Cotto
Hatton

I dropped Kessler off the list as his quality of defeated opposition is not good enough to warrant a place above Hatton. Cotto above Hatton because I believe that he would beat Hatton comfortably at 147, at 140 I think Hatton would only just win due to weight drain on Cotto.

Has anybody else modified their list? Also, if Pacquiao gets beaten by De La Hoya, does he fall below Calzaghe?

This was my list before the Ricky Hatton fight, im not sure where i would put him.

I placed williams above Margarito purely because he made Margarito look very poor. Yes he was subsequently defeated, but avenged that loss immediately. Unless Cotto or Margarito beat him, he will remain above them. It's all just my opinion, doesn't mean it's right though :)

Paul Williams defeated Antonio Margarito when Antonio Margarito was just about inside the top 20 P4P, Paul Williams revenged the Carlos Quintana loss but he shouldn't have lost to him in the first place.

Paul Williams hasn't even made 1 title defense yet, i don't see why he should be above. Chad Dawson, Vic Darchinyan, Ivan Calderon, Ricky Hatton, ETC. And i don't see why he is a more deserving than the fighters above.

Hatton deserves to be above Cotto no doubt.

Cotto got knocked out by the one-dimesnional Tony Margarito. He beat Mosely but big wow. Hatton beat Kosta. Judah is garbage when faced with top fighters, Ricardo Torres just got KO'd in 1 round. Hatton forced Paulie to retire, Cotto never....The list goes on.

I take it you didn't watch the Cotto fight. He was well ahead on the cards but got stopped. He was in no shape or form outclassed!

It was dead level going into those last 2 and cotto just wanted it more

The only way you can compare cotto and hatton at the moment is how they both dealt with malignaggi, ricky won at a canter, cotto had to settle for 115-112 narrow points win.

ICB - The comparisons between what you just made for vasquez i could make the very same for hatton.

Israel has beaten the best in his division, so has hatton. Only with far lesser trouble and more defining.

Hatton only has 1 real blemish on his entire career which has involved fighting world class opposition for a good few years now!!

i wouldnt call Paulie "world class" he might be #2 in the division but he has lost his 2 biggest fights and only beat Ndou and then gave him a rematch which he shouldnt have. now he has to fight Holt, Torres, or Bradley and i see him losing to those guys aswell.

JLC got a gift decision before his fight with Ricky Hatton, he looked like a shot fighter in that fight and he was. Thats why i didn't mention him he was a badly faded fighter and based on his recent performances, it proves my point.

Paul Malignaggi ain't a bad fighter but world class ? no way he was lucky he didn't have 3 losses coming into the Ricky Hatton fight, the Jr Welterweight division is so poor at the moment, it speaks volumes that JLC could get a number 2 ranking only having 1 fight at that weight class, and someone of Paul Malignaggi's class getting a number 2 rating also proves how weak the division is.

I actually can't think of many weaker divisions, maybe the Jr Middleweight division but thats it.

I hate to regurgitate the whole 'what makes world class' arguement but both guys were rated number 2 by ring magazine, the same magazine ranking that your using to boulster your point about Israel Vasquez, you cant have it both ways.

If everyone else should fall in line because ring magazine rates Vasquez number 5 P4P then everyone should follow suit with Castillo and Malignaggi being world class.

It would make more sense to just say you dont personally rate them.

The heavyweight division is far worse that jr-welterweight.

You got Dr Slap at the top fighting faggot ass mandatories. Then you got a 7ft slow ass Nikolai Valuev fighting the 46yr old Evander Holyfield for the WBA strap :rolleyes:

The only exciting fighter in that division is David Haye who's had one fight, maybe Chris Arreola as well.

but there are other fighters at 140 that he has never fought but Ndou thats it, theres atleast 4 fighters he could have fought but didnt so i wont call him world class until he beats some other fighters in his division thats if he can.

Well I remember people saying ahh Ricky Hatton is a 140 pounder and ODLH is past it, Carlos Baldomir is one dimensional etc (They are all true btw), Pac should be number 1.

Well people used his wins over Chavez, Castillo, Corrales etc to say he deserves number 1 as he had great wins from years ago.

You can't base P4P lists over recent perofrmances, it's what they've done THROUGHOUT there whole career since they became pro.

Well I remember people saying ahh Ricky Hatton is a 140 pounder and ODLH is past it, Carlos Baldomir is one dimensional etc (They are all true btw), Pac should be number 1.

Well people used his wins over Chavez, Castillo, Corrales etc to say he deserves number 1 as he had great wins from years ago.

You can't base P4P lists over recent perofrmances, it's what they've done THROUGHOUT there whole career since they became pro.

so because Hatton beat Kosta and then lost to PBF and then beat Paulie he should be ahead of Vic.

Vic got destoryed by a mere contender at the time Nonito Donaire.

Hatton got beat by the best boxer on the planet.

Who has Vic beat in higher regard than Hatton ?

I'd rather have Kosta Tszyu on my record that Cristian Mijares WITHOUT DOUBT.

Considering most fans compile their lists based on acomplishments and quality of opposition, Hatton definitely gets a raw deal in the P4P lists, not just by most fans but The Ring itself.

His last 8 fights have all been against top 10 Ring ranked fighters at 140 and 147. Including three top 10 P4P-ers.

That pisses all over certain other fighters that qualify.

hatton isn't even a p4p fighter though, he just a 140lb fighter. p4p are suppose to be guys with real skill that do move up in weight classes. we all know hattons natural weight class should be above 140. but he has no choice, i dont think he can compete above 140lbs. :p it'll be suicide to go down to 135 as well, not only will he be drain but guys like jmm are there ;D

thats why tony is 8 and hatton is just outside 10, imo fighters that usually stays in one weight get less credit then guys that move up. one of the meaning of p4p is having the ability to move up. This thread illustrates perfectly why these lists are so stupid. Who the hell knows whether Hatton should or shouldn't be above Cotto at this point. I think Cotto has the slightly more impressive wins over the last few years, since Hatton beat Tszyu no doubt. For me I feel Cotto is a slightly more talented fighter who would fare better were they to face an array of similar opposition. But what the hell do I know? Also whoever said Hatton deserves to be ahead of Cotto on the basis of Miguel losing to 'the one dimensional Margarito', let's see how Hatton would handle that dimension at 147:rolleyes: As if even his own family wouldn't expect him to get stopped just as soon.

Good points. both Hatton and Marg are there or there abouts. You can stay in the same division and still be a top p4per in my opinion, if you utterly dominate it and beat p4pers who come up, but neither have got this criteria IMO. Currently I'd put Marg higher than Hatton since his win over Cotto is better and more recent than the things Hatton have done.

Of course, you have to take into account the competition before eliminating someone from the top 10. I cant stand Hattonmania (the prick even has a football bloopers DVD) but overall on achievement he's done more than Williams (due to the Quintana loss) to be there, even though Williams IMO has potential to do way more in his career. It also depends how much you rank skill and potential compared to results made, as p4p seems to be some sort of combination of both.
