*** Saddos 2008 Boxing Awards ***

Well my good people at Saddos it's that time of year again where YOU our very own people get to vote as we come up with our very own prestigious Saddo Award.

This is the 3rd Annual Saddo Award Show. For those interested in past events here's the link to last years ceremony.

The 1st Annual was in 2006 and the thread must have gotten lost with the server change and all... :(

But we had a lot of fun last year both for the voting and the actual ceremony. This year the location is yet to be set, the 1st year it was held in the UK and last year it was held out here in Los Angeles.
This year I'm still not sure but will be announcing it in the next few days.

For those who have done this before the rules are the same for the virgins aka. 1st timers here are the RULES:

- Categories will be listed and you can ONLY list 1 nominee per category.
- Any modifications made after the specific ending date will be void and your entire post will be removed.
- Voting will begin TODAY Nov. 30th and the last day to vote will be Dec. 31st
- On the 31st I will lock this thread and tally up all the votes I will also make a new thread for the actual award ceremony.

*Voting tip: Make an initial post right now and vote for whichever category you already have a nominee for then as you make up your mind comeback and edit/modify your post. ;)

10. Robbery of the Year: More like disappointment of the year but I'll go with Joan Guzman not being able to fight Nate Campbell. Big disappointment that was and can loosely be categorized as a robbery. Otherwise I'd have to go back through all my ESPN2 notes to find a robbery. Surely there is a Herman Ngoudjo fight somewhere in the running there.

FIGHTER OF THE YEAR-- Has to be Antonio Margarito, I know some will disagree and believe I am being partial but...He destroys Cintron to win another world title...then dominates the fighter who is perhaps the most ruthless body puncher in the sport....

FIGHT OF THE YEAR-- Hard to pass over Vazquez/Marquez 3...My pick hands down

ROUND OF THE YEAR--Holt/Torres rd 1

KNOCKOUT OF THE YEAR-- Paul Williams over Carlos Quintana

WORST FIGHT OF THE YEAR--Hopkins/Calzaghe....Was an ugly affair where both men looked like crap..No excuse at that level

COMEBACK FIGHTER OF THE YEAR- Margarito/Hopkins...I know this is going to make Mick a bit mad but fact is I have it a tie..Hopkins lost to Calzaghe earlier this year and everyone wrote him off until his destruction of Pavlik....

Margarito loses his title to Williams in 2007 just to come back in 2008 and win 2 titles..one from a P4P ranked fighter


EVENT OF THE YEAR-- Cotto/Margarito--No One was looking to sign a dangerous fight, no one was looking to help clean up a division...(Any Division)...These two laid it all on the line...not so much for a title but just to prove who was best..they did it with style...hats off

PROSPECT OF THE YEAR--I know a world champion is not exactly a prospect but he was just a prospect on the way in....Timothy Bradley..he went to the UK an underdog unexperienced and came home a champ


ROBBERY OF THE YEAR- Oscar De La Hoya trying to rob the sport as a whole by attempting to have us believe he is not desperate for a win over an elite fighter before retirement by making the Pacquiao fight!!

Did you see the Klitschko v. Imbragimov fight? The Jones v. Calzaghe fight wasn't a bad fight at all.

I've seen Gamboa listed as prospect of the year a bunch of times. Am I the only one who thinks once he fights someone with decent power he's going to get floored? I'm thinking the same thing with Kirkland. He got hit with a bunch of slow motion punches from Vera. These guys will be in deep trouble when they fight the wrong person.

They're exciting and I hope they can fix their defense up a little bit, they'd both be good for boxing.

Gamboa has been floored a few times... It's cuz he fights like an arogant asshole. Kind of like Vic. But I like him. Your analysis is on point though. He's still young and will be moved slowly. luckily he has the skill to turn the amatuer mistakes around.

Kirkland is a fireplug. He fought Vera well. The punches Vera landed were pretty few and far between. Most guys(even close to elite) would have been floored by some of the great shots James was putting on him. Vera is just a rugged dude. With a little more pollishing and exp he'll be something special.

Gamboa has been floored a few times... It's cuz he fights like an arogant asshole. Kind of like Vic. But I like him. Your analysis is on point though. He's still young and will be moved slowly. luckily he has the skill to turn the amatuer mistakes around.

Kirkland is a fireplug. He fought Vera well. The punches Vera landed were pretty few and far between. Most guys(even close to elite) would have been floored by some of the great shots James was putting on him. Vera is just a rugged dude. With a little more pollishing and exp he'll be something special.

Vera is tough as nails. He was getting schooled by Kirkland no doubt. I thought fro a second there we might see a flash knockdown, but by no means could he knock him out. Kirkland is a solid prospect. I had to go with Bernabe Concepcion, though. He is so fast and is gonna be amazing.

It may take Concepcion another year or two to get to the world class level, but I was very impressed with his performance on HBO fro the under card to.... (*******) someone please fill in that blank.

Gosh, I can't agree with the Holt Torres, just because Holt hit him with the headbutt from all hell. It was just going to be "boxer getting schooled by puncher of the year" if it continued the way it was supposed to.
