PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
Honestly, Peta WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?! All but 4 of the dogs (2 had to be put down, and 2 died of disease) survived and are doing very well but Peta said the time and money spent on the dogs (most donated anyways) would have been put to better use on other dogs who just needed homes and no training.
Now while I agree that dogs in the pound need homes and love and care and all (I have a rescue dog myself) you cannot make a case to not kill animals for food or clothing and go after people who mistreat those animals and then say the animals (who don't provide food or clothing oddly enough) should have been put down when they are now doing so well.
FUCK PETA, I am now going to go eat some veal......lots and lots of veal, AND I am going to drape myself in leather......fucking double standard bastards! They'll play classical music for a fucking domesticated turkey (one of the dumbest animals alive) but they want to put down perfectly good dogs who's only issues stem from who their owner was.

Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
As you well know Lyle, I am a wacky liberal sympathizer and all that jazz...
But those PETA people? I have to agree ...something wrong in their damn heads.
-
Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
Yeah, I often fantasize about walking through a line of Peta protesters to order some KFC, then walking back through the line munching on a drumstick, and have them all chant KILLER at me, and me flipping them the bird and laughing in their faces.

Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
And the Humane Society as well

Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
i DONT think any dog should be put down.
I want to rescue a female pitbull for my amstaff male.
AND i think nuetering or spaying is ANIMAL CRUELTING. Its just another way for the (control freak) system to feel in control.
The vet ask me if I wanted to nueter my pup, at first people made it seem like its the best thing for the dog and then I learn even nuetered dogs go out and try to hump other dogs. PLUS ITS AN EXPENSIVE PROCEEDURE. I wont let them cut out my puppys balls. Now thats cruelty, there is nothing gauranteed in nuetering or spaying when it comes to dog behavior. It just stops them from having pups, fuck that the system can't control the people so the animals have to suffer? What they should do is require permits to breed animals if they want to stop irresponsible owners from doing it.
My pup is about 18 weeks now and I had him sinces he was 6 weeks old. His completed all his vaccination shots at the age of 15 weeks. I didnt sign him up for training classes yet but I have been training him myself. His doing well and the only time i have to put a leash on him is when afraid people walk by. They are approach with suprise of how kind and gentle my rapidly growing 18 week 50 pound american staffordshire is. I know 50 pounds is huge for that age, but its so true ;D this boy is going over a 100 easy thats what my vet tells me. We will get him into weight pulling competition when he gets old enough. We will begin training him for weigh pulling when he gets to about 30 weeks. I want for his body to mature more and i think 30 weeks should be perfect to begin training but he wont compete til a year old.
Sorry guys i tend to go on and on about my pup, i love this boy ;D he all i got ;D

dude.. i think you're missing the point about spaying and neutering.. the whole point is so that if for some reason your dog gets out for a few hours without you knowing, or something to that extent, he may get another dog pregnant.. which will lead to more and more puppies going to shelters and dog pounds, that eventually may be euthanized.. there are WAYYYY more pets going into shelters than the amount of owners out there willing to take them in.. It's not cruelty if you care about other dogs besides your own..
so its your dogs balls, or the possible death of a lot of other puppies.. cruel to his balls, yes, but not cruel to animals in general considering it may be saving a lot of dogs lives..
this is also why in a lot of areas they offer reimbursement on the procedure if you rescue a dog from the pound, or at least they offer you a bit of money back if you get the procedure done.
-
Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
Julius, I have had similar thoughts to you about spaying or neutering, though I'm not a dog owner. I doubt the dog "knows" he is sterile. Neutering is supposed to make males less aggresive and less likely to wander, but I suppose you are right to say no guarantees, it is still possible for a neutered dog to be agressive.
Like RP33 says, it's mainly to prevent unwanted puppies that have to be put down.
Ask anyone who works at a humane society what they think of all this.

Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
I used to know a guy who fed wild cats and was totally against getting them desexed.
Eventually he changed his mind because the population grew from one cat to something like 30 to 40 and many of them just got killed in inhumane ways.
They got hit by traffic, became ill or injured too often for him to pay for the vet bills, they had fleas and diseases carried by fleas, no real shelter in winter etc etc.
He kept more alive than would be without his intervention and from that the population had a boom which was greater than he could look after.
He eventually decided that the kinder thing to do was to get them desexed.
Oddly enough an the first original old female cat who'd always been fairly nasty and bitter suddenly became much friendlier to people and the other cats after being desexed.
I think she was happier and damn it after having 13 kids each year for years on end I'd be damn relieved to have a break from it all too! ;D

Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
Fixing the male dogs is supposed to make them less aggressive and actually makes them less prone to cancer.
Trainer what do you have against the Humane Society?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0v0P_UhGLME
....that's fucking real....they just took a domestic turkey and played classical music for it.....insane

Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
You know, there is a certain logic to what Newkirk said in the first video. :p
If you are willing to roast and eat the flesh of a turkey, then perhaps you should be willing to roast and eat my flesh. Logic says that the reverse would also be true: If you are not willing to roast and eat my flesh, then you should not be willing to roast and eat the flesh of a turkey. Unbelievable. okay Newkirk, if you say so.
btw, With all due respect to those not present I interpreted Trainer's remark not as a slight on the Humane Society, but rather as an indirect defense of PETA. Are we prepared to say the same things about the Humane Society that we are saying about PETA? I could be mistaken, I guess we'll see.

Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
Though it seems the SPCA has chilled on their Pit Bull policy, they used to have a strict euthanasia policy toward Pits.
In the early 90's I had to be away for work for an extended period of time,so I left my dog and her pup with my mom, because I really only wanted to pay for a one room joint to save money. My mom got sick,so my Aunt more or less took over my moms trailer, including my dogs and everything I owned that I hadnt taken with me.
Rather then calling me,she burnt all my stuff, and handed over both of my dogs to the SPCA,by the time I found out what she had done, the SPCA had allready euthanized the pair of them including the 6 month old puppy.
Needless to say,my Aunt and I dont talk very often any more, and the SPCA wont be getting a donation from me any time soon. There are more then enough no-kill shelters that could use my coin

Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
Pit bulls were banned in Ontario a few years ago. I don't think they can take away an existing, pet, but no new pit bulls in the province.

I hate those breed bans, their stupid as hell. Ban all the Pit Bulls you want, and guess what, the dog attack statistics dont go down. The a-holes that are irresponsible enough to raise a dog thats inclined to attack, just find another breed du jour. Hell before the crack invasion in the states(crack heads want tough dogs) Pits had one of the lowest dog related death rates in the states

Logic says you are right TM, but reality was saying someting else here. There was a long string of high prodile attacks by pit bulls, particularly on children, It just kept happening. There was a large public outcry, and something had to be done. Maybe not the best thing was done, but better that than nothing at all.

Stats bear it out,Britain has had a Pit ban for years, attacks didnt go down, just the number of Pit Bulls. In the states, the Pit isnt the drug dealer dog Du Jour anymore,Pit attacks have dropped, and Rottweiler attacks have risen, ban Rottweillers, they'll just find another dog. Theyre allready starting to use Chows for dogfighting, because theyre more aggresive then Pits and Rotties,so theyre easier to train for dogfighting. And then they'll ban Chows, and then some other dog will take its place.
Unfortunatly just like you cant ban idiots from being parents, its even harder to ban them from owning dogs
Fun factoid,in the states,in 1979 the breed most likely to be responsible for a dog related death was a Great Dane

Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
And if I sound ever so no it ally on the subject of Pits and their attack statistics, owning one responsibly, you kind of have to. Otherwise the neighbors act like complete dorks about it. When we first bought the house, they acted like Malachi was going to eat all the children and slow moving elderly people. Now they mainly worry that he whines cry and barks when I leave the house because he worries about where I am.

Id rep you,but I got to spread some.
The downside about him,is he has abandonment issues(I know that sounds faggy new age,but its true) his first owner more or less ditched him, which is how I got him for free. I came home from being out,and asked my neighbor as I was heading in,"Did he bark at the window the entire time I was gone?"
She responded,"And I think if you were gone for a week,he'd bark for a week"
Freaking baby is sleeping on the couch hogging the blankets I keep on there, and snuggled in to his sweatshirt. What? Its been a cold winter and he's a short haired dog.
In all honesty,I never thought Id put clothes on a dog,I generally make the wife dress him, otherwise I feel like a dork

Re: PETA wanted for the Michael Vick dogs to be "put down"!!!!
If you take your dogs for walks on the sidewalk on the winter, I'm told the heavy duty salt they spread to melt the ice and snow can mess up a dog's feet.

Yeah its bad for their pads, the upside I suppose of living in a small town is we're more or less responsible for our own sidewalks and street. If you wait for the county to send a truck, your going to be stuck in your house for quite a while. Even though its been a pretty rough winter all ready,I havent had to drop salt this year so far. And my neighborhood is pretty isolated,so since I rarely walk him past my immediate neighborhood(it teaches dogs what their patch is,and not to go off it)I dont have to worry about it much.
My biggest worries with him are the two rat dogs(if its as big as the largest rat Ive seen, its a rat dog)one isnt fixed and female, and Id hate to explain those pups(half Pomeranian, half Pit Bull, you wouldnt even be able to give them away) and the other is a Jack Russell who is a complete psychopath and routinely slips his lead. And Id hate to have this discussion,"Your dog attacked my dog,so my dog ate him" Just not good for neighborhood relations. But at this point,I think his owners would consider it a blessing, the little thing really is a total psycho.

Theres two side to everything you just said, ok a dog gets loose. Whos responsible for that dog? Where does this lead back to or where does it start? The dog owner.period. I think they are not controlling were it all starts and it all starts from dog owners PERIOD. Plus study show it doesn't take just one time for a bitch to get pregnant. Ok a dog gets loose once he bang a bitch...it must take multiple error by dog owners not to prevent this from happening enough time. dogs need to mate multiple time a day during breeding to have puppies. Its really the fucking people, this shit aint no accident.
Possible death of other puppies? that still better then no hope for life. Cruel to every dog going under nuetering or spaying, it takes atleast two weeks for them to recover. Image people going through that cause Gods wanted to limit us breeding? its bullshit really. you know whats a better idea? nueter or spay idiot people from becoming parents. Atleast a dog will do its best to nurture its pups til it can. But again people play in this whole situation. takes the pups away, not enough room at home, not enough food, etc. Its idiotic not to target people in this, its just like breed banning. Its not the damn breed its the people. Even if pits are all banned, dog attacks still stay the same but a different breed to blame.

Yeah like you say there's two sides to every story, just pick the side you wanna believe.
I have doubts about your multiple times theory, and evidence from past experience as a dog owner that once is enough for pregnancy.
Your points about cruelty are highly debatable. What's cruel? Keeping a dog restrained to keep it from roaming? Letting your bitch go into heat but be unable to do anything about it? Having a perfectly good set of balls but be prevented from breeding?
Death of other puppies being better than no hope for life? What the hell is that all about?

Julius, you are correct 100% that it is the owners, but unfortunately that's how it is.. I mean think of the HUMAN race.. If i drive 5 minutes from my house i'll be in a bad area of Providence where i bet 88% of the kids that live there are the product of a parent going around and sleeping with some guy, not using protection, getting pregnant, having the baby, and not supporting them.. This is how poverty rates rise.. More and more people have kids that they can't support.. not only can they not support them physically with money, but mentally it's a WHOLE other story..
with that said, if we could cut the balls off of all these people doing this, then there may be less crime, less poverty, less taxes, etc..
that's the idea behind spaying/neutering.. You have to take some sort of damage control, because you KNOW that dogs are going to get loose, and unfortunately some owners shouldn't even have dogs, but there is NO way around that.. so by making it impossible for dogs to bread, then you are limiting the amount of dogs being euthanized at pounds, and in general you're limiting the amount of dogs that may end up into a bad owners hand..
yes, you made a good point about spaying/neutering parents, like i said.. but unfortunately that's a bit unrealistic, and we need to deal with the problem at hand..
