Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
Looks like we may see a John vs JMM rematch if they both win. And it will be for the undisputed Lightweight championship. That's a good storyline.
-
Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
Actually, that card looks great! JMM v. Juan Diaz and Chris John v. Rocky Jaurez.
-
Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
Hell yeah, and it's not gonna be PPV. Hell of a card for free. Although I expect Marquez and John to both look spectacular and win by wide margins.
-
Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
John has sort of Joe Calzaggi thing going: defending his alphabet title in his home country for years before stepping his game up.

If everything went as expected, and a rematch of Juan Manuel Marquez against Chris John is to happen, at what weight category tho'? My guess would be at lightweight, is that a fair assumption?
-
Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
Even though John won the fight btw the two. I think that JMM is going to have the pull for the weight they fight at. Lord knows how much trouble fighters have jumping up and the back down weights when they are 35.
John is going to have a tough time luring JMM back down to 130 if Pac is at 140. I don't think JMMs legacy is really tarnished by this loss. Unless John whoops Jaurez' butt, then people will take note that JMM lost their first outing, and might want to see this fight happen.
OUTCOME: Don't even think to count Diaz out. He is back with a vengeance, and I don't think JMM can expect to stop him or vice versa. JMM 7-5 rounds.
Jaurez could pull this outta his ass late, yet again (see Barrios), but he is lazy in there sometimes, and that will not work against a fighter as fit as John. Juarez very bloody. John 10-2 rounds.

Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
If JMM could revenge that loss to Chris John it would do wonders for his career, i actually did think he did win by 3 rounds and it was a hometown decision for Chris John. But Chris John still did fight very well and was competitive with JMM, for alot of the fight so a rematch is very intriguing IMO.

Talk about home town decisions; John better watch out, remember what happened to Barrios(before getting knocked out): he was comfortably winning in everyone eyes, except the three judges, who had Rocky inexplicably a head on the score cards.

For some reason I don't think JMM cares about a John rematch. I think he will still chase after Pac if he beats Diaz.

I think Juarez is an easy fight for John. But hey, at least he's moving outside of his comfort zone and finally fighting in the States. Isn't Juarez from Houston? John may be looking at a hometown decision against himself this time...

Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
Well its a step in the right direction for John. If he plays his cards right he can finally make some noise. Hes definately got good skills and is a solid fighter.
-
Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
JMM via ud
rocky via ko
JMM doesn't give a damn about chris john, he knows anybody with a brain know he didn't lose to john. Pac is his real target, theres the real controversy. the Chris John match was a stain on the sport, john doesn't even deserve to be mention in the same sentence as JMM. He should be ashame.

I would not mind seeing them go at it again myself

Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
This is pretty cool.Waiting on the arrival.Someone fill him in on the Juarez "If at first, second, third, etc you don't succeed" factor though. He better bring his own refs based on the azz backwards scoring prior to Barrios falling late in their fight..........Just wish John was blessed with Huge KO power to make judges a non factor.

Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
I see little in John that impresses me. Him beating Rocky "Can't win the big one" Juarez means little to me. But it's a start.

Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
Getting out of Asia period is a start...
I think this fight has snooze fest written allover it.
I think it's a bad matchup as far as styles go.

This is going to be like the 5th time HBO televises Juarez in Houston. Show Time did it once. What the fukk does Juarez have over them?

How crazy would it be if they robbed John of his title and "gave" the fight to Juarez?
That would be some shit... ;D

Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
Chris "THE DRAGON" John stopping Rocky Juarez in Houston will be a very impressive performance since even JMM didn't able to stop a one eyed Rocky Juarez... Juarez is a very tough hombre... A KO/TKO win over Juarez will also put added clamor for John-JMM rematch fight possibly at 130 lbs...
-
Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
Juarez beat Zahir Raheem, gave and very close fights with Barrera and Soto. He KO'd Barrios. Juarez has losses, but they have been against the highest level of competition. Chris John has beaten nobody except getting a total gift decision against JMM.
Stylistically, this is a bad matchup all around, but this is no slam dunk for John, especially in Houston. Personally, I hope John gets robbed in a close fight. It will be justice for the Marquez fight.

Agreed on Juarez only losing in some tough bouts against the elite...The guy is no push over...UI remember when he srtarted out once he came in off the olympic team.....I thought he was going to be a dominate force in the sport.....

I think Marquez has moved on to bigger, better things after his fight with John. I honestly don't think he wants to fight him again. Like I said before, he's still trying to find that angle to get him another fight with Pacquiao.

Thank you! John was given a gift against JMM. And again, YES! Karma is a b*tch and I hope John outboxes Juarez and still loses a decision cause what goes around come around.
Does anyone have the official scorecards from the JMM vs Chris John fight?

Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
Never seen John fight. Hope they show this one on Setanta.

I'm not sure John has what it takes to totally outclass Juarez, and that might be what it takes to beat him in Houston. Juarez is actually very skilled and an excellent counterpuncher. The problem is that he isn't fast and he only has one mode of fighting. Barrera played into all of his strengths in the first fight by coming at him and trading. When Barrera boxed him in the second fight, he outclassed him, same as Marquez. In both of those fights, he looked REALLY bad and I think that's why he gets so much hate.
I'm not sure Chris John is good enough to do that to him. Juarez will be coming forward and he will probably land the bigger punches, and John doesn't have the power to hurt him. Judges today time and time again favor the fighter who moves forward unless the retreating fighter really dominates. This is especially true when the pressing fighter is more or less walking through the other guys shots. Two judges scored the second Barrera fight 115-113 for Barrera and I didn't think it was nearly that close. The one that had it 117-111 nailed it.
Mick was right, though, it's probably going to be a snoozefest which ever way it goes. I would much rather see Juarez fight Guerrero. That would be a much more entertaining fight and I would favor Juarez for sure.

It seems to me he has a style that really better suited for the amateurs. He's technically very good and only lets his hands go when he can land nice clean blows that everybody can see. I think that's why he does well with judges. When he lands, you know it. If he had better one shot power, he'd really be something. I don't think he gets enough credit for the Barrios win. He was landing the clean hard shots (albeit one at a time) all night, and I wasn't surprised that he stopped Barrios late.

Great way to size Juarez up...I agree with the style comment...That has happened to a few fighters in the past who had great amateur careers...
I think Henry Tillman fell into tht catagory

The Raheem fight was a gift. And the Barrios fight was turning into one. I can easily see him getting another gift against John

I guess John also doesn't care if JMM will be willing to have a rematch with him or not. He got the "W"... John even doesn't care if he fights out of Asia or not...

Re: Chris John: Finally coming to America
Chris John Update!
Facing Rocky Juarez on February 28, WBA featherweight champion Chris John and his entourage will come to Houston, Texas, by the end of this month (one full month before the fight) to adapt with the climate and conditions of the city. John has been training at Craig Christian’s “Harry’s Gym” in Perth, Australia since December 28. When asked about this big step in his career making his U.S. debut, John only commented “wish me luck.”
