Pac-Man, new balls please...
Sorry, but the Australian open is all that's on the telly this week, so I just had to throw in a natty little tennis reference to the title of this thread.
Well, at first I thought Pac deserved the 60-40 split. But hearing Arum describe his OWN FIGHTER'S decision to reject 55-45 as 'bizarre' leads me to wonder what is going on.
Hatton is a beast at 140, and I think he'd handle Manny, especially if he was allowed to fight on the inside.
I think Pac-Man's excursion to 147 was a one-off against an opponent his trainer had pretty good suspicion of being shot.
So, my only conclusion is that Pac-Man's balls aren't as big as I thought they were - why else turn down $11 million.
-
Re: Pac-Man, new balls please...
Why is Hatton turning down 11 million? There are bigger fights for Manny before there would be bigger fights for Hatton. Just look at who he has foughten in his last I don't know 12-15 outtings and you will see he's got balls that nobody else in the sport has.
-
Re: Pac-Man, new balls please...
No.
He's just an idiot.
He'll handle Hatton with ease in the ring. I hope it still happens

Pacquiao is the one who didnt sign the contract, Hatton didn't turn him down.

You need to work on your tenses Taeth. Here's how the sentence should read:-
Just look at who he has fought in his last 12-15 outings and you will see he had balls that nobody else in the sport had.

Greig another Grammar departure?? I think these guys are doing all they can....... I can't believe I am taking up for Taeth here.

Re: Pac-Man, new balls please...
I'm not really having a go at somebody's grammar mate - christ knows it'd be a full-time gig around here;D
I'm just pointing out that Pac Man HAD a big set of balls - but if he's turning down 11 million and the lion's share of the profit against Hatton, maybe he's lost them??
-
Re: Pac-Man, new balls please...
The question i want to know is does Pacman have to pay tax?Is that why he wants more cash than Hatton,,just a thought:-\:-\
-
Re: Pac-Man, new balls please...
I think Pac would ruin Hatton - sorry to say it :(
-
Re: Pac-Man, new balls please...
I guess Pac is doing some psy-war. Roach and Arum will be going to the Philippines and I know Pac-Hatton will push through with Pac getting the bigger share.
Pac will be assured of US$12million and it's foolishness to back out from that money. As a pacfan, I'd say this... Pac's a fool not to fight Hatton. Money should not even be considered here if he wants greatness.
Btw, Pac has never been afraid of anybody within his weight limit and @ 140, Pac will dominate Hatton. IMO
-
Re: Pac-Man, new balls please...
I think it's more to do with pride than money, after taking the shorter end in many fights which wouldn't have happened otherwise he feels he should be getting the champions share. It may still happen, his biggest beef is with Schaefer, Hatton's camp don't need him on the negotiating table.

My tense is fine, I am talking in present tense about what he HAD done, and how it reflects on who he is, at the moment.... idiot.

Yeah because who else has foughten guys like ODLH and JMM in the same year three weight classes apart? Also Christ should be capital considering its a name, it'd is hardly grammatically correct its "it would be". Also you use commas before a but.

Re: Pac-Man, new balls please...
Most people don't think about events that happen to others with any depth. Usually they just react to the news and draw some sort of conclusion like that "What is wrong with this guy?" "Man what an idiot! And what I could do with just some of that money!" “Greedy s..t”
Pacquiao is not like your typical elite boxer that made it to the top of his weight class. Some might compare his fame to that of Roberto Duran, but even his status pales to that of Pacquiao’s mega celebrity status. Pacquiao is no less famous in the Philippines than any President ever was. Even the reporters whine about having enough fair time amongst each other when he is available for the press and most don't even get a chance. When you watch some of 24/7 you get a feel for some of it. When his own wife, says like, I have to accept that he is public property now.
This may bend some people, but the truth Pacquiao doesn’t have the education level to know what a good contract is and what a great contract is and what a bad contract is by reading it. And I would even question his comprehension level in reading it. (If he had it translated into Tagalog he might) I know that from my own experience in reading legal documents that understanding them often takes rereading them several times and even having done that things often get misunderstood or missed. What this translates into is that most likely Pacquiao is relying heavily on what his advisers tell him what the contract entitles him to. If you have ever been lived in the Philippines you will understand the level of corruption that goes on and how much people go out of their way to calculate a con. Pacquiao is being distracted and being interfered with. His own people are messing him up. They are keeping him from communicating with Arum and Roach. And the only way he’ll wise up is to get out of the Philippines where is has undue influence and get some honest and proper advise from Freddy roach.
The man has balls the size of a bull! His people in the Philippines, while in the Philippines, are just stupid!

Re: Pac-Man, new balls please...
I think "Bomp" is right. It has to do more with pride than money.
In the same vein, I think the beef is with Arum though. I think Manny feels a bit betrayed that Arum's been doing' negotiations up in the others guy's kitchen. Then dissin, just expecting Pac to eat it up, just like in the past, like he has no say in the matter.
He learns it the hard way. In the past, he's been quoted to say... He does the fighting; his manager/promoter does all the matchmaking. He is slow to find out that with this business, this will not work. Humble pie is expensive, and nowhere in sight.
I believe in his mind, that if he allows this kind of negotiations, at this point... It will set precedence, and will have to deal with this sort without an end.
This is unacceptable for someone who has chosen the sidelines on the negotiations, on numerous occasions before. To do so again being in the dark, now that he has proven his worth, will be foolish.
He expects to have a say in the on goings. Arum is beneath the best set of scruples, to do otherwise.
Give the man his just due... Respect!
Time and again, he has proven it atop the ring.
And time and again he has earned it.

Re: Pac-Man, new balls please...
I honestly think that something maybe bigger and better could have come up for Pac.
I don't know what, probably Floyd. It's the one that makes sense to me! It would be a certain fight for the p4p title and I think that it could be worth more than Hatton!
I was at first thinking that maybe JMM has made an approach but it wouldn't make sense financially for Pac at the moment, unless he is just trying to silence the nay sayers that have been saying Marquez really beat him (like me).
No I see Floyd-Pac being announced shortly as someone else predicted in another thread! I def don't think it's that all of a sudden Pac has no balls.

do you seriously think pacquiao would go through all those negotiations and then just right at the last minute decide to pull out because floyd has come in with an offer??
And if their was a grain of truth in the pac/floyd rumours do you honestly believe it would draw in that much bigger box office figures than hatton/pacquiao to the extent that a virtual done fight would get postponed??
However much you love or hate ricky he`s the biggest draw in the sport because he has so much to offer not just inside the ring but out of it.

I like Ricky a lot. He's one of my favourite fighters but I think that Floyd is a bigger draw than him when he is in with someone he has a chance of losing against! See the ODLH fight, it was the biggest PPV fight in history and no matter how big Oscar was/is he can't do that on his own!

He didn't sign Hatton's contract, I don't see Hatton signing 60/40... Besides I think Arum plays a huge part in this, same with Roach. For people who say its a matter of principle, well Hatton should have no pride right now, These days being a belt champion means nothing, your p4p ranking, your level of opposition are what matter, and Pacquiao has him beat in both areas.

Hatton is not just a strap holder though, he is the legitimate undisputed lineal champ at 140 and has been since beating Tszyu. The title that matters that is on the line is the Ring Magazine 140 lb title, not just a strap. They are not fighting for the #1 p4p spot, because IF Hatton would win he would not necessarily become #1 p4p although the argument could be made for it.
Camp Hatton offered 52/48 in PACs favor guaranteeing a minimum of $12M, how much did PAC pocket against ODLH?

where did u get your facts from? 12 million was not gauranteed, if it was pac would of signed.
Mayweather-Pacquiao is Being Discussed By Both Sides - Boxing News
FYI pac got a 11 million gauranteed against dela hoya if memory serves me right and only 35%.
Do you really think 2% more is a lion share?
hatton needs this fight more, legacy wise. he can redeem himself against pac. Pac can take on other fighters and actually considers a fight against margarito. fighting hatton would be big fan wise, but legacy wise hatton is not the best out there for pac. But for hatton pac is the best match for him legacy wise. Hatton should of agreed to pacs demand.

Of course he has to pay tax.... but... the tax he pays to the Philippines has foreign tax exclusions in the US and may even offset his tax in the US. (There is even a chance if it's don right that the contract is done in a way that his earnings are off shore avoiding tax) Plus his tax lawyer should be able to get him lots of credit for bringing economy to the US, not to mention the economy he brings to the Philippines. A lot of his costs are also deductible. (Example his expenses for maintaining two homes, his security ext....) Some of the same is probably true for Hatton although I don't think he maintains a residence in the US. It would definetly be to his advantage. The UK does suck big time when it comes to tax so I don't think Hatton has it as good as Pacquiao. Gotta shutup here.... anway certainly they both have more tax saving advantages enough so that it should make Mayweather Jr. cry. (Imagine that...;))

EVen being the ring champion at 140 doesn't mean anything when compared with what Pacquiao has done. The fact the 140 pound division isn't as strong as it was 4-5 years ago. MOst of the people have moved on to welterweight or retired. Even if Pacquiao wins this belt, its not like he is going to stay around to defend it, he will either go back down to lightweight or fight Mayweather who wouldn't fight at 140.

Beating the undisputed lineal champ at 140 would mean a whole lot more to Pac's legacy than beating David Diaz at 135 (the weakest strap holder when Pac demolished him) and Oscar at 147, who was rated no where near the top of the division, considered way past his prime and didn't even possess a strap.
