Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
After those two beatings to the head. Another fight with cotto and he's headed for instant dementia. Its quite possible that shane softened cotto up for margo and cotto softened margo for shane. but nonetheless neither of them need to fight each other again. Esp Shane...Shane should be seeking PBF or the Hatton v PACMAN winner...anyone else just doesn't make sense.
If berto were to fight shane it would be like tito-vargas...the young guy being thrown into the pit a bit too early...he should fight clottey or cotto...shane is too old to have to prove himself worthy of one last mega fight...besides he'd kayo berto anyway.

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
It's possible...
- Imagine he's top of the world 6 months ago 'til yesterday and came back to the ground with a big thud...
- He got the worst beating in his life...
- He got to answer the "cheating" issue and might suffer grave consequences...

I wrote that a few hours before you posted his thread. Think about it and get back to me.

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
As I was watching the fight's last couple of rounds I was saying this too. I think it is very possible that Margarito took career damaging punishment in that fight. If I was someone near him I would advise him to ride off into the sunset and enjoy his riches in the life after boxing. Trinidad ruined David Reid and severely damaged Fernando Vargas. I was seeing the same kind of thing as Mosley was landing hard shot after hard shot. His chin is now broken. I really felt bad for Margarito because his corner wanted to throw in the towel but his pride let him go out like that. I think there are some good times to throw in the towel that are honorable. It was not like DLH quitting on the stool. DLH was just flat, was getting beat to the punch, only was getting marked up but was never noticeably hurt. The damage Margarito was taking was getting scary and dangerous. That was pure punishment, the kind that ruins.

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
Absolutly.I asked the same of Cotto after their match and a devestaing KO loss.Tony is no different, same with any fighter entering the ring.Margarito was shut down and shot down brutally.Physically, they might be fine but the next big fight will be in his head and the questions that come rushing back.
Personally,I think he can rebound.Time will tell.

Oh! boy the return of JonesJrMayweather...
How exciting.
Did Taeth call you or did you show up on your own?
Suprised you haven't done a thread yourself saying "Mayweather would have killed Margarito"...
JonesJrMayweather, refresh my memory again what was that question you asked of Durans career?

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
Shure,he can come back,as long as he`s not found guilty of out-right cheating,
Gatti used to take those type of Ass Whuppins twice a year sometimes.
While it`s true that some guy`s are never the same,IMO most guy`s are, believe it or not,.... 99% of the fighter`s have been beat-up before somewhere along the lines, even if we did`nt get to see it.the fight was punishing,no doubt, because that`s what it took to beat that tough Sum Bitch down,I really hope Marg did`nt attempt to cheat,he doesnt seem like that type of guy,but hey,...neither does Mosley?

Of duran? lol
"Name the great that made him great"
Ive come to terms with duran being an atg..but top 10 p4p. no.
And I said mayweather would beat tony long time ago. nothing stupid like he'd stop him. i believe i said 120-108. and floyd is retired. and this fight does show what i felt a long time ago. shane would beat floyd. any version of him. 154,147,140,135 shane wins. I think that was fours years ago when i said that.
but i see the forum has some new guys that just make you want to :boxing2:

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
Its hard to say. Cotto hit him with a lot of horrible shots but Mosley took the legs from beneath Margarito completely. Brutal as hell. Mosley was throwing with nasty intentions.
Margarito will be back, but I have a hard time seeing him recovering from this totally.

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
His invincibility cloak has now gone, plus he's been concentrating even less on defense last couple of years relying on his chin. Now that it has failed him It's going to be a huge uphill struggle to get back to where he was.

Very true. Now guys fighting him will know his chin isn't made of iron & he can be hurt or KO'd. I'm sure Shane thought he could win via decision, I wonder @ what point/round he thought: "Screw the decision, I'm hurting this guy & can knock this mofo out!"?

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
Sure. And if he has been softened up it will be rough for him as he has no way of fighting except war of attrition type fighting, he can't bullshit his way through a few rounds, a fight, etc.
BTW I don't think by any means Shane softened up Cotto, that's way overestimating the amount of damage he inflicted on Cotto.

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
I didn't think he looked right from the start.. but don't want to take anything away from Mosley. Margarito's best fight would have still lost.
It's almost certain that the fight will have a lasting effect on him.. obvioulsy not in a good way.

Must be why cotto was running from shane in the latter part of the fight.

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
Margarito is done as far as a top welterweight. It would have been one thing if Mosley had beat him on the cards, but not only did Mosley brutally knock Margarito out, he also established that by sticking to the blueprint of combination punching from distance, going to the body, and clinching, beats Margarito. Also, Margarito couldn't adjust. He saw what Mosley was doing, but he didn't know how to react.
It is doubtful Margarito beats Cotto next time around, but if he were to beat Cotto again, then it may be the case that Shane just has his number. Like Margarito has Cintron's.

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
I think that there is a good chance that he is finished. The thing that enabled him to make opponents fear him was his chin, & that was his big selling point to the media. This was the man who COULDN'T be knocked out. Now that that is clearly no longer true, I think it will be tough for him to be the same fighter he was. Still a lot of admiration for the guy as a fighter

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
i think a fighter can only take so many punches before it starts to catch up with them and nobody takes more flush punches in a fight than margarito.

Check out Librado Andrade (he looks like Margarito's uglier older brother & that's sayin somethin) he literally defends with his face so he can get his punches off.

Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
This past fight could have cracked Toni's chin but I think it just showed the way everyone should fight Margarito if they want to win. Miguel Cotto was probably kicking himself by the 3rd round of the Margarito-Mosley fight because he had the opportunity to do exactly what Mosley did but he moved too much and took the power off his punches and tired himself out.
ALSO there is the BIG issue of illegal handwraps, was Toni using illegal wrapping when he beat Cotto? Is that the reason he damn near took that guy's ear off? There are SERIOUS questions about Toni's career from this fight....but he does have heart, I'll give him that
-
Re: Isn't it possible that Margarito is ruined for good..
Think both Cotto and Cintron power is over rated big time i think Mosley did to Margarito because he is was mentally and phsically thougher then both those guys put together not only that but with his speed his power is more effective Margarito has never had punches hurt him that bad.

Im going to put it like this. If all this handwrap issue is true then its pretty hard for anyone to think that he never used plaster in the first place. If he used it against Mosley then he used it in his other fights IMO.
