Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
With Calzaghe stating his retirement yesterday i thought i'd make a thread to the great Undefeated champ! No Haters allowed:mad:.I'll miss him for sure. For me Calzaghe had the best boxing brain inside the ring.We know that his power in his left hand faded due to past injuries, but he always had skill and experience to get through and win the fight in style. For me the Jeff Lacy was the best ever display of Calzaghe's.All the best joe!!
Which one of Calzaghes fights did you think was best??
I'll miss you!

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
for me best fight was jeff lacey as in career wise for calzaghe i remember gettin back from the pub with my friends & goin insane when he was beatin his arse down:) reminded me of when mcclellan came over to beat up on old poor nigel benn. except for the tragic event, there is many similarities

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
Looking back i think his best performance was against Kessler.Lacy was just a master class but now we know Lacy was abit over raterd even though he was never going to be the same fighter after that beating anyway.
Against Kessler he showed the great chin he has the warrior in him and the the versitility by changing game plan in mid round thats why i think it was his best performance.

I know he was a big favorite, but after he took a beating he never looked the same since, people said he was over rated. Or is it that he took that bad a beating he carnt recovery mentaly plus the fact he got injured.

he was undefeated & i think joe destroyed him bigtime & he was finished after that fight, if that fight hadnt of happened then i truely believe that lacy would of been dominent in the division once joe moved up.

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
Surely Calzaghe has the best chin, stamima, work rate, and the most technical skills inside the ring in the game of boxing in recent times!!I truly wished he'd have one more fight left in him!
Even the haters of Calzaghe will miss him sooner or later.Calzaghe was a joy to watch!!;)

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
Mate anyone who doesn't recognise that What JC did to Kessler alone should shut any "hater" up and is no Boxing fan and clueless with it.
They hate because they are jealous!
Kessler (IN HIS PRIME and JC at 35 years old) was a big betting favourite as was Lacy at the time and Joe dealt with both in style and made them both look the older man and slaughtered them with ring skills that they simply couldn't deal with.....he gave both a boxing lesson.
Not the most devestating puncher but was Ali a 1 punch Ko artist?
Like you said his granite chin, speed, ability etc were second to none and he'd always go for a tear up and entertain if needed.
Can anyone remember Joe being backed up for more than a few seconds against an opponent?
haha these haters are just jealous fools at the end of the day and no true fight fan would ever see him as anything other than a great great fighter.
Seem to remember Wacko being one of his biggest fans and having nothing but respect for Joes boxing brain.
The man weren't wrong was he:cool:
DON'T RULE OUT A COMEBACK....because his stock doubles if he's coming out of "retirement" £$£$£$£$£$£$£$£
I think he may fight again;)
If he stays retired then he goes down as one of the best fighters to grace the ring and certainly in recent times..look at his record and it speaks for itself.
Best boxing night of my life was watching him destroy Lacy in Manchester and the atmosphere was electric and that stands alone as the most dominant world title fight peformance ever by a UK fighter.
The fight game has lost a proper star in JC and he'll be sorely missed.
Gonna make this a sticky for a while so the true fans can have their say!

Well spoken!I could'nt say it better myself.I think he could well make a comeback soon.I've said it before, that if anythink someone"Maybe Hopkins"will call out Calzaghe while he's over at Vagas to watch the Hatton vs Pacman fight. He'll get called out while he is at Hattons weigh-in,i bet!!!;)
-
Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
Bet your life that JC will be there and Hopkins will be all over him and baiting him up at the weigh in and ringside...
IF it could happen in Wales and generate huge money for Joe then he might take the bait.
All depends if Hopkins can get him thinking but i doubt it as anyone who watched it saw JC beat a cheating pussy looking for a way out in the last few rounds;)
-
Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
although i think joe made the right decision, it does make me sad to think that ill never be able to look forward to one of his fights again. the guy was a master that always found a way to win. i hope he enjoys his retirement, he deserves it.

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
At the end of the day, Calzaghe is great fighter. No doubt about it.
One of my favourites since before I even joined here and all the way through up until now.
I wouldnt mind him coming back and beating up Chad Dawson later this year, but I guess not. He obviously could do it though.
Best of luck to Joe, he's the fighter I have talked about most on here. And its a shame he has to be going, but people get old and time keeps on a ticking. Mad props.

yeah, and i think it speaks volumes of how great a fighter calzaghe is after hopkins dominated pavlik. i think if calzaghe got to pavlik first it would of been lacy kind of domination.

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
Haters of Calzaghe come and go on here and i've seen it so many times...
Hopkins was robbed...Joe's shit..... blah blah blah.
I ask anyone this.....
Why would a man look to get his opponent DQ'd from a fight in order to win if he was winning it anyway?
Hopkins knew full well he was being dominated and soundly beaten which is why he cheated.
A fighter who knew he was winning just wouldn't pull that kind of shit!
End Of.

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
After reading this (And he is quoted) you just get the feeling he's still itching for another Huge challenge!!
Joe Calzaghe Admits He'd Have Carried On Fighting - If He'd Been A Welterweight!

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
For CALZAGHE to come out of retirement he'll have to be tempted and offerd the right kind of opponant"Chad Dawson for example and also offered a great purse too.To get him out there to fight for one last time will take money and the right opponant,"someone worth fighting for!"Is Dawson the guy in question?I dont know, but if he wants to have a crack at Calzaghe then he'll have to do it no later than May the 2nd,,,"If you know what i mean;)(at Vegas, during Hattons weigh-in).We'll wait and see eh!!:)I'd put a bet on it!!
-
Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
I bet all you Feckers could get a discount for a hotel room to celebrate this Calzaghe love fest
;D
Just joking.. One of Great Britain's finest and superb fighter of this era, Mr. Joe Calzaghe;)
-
Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
To my mind, one of the finest boxers I've seen....up there with Ray Leonard, Ali, Chavez and PBF. Better than Roy Jones, and certainly superior to B Hop.
I didn't rate him for years, and was only finally convinced by his demolition of Lacey, truly the closest thing I've ever seen to a 12 round masterclass.
He gets knocked for the quality of oponent he faced early on, but a quick squint through Roy Jones' back catalogue, or B Hop's, is enough to remind you that they fought a huge number of nobodies. The problem when you are as good as those guys, or Joe, is that at any given time, most opponents are going to be over-matched. So, even if they come into a fight with a reputation, they leave with it in tatters. Ask Roy Jones.
The pinnacle fights, with two Hall of Fame level fighters taking each other on at the peak of both their careers, are few and far between in any era.
When Roy Jones and BHop fought, in their prime, it was actually a bit tedious. Both of them ran scared. Roy Jones won by virtue of better in and out speed, but he seemed afraid to take it to Hopkins. Hopkins has always regretted not being more offesive in that fight, but it's hard to break a habit. Jones never fought anyone with Calzaghe's speed, chin and agression combined, even at his peak, and I suspect Joe would have beaten him by virtue of having a bigger heart. RJJ has everything, but the ability to take punishment and come back. Every time he has come under severe pressure, he has crumbled.
BHop is a spoiler, and a cheat, and I'm afraid that I was wrong to rate him ahead of Calzaghe for so many years.
So Joe can bow out now, and I hope he understand that the best way to improve his legacy is defeat his biggest foe now, the tempotation to return. Younger fighters will be compared unfavourably to him for years to come.

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
he joins Marciano as the only champ to retire undefeated (ok and Lopez - but he drew ;)) so end of argument. He will always have his haters - but what do those people expect him to do now ??
He fought everyone worth fighting - ok it took a while and I got a bit sick of him a few years ago when he wouldn't leave Wales I admit.
Theres nothing to prove by fighting Dawson and a Hopkins rematch would be plain dulll.
It's a real shame Joe came along a little bit too late to be part of the Benn Eubank Collins era - else we would have had our own four kings era to speak of
Happy retirement Joe ;)

Yep, people will have opinions but I think he has had a fantastic career, got out of the game at exactly the right time and done the UK proud.

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
Hi they Calzaghe fans.Try and be 100% honest to this next question:"Should Calzaghe of had one more last fight before he retired, just the extra one:-\?"
P.S,there should be a Poll set up on here based on the question!!I would make one but i dont know how to.I would totally appreciate it if someone made one. That way we could judge on what people feel about Calzaghe retire!!
Cheers!;)

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
just finished watching calzaghe-kessler and still stick with my opinion it was one of the greatest performances from a british fighter in recent history.
Kessler was completely dominating what was at the time a fight and his strength was genuinely dictating the pace of the fight up until the end of the 5th when enzo gave calzaghe a stern talking too.
From then on in JC blew kessler away with quick hands and foot speed running complete rings around kessler who had no answer for it.

No - theres no one left to beat from his era. Job done. And if he did and wins then beating Marciano's record may enter his mind and he may go one step too far

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
Some people feel obliged to hate on Calzaghe, that'll never change, its every posters prerogative to dislike fighters for little or no apparent reason. I should like Glenn Johnson but I cant :-\
All you need to do is look at the many 'I was wrong about Calzaghe' posts that have cropped up post Lacy. Thats the measure of how good he was.
I remember one of Mad_Dogs comments after Lacy, "Joe fights like he's got six arms" ;D

HA!Cant believe someone said that:-Xtheir call him Jeff "LEFT-HOOK" Lacy, but we never ever really seen his trademark "LEFT-HOOK" did we when he fought Calzaghe?:-\Lacy was totally rattle by the speed and volumme of Joe's punches and work rate.It was fantasic to watch,,,UNBELIEVABLE really.I've watched that fight tonnes of times on dvd and it excites me every time.I remember watching it live on t.v and i was totally blown away!Great performance!:)

Why can't calzaghe fan beat as honest as Joe? Pay close attention and read Joe's last quote carefully!!! ;)
I am the best, says honest Joe | Sport | This is London

Re: Calzaghe Fans Thread!!
Joe has to go down as one of the best boxers of the last 30 years and probably the best of British in my opinion!!
He has it all technique, movement, skill, speed, stamina, intelligenc e and had a fucking great punch early on in his career until the hand injuries started...
which only goes to show how good he really is, having had to adapt his style and then only punching at 50% capacity to protect the hands!!
He has his doubters and haters...but so fuck...they are wrong in their criticisms and time will eventually concede how good the underrated Calzaghe really was!!
