Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Does anybody feel a kind of sad humiliation and pity for Joe Frazier when you see him getting knocked about like a rag doll in the Foreman fights, esp. the 1st one? Not only that he was the champ and coming off of some stellar victories, like over Ali 2 years before, but that he was a bit too small and was getting shoved and clubbed around so pitifully.
I was about 8 years old when I saw the fight the week later on regular t.v., and can still hear Cosell's dramatic and shocking commentary.
Maybe my young age, and seeing that type of horrific damage being done, I dunno, but it still is kinda upsetting to me in a strange way.
NO other fight I can recall made me feel like that. Does anybody have a particular fight or fighter that they feel something similar to this about? Or am I just seeing it this way for some reason?

Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..

I felt bad for Lacy and Roy in the Calzaghe fights.....I feel bad for both Izzy and Raf Marquez in their fights. They just beat the crap out of each other.......

Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
I felt bad for Cotto at the end of the Margarito fight.
Watching Steve Molitor get utterly outclassed and knocked out in front of his hometown fans his first time on U.S. tv. That one hurt.
Foreman - Frazier as well.
Corrales - Mayweather: I wasn't even a boxing fan when it took place, but when I watched it for the first time years later I felt terrible for Chico, one of my all time favorites.
Mora - Forrest II: I'm one of the few fans of Sergio Mora, I was very pleased when he won the title and proved many of his detractors wrong, but Forrest absolutely pummeled him in the rematch.
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Cotto against Margarito and Hatton against Mayweather.
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Ali-Holmes broke my heart,it wasnt Larry's fault he was doing his job,but Ali was my idol as a kid

Mcall wgetting beaten up by Lewis. He wanted out the fight . He didnt wana be in there anymore and was even crying but was too stupid to take a count or sit it out . He just took a sustained beating around the head . Felt sad for him

Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Paul Ingle in his tragic last fight against Mbulelo Botile, Ingle wasnt right from the first round but showed the heart of a warrior and refused to give up and it ended in a brain clot.Great little fighter a shame it happens every now and then.

Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
I actually did feel sorry for De La Hoya when he lost to Pacquiao...to just see in his eyes that drained and beaten look, it's horrible for someone who once was so hungry for it and then to see him lose it. I actually felt as if Pacquiao went a little less hard on him as the fight went on too, it was harsh.

Now he knows how Chavez felt all those years back
Pac will get beaten like that too when he faces someone younger than himself.

Yeah that was a very hard one to watch.
When Holmes looked over at the ref with an expression of,"Why in the hell arent you stopping this?"It was almost too much to see.
Here is arguably the greatest heavyweight, nay fighter,of all time just getting peppered at will, even Holmes has said he wanted the fight over but Ali wouldnt go the hell down. And the ref wouldnt stop it.
It made me want to cry

Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
I felt sorry for Richard "Destroyer" Hall against Roy Jones Jr.
That was one of the worst beatings I've ever seen a guy take.
Hall was an absolute warrior to take that.
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Corrales vs Mayweather
DLH vs Pacquiao
Ali vs Holmes
Frazier vs Foreman
not as much but still Jones vs Calzaghe (to see Jones lose so badly when he would have dominated in his prime)

I was about to say the same thing. It's not like Lewis was totally beating McCall with great technique. It was more about McCall not wanting to do anything. And then see him cry? :( I wonder what he was going through.

Exactly Game. I've been saying it all the time. Fighters getting credit for beating a big name who happens to be way older, passed his prime, drained, etc.
I felt bad for Cotto. He's a guy who's not known for being a trash talker. Takes care of business and so on. He was just starting to face quality opossition when he lost the way he did :( .
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Maybe because its recent, the Oscar-Pac fight was truly horrible to watch if you weren't biased either way, the hype didn't help. Jones-Calzaghe had elements to it because of knowing what Jones once was. I've made a conscious effort to avoid ever watching Ali-Holmes

Is that Tysons Dad?
The same guy who said hed beat both Klits now and he would beat any version of George Foreman, Tyson Fury will not make it to the top.
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Jones Jr. and Lacy getting slapped back and forth up the ring by Calzaghe.
Julio looking for a way out against Kirkland.
Tyson getting reality knocked out of him by Lewis.
Gatti getting battered pillar to post by Mayweather.
Gomez finally be brutalized to have nothing left on a jab after taking brutal punishment.
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Tracy Spann getting whitewashed against Ray Olivera....and years later Olivera in agony, screaming, yelling but Not quitting vs.Augustus
Keeny Keene just being beaten pillar to post by arthur Williams.Pernell Whitaker in his last fight...Ubaldo Hernandez ???Shoulder all messed up.
Once power house phenom Tony Ayala in his comeback getting thrashed and staying on his stool vs...Bonsante...............Nah,JK I loved that one;D
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Almost forgot, Davey Moore vs. Roberto Duran. Poor guy was getting battered.

Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Felix Trinidad vs Winky Wright- Pretty bad when Titos corner has no advice for the ass whooping.
Roy Jones vs Montell Griffin II- No one expected that especially Montell.
Sam Peter vs Vitali Klitschko- Peter outclassed and battered
Diego Corrales vs Floyd Mayweather- Floyd shined that night against the warrior.
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
De La Hoya vs Chavez
Pacquiao vs De La Hoya
Gomez vs Gatti
And just recently Klitschko vs Gomez

Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Thank you to all the posters here, you have pointed out some really great examples of this sad feeling I mentioned I got.
Yes, Gatti/Mayweather, I felt so sorry for Gatti when he was crying on his stool after he quit, and yes Old Chavez and old Ali, and also felt bad for Oscar the way he really got totally outclassed by Pac.
I will think of more soon I guess.
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Yes, Ayala's comeback fight, the way he cried when he coulnt continue, the man wasnt used to losing, never even experienced it until then, it was sad.
I didnt feel too bad for Tito vs Winky, because Tito had hurt so many fighters himself.
Oh, I really felt bad for Hplmes the way Tyson KO'd him in '88. That one kinda bothered me too, the way the Foreman/Frazier I fight bothered me.
Felt a bit bad for Kostya too the way Ricky demolished him. But not too bad!

The worst crime about McAll is that he was actually a top tier Heavy. He had more skills than I think people give him credit for.

Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Got to be Morrison v Mercer
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Chavez getting beat up by ODLH
Paez getting beat up by JLC
Ali getting beat by Berbick
Alexis losing the 2nd fight to Aaron (Not the 1st because in my books Alexis beat Aaron and was cheated)
Chacon getting busted up by Mancini
Cobb getting mauled by Holmes was hard to see
I've never seen Duran-Joppy eventhough I have a copy of the fight. Maybe I'll see it one day. But I'm sure it'll strike a nerve.
Seeing footage of Meldrick Taylor trying to fight despite obvious signs that he couldn't was a sad sight.

Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
I just remembered this one...
Ncita getting battered by Lizarraga was pretty gut wrenching.
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
The one for me has to be when Evander was stopped off Toney. I mean all due respest to Toney but that wasn't the man who beat the likes of Bowe, Tyson, Douglas, Mercer etc...
The problem is he still doesn't know it himself!
-
Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Last 2 rounds of Cotto-Margarito is still disturbing to watch.
Linares-Larios
Darchinyan-Borgus
Morales-Zaragoza
I find Gatti's late boxing career hard to watch.

Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Some people are mentioning Chavez vs ODLH but I don't think it was as bad as Chavez vs Tszyu. When Chavez faced ODLH for the first time. It was stopped on cuts but it was not like Chavez' legs couldn't even hold him. On the second fight, he just didn't come out for more but when it comes to him simply being dominated, I'll say it was when he faced Tszyu. It was sad to see the old Mexican warrior getting beaten like that. I hate to see big names staying in the ring longer than they should.

Re: Boxers who got beat so bad you felt sorry..
Terry Norris vs both Dana Rosenblatt and Laurent Bouduani. Neither makes it past 5 in Norris prime
