Cotto Officially Begins Training Camp For Clottey
WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto has officially begun his training camp for the unification bout with IBF champ Joshua Clottey, taking place on June 13 at New York's Madison Square Garden. There is a good chance that Cotto-Clottey will land on HBO's World Championship Boxing, and not their pay-per-view arm.
Phil Landman, a fitness expert from South Africa, has done wonders with Cotto in the past and is already part of the camp for the Clottey fight. Cotto is pleased with fighting in New York, on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade, for the fourth time in his career.
"Phil Landman will be working with us for the next fight. It will be the fourth time that I will be fighting before the Puerto Rican Parade and it's has become something that I look forward to," said Cotto to Primera Hora .

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
I pick the tough defense minded Clottey over Cotto primarily on the basis of their respective performances against their common opponents in Margacheato and Judah...
Cotto quits against Margo in the 11th round while Clottey took Margo to a close UD loss...
Judah quits against Clottey in the 9th round while Cotto TKOs Judah in the 11th...
Clottey is also much bigger than Cotto...

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
I've got Cotto winning but I think it will be a gruelling fight!

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
I'm gonna go with Clottey, although that might be my heart ruling my head. I think it will be a close fight whoever takes it, and I would say Cotto might be the favourite should it go to the cards, but I've got a feeling Clottey might wear him down & take him out in the last two rounds.

How is Clottey much bigger than Cotto who used to come into the ring at light welterweight at 160 pounds before he moved up. ALso Judah was stopped because of a cut wasn't he? He was fighting competitively with Clottey.
No doubt Clottey has the better chin, but Cotto is faster, hits harder, better technically. I am not saying Cotto can't lose this fight, he looked hesistant and less than impressive in his last outing, but Clottey is definitely the underdog and for good reason. I see this being similar to Cotto against Lovemore Ndou or Abdullaev.

Clottey has a bigger frame and taller than Cotto... Clottey comes to a welter fight in the 170 lbs. range... You'll be surprise on fight night to see how small Cotto will be compared to Clottey...
Judah was looking for a way out from that fight... When the ring doctor asked him "how many fingers?", he answered "six"... :) j/k

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
IMO , obviously to me Cotto will win , by TKO , once Clottey feel Cottos body punches , it going to be a another story , it going be a great fight , i like Clottey he is a stronger boxer , he looks like as N`Duo physically , but is slow technically.................

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
Cotto all the way, no problem at all.

Won't give Clottey the skills to win if he could gain 23+ lbs

he did not quit, give me a break, the ref stopped because of the cut, and Clottey was far from dominating, he won a Technical Decision and barely with scores of, Duane Ford 87-84, Glenn Trowbridge 86-85, George Hill 86-85, he's only 1 inch taller than Cotto and has a 3 inch reach advantage, but Clottey also has a very small waist which usually don't hold up that well against body shots, especially Cotto like left hooks to the body, i'd go so far to say that Cotto gave Judah his worst BEATING, Tszyu giving him the most brutal KO of his career, the fight should be a bit competitive, and Clottey does have a chance to win it, but i see Cotto winning a comfortable UD, 7 or 8 rounds to 5 or 4.

He did quit & it shouldn't have been a TD as the cut was actually caused by a punch. Judah knew the fight was getting further away from him & looked for a way out. Cotto did give him a bad beating but he was doing a lot of dirty shit to do it (not that I minded, nice to see Judah get some of his own medicine).

Clottey did not dominate early in the Judah fight but when Clottey started to bust Judah, I think Judah was looking for a way out (quit) and the cut was a very good reason for the way out...

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
I think this will be a great fight. i think Cotto is going to sharp shoot and win the first 4-5 rounds but Clottey has an iron chin and super stamina so he will keep coming and close the gap in the middle/late rounds. I think Cotto by decision.
Cotto cant fade like he did for Mosley and Margarito. I just hope Cotto comes in with top stamina....

Granting Judah rocked Clottey, he's still the BIG loser in that fight and from what I saw, IMO he quit...

Never said he was but I'm saying it anyway. Your using performances of Margarito, a proven cheat, as some kind of measuring stick to how this fight would pan out.
Margo, without his plaster, had no confidence in his punches againsed Shane.

Dissapointed this is taking place as i was rather hoping they`d throw cintron in with cotto solely for my amusement ;D;D;D

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
No shame in getting rocked by Judah, the guy had thunder in his left hand....he even legitimately knocked down mayweather, (mayweather's glove touched the canvas but was ruled a slip).
That being said, Judah did quit in the Clottey fight....
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
Clottey doesn't throw enough punches.
Cotto by decision.

I'm talking about common opponents and you throw in the name of Mosley which is way out of the subject matter...
Regarding Margacheato, we can assumed he used plaster in both the Cotto and Clottey fights... The plaster made Cotto quit while apparently no effect on Clottey... Go figure that...

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
People keep brining up Mosley fight as if it was a clear win for Cotto one of closes fights could of gone anyway kel as for this fight. Cotto has shown he slows done big time late in fights in Mosley and Margarito fight what ever people say so who knows whats going to happen.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
Im not 100% certain that Clottey has the mentality to back Cotto and keep him there. Can let off the gas at times. But he is a very strong, defensivly capable and a repectable puncher.Cotto should respect that right hand throughout.....and for gods sake Do not square up on the ropes!!
Walking the fence on this one.Seeing Cotto has come very far, added some smooth boxing and matured.Awesome jab.He might just turn this into a sharp shooting display for a 12 round call.Leaning that way

Nope only in the Cotto fight. Only because how Cotto's face swollen up... that was nasty.. Mosley was landing harder right hands in Cotto and look how his face looked at the end of the fight.

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
Puya taht like em saying first time he ever tryed it was with Mosley because tell truth make more sense wouldnt to you dude. Cotto has a suspect chin and poor stamina ant the end of fights and cuts easy. Mosley iron jawed hardly ever cuts and has great stam at the end. To me it would make more sense to cheat in Mosley fight he had ever thing Margarito would have problems with but thats just a thought there since were trying to say when he used the wraps my guess as good as anyones.

To me is just a plain situation of common sense. What I mentioned in my post earlier and that fact that Cotto was the favorite in this fight and it was Margos biggest fight ever. In the Mosley fight he was the favorite, Cotto already won vs Mosley and Mosley is 37 years already.
That is enough for me to believe he use PLaster with cotto
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
We can assume anything about Margacheato...
We can assume he used plaster in Cotto and Cintron but didn't used in Mosley (obviously), Clottey and Williams...
Or we can assume he used plaster in all his fights...
Your assumption is as good as mine...

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
Cotto UD. Too fast for Clottey. But Clottey will be a threat until the final bell.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
I think Cotto beats Clottey quite handily. Cotto is too smart a boxer for Clottey and will outbox him. I see it being a clear UD for Cotto. It's a good matchup after the relatively straightforward Jennings win.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto welter unification fight, who will win?
So styles make fights Puya and Mosley style was bad for Margarito i still think the Cotto fight could of gone Mosley way was very close fight. Cotto has been cut up in alot of his fights so just because he was cut up and bleeding does not sure surprise me in the Margarito fight.

same here
what the fuck is wrong with saddos and all this cotto hating all of a sudden.
The guys a fucking animal at 147 and easily the best in the toughest division right now.
Apart from....
A-A mayweather return
B-Juan Manuel Marquez finding his feet at 147 and becoming as destructive at the weight as he is at 135
Cotto will never be beaten again!!
