Now what?
Dominated Jameel McCline. Exciting like a heavyweight should be. At 255, dropping combinations like it was nothing. Took a punch to land one and dominated Jameel.

Has Jameel ever been knocked out like that?
I thought he looked good, but Jameel is hard fighter to gauge off of. I'd like to see him with a Ibragimov/Povetkin/Chagaev type fighter. I think he is still 1-3 fights away from being ready for the Klits brothers.
Back when it meant something.
"The Nightmare" is going to be when Cris has to fight for more than 4 rounds! And that's when those combinations won't be flowing like they were tonight. I hate to rain on the parade, but Cris only did what was expected and nothing more.
Keep in mind McCline was retired and came in on 6 weeks notice. He is not a top ten Heavyweight.
I think it was a good win for Arreola but I am still not convinced he will be a champ. I think either Klitchsko will KO Areolla with relative ease.
I think if he actaully trained harder and came in better shape he could be great but he doesnt appear to have the discipline to be a champ.....
Just my opinion....
He did show some thinking.Did not go hell bent and face first.Thats good and some maturity. He is still very hitable but you could see him working on things tonight..actually slipped some jabs :o;D.
the guy needs to be @ 230ish no question about it
exactly what i was thinking, that's why i was pointing out that Klitschko already brutally knocked him out, i already had McCline at journeyman status against Peter, but i can't take away from Cris he has power, but he also got whacked cleanly a bunch of times against a fighter who isn't known as a hard puncher, IMO Chambers beats Arreola, and both Klitschkos knock him out
Chambers looked solidly overweight in his fight against Peters. There is no denying that.
Sig bet if it happens? It is a logical fight actually. Chambers is coming off his biggest victory and Arreola is coming off of a big one. I'll take that any day of the week.
There is no denying that Arreola has many flaws and some of that is due to his weight. But, I stick by that he is always entertaining. He could fight Sultan Ibragimov and even if in loss, it would be an entertaining scrap. Moreover, he is probably the best Mexican American heavyweight ever.
He should stay way from the Klitschkos at least for another fight or two and meanwhile come down gradually in weight to 240. Chambers is a good fight for him.
He will be Wlad's nightmare.
McCline was retired and was offered a good amount of money to come back and fight Chris. He was there to collect a check as soon as things didnt go so well. He made an effort early on but he had that look of, well that enough for me when he was knocked down. He could have beaten the count but what would be the point. Just listen to the post fight interview he knew he was there to made Chris look good.
I don't know...
Heavyweights have more leeway to move up and down in weight to suit the particular need. Arreola's coming in at 250+ didn't exactly hurt him against McCline, who came in at 270+ himself. Against a better, lighter, faster opponent, yes...... Arreola had better come in around 230-ish.
Man I thought it was funny they showed the Joe Frazier and Ali fight documentary before these fat fuckks fought. That is what heavys are supposed to look like. These guys make a mockery of pugilism.
First thing Chris has to do is change his last name. It just ain't right to be named after part of a woman's tit.
:)
My god the man has tits is what I first said then damn that man with tits is dropping bombs on Big Time. Impressed but not very impressed. He lunges entirely to much with the jab and leaves himself wide open for overhand right's all night long but he comes to fight.
I will say one thing I wish Haye throws the Klitschko contract away and sign's for Arreola. You want excitement this would be it and a perfect set-up to fight the champ. Not some cheap bullshit way on calling the champ out and getting a shot do to his big mouth. The public should push for this fight first being that Haye has fought no one in the heavyweight's worth anything. I would definetly go with Arreola by KO on that one. If everyone can see that these two need a few more fight's before fighting the Klitschko's. Don't you think they can see it as well? Oh well.
I give Cris credit for doing what he was supposed to do despite how fat he is...the guy USED to be a light heavyweight as an amateur and now he's a pig of a heavyweight. Sure he KO'd McCline, but what if Jameel hadn't been on the fence about retiring, what if he came to fight and took Cris the distance and even worse what if Jameel had pressured Cris??? Cris is going to lose and soon, and it won't be because of skill as much as lack of training and taking fights seriously.....can you see him beating Wladimir when he comes in at 255?!?!?! I sure as hell don't! Wlad is in shape AND he's athletic enough to box circles around Arreola, who wouldn't last 5 rounds with Wlad unless he gets himself in better shape.
Eddie Chambers is fat because he has to be fat to be a heavyweight, he could easily fight at cruiserweight...but where is the money in that? I agree Eddie needs to work on his stamina, but bringing up more out of shape heavyweights only proves the points everyone is trying to make about why the division is so weak.
I agree with booze, no heavyweight PERIOD should look like Arreola or McCline did last night. They are supposed to be PRO athletes and they need to conduct themselves as such. You can run down the list of heavyweight champions and they have all been in great shape...even Old George Foreman, he was in better shape at age 45 than either of those guys in the ring last night and Evander Holyfield at age 45 is in better shape than those guys right now.
I want to say that fighters should get fined for coming into fights out of shape, but defining what "in shape" and "out of shape" is would be difficult....all I know is Cris is going to come across a fighter who will take the fight seriously and he's going to lose
Listen: I agree Vlad/Vitali would be a big step up for Cris right now - maybe too big of a step up. However, I like his odds against most of the other heavyweights in the top ten, but I agree I would like his odds more if he came into the fight in better shape. The odd thing is allegedly he worked harder for this fight than for his last fight yet he weighed more in this fight. I guess he worked on weights rather than cardio.
On other hand, he looked more focused in this fight and I think fought better than many people thought he would. Correct me if I'm wrong, but many people called Jameel to upset Cris in this fight or that the fight would go into the championship rounds. It didn't. Cris ended it in 4.
and McCline also had just come out of retirement and wasn't anywhere close to the top 10, and from what i remember most said he'd only give Nipple boy probs if he underestimated him, i give credit to Cris that he didn't and picked up a decent win, but in no way did he prove he deserves to be on top of the division
Lyle is right, Areola is definitely out of chape for a professional athlete at this stage (top 15 world).
He's going to get crush by a fighter who'll take him at a high pace after 5 rounds or a professional athlete like wlad or vitali...
I'm really wondering what this guy is eating during his training camp, he needs to have someone looking for his weight. I remember him saying during a post fight interview how great he felt at 235lbs, and that he'll never get back above 240.
now at 250, because he feel he's strong, he thinks 250 is okay...whata mistake. the people around him are not good, let the man eat whatever he wants because he's still strong at 250 is really unprofessional. f**** force him to run and to eat healthy !
if he doesn't change his habits, he's going to pay another bill taht the restaurant's one.
a good example of a magnificient athlete who came on a exellent shape was Tyson. this fighter was great to do that...
since I'm myself out of shape and just at the same weight :-), I won't agree to call such names for that weight :-)))))
at least when fighting at amateur I was at 220-225. :-)
I'm sorry, but he won't probably ever ready for the Klitschko brothers, they move too much, and they are too elusive. That movement will limit his combinations, both of their jabs will pick him apart. Samuel Peter might not have his chin, but IMO he was faster when he was fresh than Arreola, and he couldn't find Wladimir when he came in at 244 not over 250. For Arreola to stand a chance he needs to drop below 225.
Which is exactly the point sebs... I'm an Amatuer fighter myself and I bust my balls to stay fit and in shape... I don't get any media exposure outside of a mention in a newspaper, I don't get paid or make a living from it and I'm not in contention to fight for a world title/fight the elite fighters in my weight class.
I still look like somebody who at least resembles an athlete though... ;)
