Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
IMO and many will disagree, I think Floyd Mayweather cant take a punch and he knows it, like Roy Jones and Fernando Vargas and Lennox Lewis, all really REALLY EXAGGERATEDLY RAN LIKE ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE away from punches.
Well yes, a boxer SHOULD run the hell away from punches, but the way THEY ran their little tails off at the slightest feint or punch, it always seemed to me that they knew they couldn't take too good a shot.
Now ODLH can REALLY take a good shot. So could Larry Holmes, and so could Mike Tyson, Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. I would say they were the OPPOSITE of the Glass Jaw crew above.

this just goes to show that you know jackshit about boxing, glass jaw crew to me would be, Amir Khan, Tommy Hearns, Wlad Klitschko, etc.
Jones' losses by KO were more from dropping to light heavy, he really hasn't been hurt after the 3rd fight with Tarver, a fight he could have won, Vargas didn't really have a glass jaw, he took a vicious beating by Trinidad and after 5 knockdowns was finally stopped in the 12th after giving Tito fits, Lewis i always ragged him on having a glass chin, but although it was far from being Iron it was half decent WHEN he came in fully focused, Mayweather has taken flush shots and although has been rocked never has gone down, and recouperates quickly, next we'll hear that Whitaker, Hopkins, and Wright were so defensive cause they can't take a punch
best chins in boxing IMO
Vitali Klitschko
Erik Morales
George Chuvalo
and others

amir khan think he will get koed again soon but a dont think theres anything worng with mayweathers chin

Maybe JCC Jnr
Ray Mercer's resistance has gone.
Chris Arreola

 You know nothing about boxing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4SQmxIP5Bk
Lewis was KO'd by shots he didn't see coming from BIG fighters... Heavyweights... if 240 pounds hits you on the chin and you don't see it coming then you're going down.
Roy Jones... find me one instance where Jones was heart by anything other than a massive punch right on his chin...
It's a common misconception that Jones was never hit until Tarver managed to transfer 100% of himself into Roy's Chin. He was elusive but he could be hit.
The only other knockdowns he's had are after taking a sustained beating for what?... 9 rounds from Johnson and a flash knock down from another lighty heavy that he bounced back up from unaffected.
All Light Heavyweights (they don't fuck about... these boys can punch).. Ruiz hit Jones flush a few times, he's not a punch but he's a legit heavy weight and Jones started off as a LIGHT MIDDLE WEIGHT.
there are obviously fighters with better chins out there but to say that somebody who started his career as a 154lb fighter who went on to win titles in every weight class upwards from there a GLASS JAW shows that you don't know shit.

Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
I dont think any of the three had glass jaws really. It Blows me away when people point to Lewis having a china chin off of his two KO losses, basically boiling his career down to just two shots....both that were avenged with exclamation marks.I think those defeats had much more to do with a soggy state of mind and lack of preparedness.
In no way was he a runner but a calculating boxer who knew how to use his size, when the shite hit the fan,he could explode on the inside or outside. He's soaked up and faced some very respectable punchers from the better known Razor Ruddock,Holyfield,Ray Mercer,Mike Tyson,Frank Bruno,Tommy Morrison,David Tua,Briggs,Klitschko,Rahman save for ONE.....to the not so huge players but good hitters in Butler,Phil Jackson,Michael Grant,Tucker. He may have been moved and effected in spots but He deserves a little prospective. He wasn't exactly being iced by jabs, nor facing lightweights.

Vargas had a glass jaw?!? WTF?
Yeah, I'd agree with the other posters that you don't know the first thing about glass jaws.

Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
Also Ali liked to avoid shots and fight off the backfoot in his earlier days and history has shown us that he had one of the best chins/was one of the toughest fighters to ever grace the sport.
So basically I don't really know what you're shooting at here.
-
Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
There are VERY FEW fighters at or near the top level who have a glass jaw. Most fighters with glass jaws youve never even heard of because the dont usually get too far in the pros.
-
Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
Most of the fighters you listed Brock have pretty decent chins.
Frank Bruno didn't have the greatest chin, but of active fighters...I have my suspisions about:
Alexander Povetkin - Eddie Chambers hurt the guy FFS
Alexander Dimitrenko - he hasn't been touched by a big timeor even an average puncher yet
Nicolay Valuev - Taras Bidenko, Monte Barrett, and probably some other guys have hurt this big dude
NOTICE I DIDN'T LIST DAVID HAYE.....YET
Roy Jones Jr. - NOW, but during his prime he could take a shot if he had to.
Enzo Maccarinelli - He just can't take a shot 3 losses 3 KO's
I have doubts about Cris Arreola's chin but I am wondering if it's just due to poor training.
-
Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
I would'nt class Lewis as having a glass jaw he took some very big shots in his great career he just got caught twice by to very big shots when he underestimated his opponents.
-
Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
Glass chin makes me think
Amir Khan, Delvin Rodriguez and Wes Ferguson.
Maybe you remember Michael Grant as well.

I don't just "suspect" Khan has glass chin. Imo, he is guilty, convicted, and sentenced in that category.
-
Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
I thought the thread was who we suspect?
I mean saying Kahn and Enzo?? Suspectweknow for a fact they have GLASS chins.
I think possibly Paul Williams i couldnt see him taking AbrahamorPavlik bombs for 12 rounds.

Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
Best chin ever was jake lamotta never went down even sugar ray robinson couldnt put him down in there six fights, one of which was robinsons first loss.

La Motta was the naturally the bigger guy against SRR. Jake was 15 lbs heavier during their weigh-in according to HBO's SRR documentary.

Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
One thing that you said I agree with. That is PBF's chin. Many people think defensive fighters are the way they are because they cant take a punch. Personally, I am an extremely defensive fighter. But I can take bombs square on the chin without getting even dizzy. I have a great chin yet I love the "sweet science" too much to just sit and trade (something I call blasphemy ;D). Im sure PBF is similar. Take Ali as well for example.

Calm down son, you're not Sugar Ray Leonard yet ;)
I agree though that assuming a defensive fighter has a weak chin is silly. The fact that Mayweather got caught by the likes of De La Hoya, Corrales, Hatton & Judah at some point shows that he has a chin that can hold up. Any fighter with 30+ fights (a lot at a high level) who has never been down from a punch has to have a good chin.
-
Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
I think the whole "glass jaw" discussion among boxing fans is usually a complete waste of time, marred by uneducated opinions and knee-jerk reactions after a KO loss.
Lennox Lewis always comes up. The guy was knocked out twice, once by Rahman and once by McCall. These are two fighters with BIG KO power, who caught Lennox with bombs he didn't see coming. I think people look at the fact that he got KO'd by two vastly inferior fighters and assume he had a glass jaw. These guys were inferior, but they were huge bangers who landed hard, right on the button. How many other times have we seen Lennox hit the deck?
People who say Floyd has a glass jaw must have only seen 2 or 3 of his fights. The guy has been tagged hard before, and in 12 years of fighting pro has never been down from a punch. He avoids punches because he has the means to, if guys like Arturo Gatti and Mickey Ward had the skill Floyd has, do you think they would have taken all those punches to the head still?

What about George Chuvalo? Who else can say they fought George Foreman, Jerry Quarry, Joe Frazier TWICE, Muhammad Ali TWICE, and Floyd Patterson without ever being knocked down? Chuvalo had a head made of granite.

Agreed, the only fighter who I can think of who may have been comparable was Hagler, but Chuvalo really was in with some big hitters, although you have to think Foreman could have killed him had it not been stopped as I think Chuvalo would have refused to go down unless he wasn't planning to come back up
-
Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
Definatly, when I think of the greatest chins the three guys who come up in my mind are Hagler, Lamotta and Chuvalo. Hagler was in with a lot of big bombers too, wasn't Mugabi like 30-0 with 30 kos when they fought?
And yeah I think Foreman would have killed him if they let that go on, jesus what a beating he took.

Re: Fighters you suspect have a GLASS JAW 100%
Thanks for all the responses, even the insulting, boorish, and rude resposnses, which I guess some people feel they need to make for some unknown reason.
WHy the hostility? This is an open forum, where we exchange opinions, in a civil and decent manner. No need to say I don't know shit about boxing. I happen to know a bit about boxing, frankly.
I still believe Floyd can't take too good a shot, and the "proof" some of the hostile responses offered that "Floyd has never been knocked down" is no proof at all. I've seen the guy wobble and bobble from shots that he was BACKING AWAY FROM that weren't even any kind of KO punch to begin with. So I still SUSPECT (that was the original post topic, remember dudes?) that Floyd and RJJ don't have such great chins, even bordering on glass jaw status.
I respect your right to differ, and to explain why you differ.
But examine yourselves closely and come up with a good reason for your hostility and uncivil words to me.
Lyle, mate, thanks for your responses, you've always been objective and fair.
Oh, and I still believe Lennox's chin was less than iron, to put it mildly. And Vargas? ODLH rocked him with just a couple of stiff shots, and it was lights out. Do you think those same few shots would have knocked out Mayorga, or Duran, or Chavez?

You do know your argument against PBF is silly, right? You said you think Floyd can't take a punch. Him not being knocked down in almost 40 fights is no proof at all, huh??? What the hell else could he do then??? What, stick his chin out like Mayorga did against Trinidad and then pay dearly for it later? You say you seen Floyd bobble and wobble from nonKO punches? Against who? In which fights? Give us something. Don't start a thread and then back it up with really general jibberish and nonfacts. And if Floyd bobbled and wobbled over nonKO punches how did he withstand the hard punches if he has a glass chin? What are you going to say next that he went an amateur and pro career without ever taking hard shots? You couldn't possibly have fought before. There is NO WAY a glass jawed fighter can go a complete amateur career and pro career without getting knocked out. IMPOSSIBLE! I fought for 17 years and now coach and train and have seen thousands of live matches. EVERY fighter gets hit and hit many times in each fight and then fights many times. Every fighter has had his or her chin tested by the time you have heard of them. The glass jawed fighters are exposed with little to suspect. You're wrongfully labeling a glass jaw to elite fighters who have been knocked out. Hell, you're even suspecting fighters who have never been knocked out. I guess you can only say you suspect on Floyd because you would sound even more foolish if you said he did have a glass jaw and then backed it up with absolutely wishful hoping. Thats really what you are doing. You just hope Floyd has a glass jaw. Even your hope is wrong. I'm no PBF fan at all but I do keep it real as real boxing fan. Please don't bring a dislike for a fighter into making a false reality and then try to back it up with...well, basically nothing.

in the solid jaw category, one who hasn't been mentioned and who should be in the top 3 of the best jaws of all time is Kid Gavillan, fought against the best, fought 143 fights and never got ko'ed or tko'ed, a prodigy in the matter if you ask me. Librado Andrade has a seriously solid chin as well, I can't believe everything he did absorb from Kessler and Bute without flinching and we're talking serious bombs by boxers with tremendous power here.
As for the glass ones, Enzo Macca deserves an award for the fragility of his jaw, he has my price at least.
Among the suspect ones, I go too with the Giant Valuev, he almost got floored by Jean-Francois Bergeron who's a decent but not great heavyweight, I am also wondering about Mayweather Jr, he hasn't ate many bombs and his defensive skills make it hard to judge but I remember him receiving a stiff jab from Hatton and going back reeling for a second or two before controling the fight again so it makes me wonder a bit.

HEY DOOT!!! YEAH ITS BEEN A WHILE. THANKS BUDDY!!! :)
As for the foul-mouthed BLegit and his other foul-mouthed (and I suspect cantankerous to say the least!) friends, .....
YES Floyd was rocked and rolled by a short counter inside right hook from Zab Judah and DID GO DOWN AND IT WAS NOT A BALANCE SHOT. (I CAN HERE THE ALMIGHTY BLEGIT SAY IT NOW!!@! I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S ARSCH 17 YEARS FIGHTING....YOU DON'T KNOW AS MUCH AS YOU SHOULD, SIR!!! PLENTY OF FIGHTERS' CHINS WERE NEVER TESTED IN THEIR CAREERS, BECAUSE OF THEIR COBRA-LIKE REFLEXES. FLOYD IS ONE OF THEM. WAKE UP, SIR.)
DeMarcus Corley had him rockin and reelin, too.
Floyd Mayweather has a weak chin at best.

David Haye.
Suspect chin. Granted I'm not totally sold that it should be referred to as a glass jaw yet, but it is suspect.
Ronald Hearns.
Enzo and Amir are proven to put the g in glass jaw. They shouldn't qualify as suspect.
What qualifies as a glass jaw anyway? A punch can knock you down or a punch can knock you out? Many fighters get tagged and go down but then go on to win fights. Does that mean they have suspect chins?

I think Paul Williams has 1 of the best chins in boxing and I think he will be able to absorb the middleweight punches well. In their 1st fight Carlos Quintana found him quite often and could not budge him and Antonio Margarito loaded gloves or not nailed him squarely and could take him out and Winky tagged him a few times 2.

Just had to comment as a fan of Frank, said it here before on other posts, as above Frank just didn't know what to do when hit.Look a the stopages he had, he was sat on the ropes and was taking some full on hits and just didn't go over.So. not so much as glass jaw as a bit clueless !!
