One thing that you said I agree with. That is PBF's chin. Many people think defensive fighters are the way they are because they cant take a punch. Personally, I am an extremely defensive fighter. But I can take bombs square on the chin without getting even dizzy. I have a great chin yet I love the "sweet science" too much to just sit and trade (something I call blasphemy). Im sure PBF is similar. Take Ali as well for example.

Calm down son, you're not Sugar Ray Leonard yet
I agree though that assuming a defensive fighter has a weak chin is silly. The fact that Mayweather got caught by the likes of De La Hoya, Corrales, Hatton & Judah at some point shows that he has a chin that can hold up. Any fighter with 30+ fights (a lot at a high level) who has never been down from a punch has to have a good chin.

Agreed, the only fighter who I can think of who may have been comparable was Hagler, but Chuvalo really was in with some big hitters, although you have to think Foreman could have killed him had it not been stopped as I think Chuvalo would have refused to go down unless he wasn't planning to come back up
Definatly, when I think of the greatest chins the three guys who come up in my mind are Hagler, Lamotta and Chuvalo. Hagler was in with a lot of big bombers too, wasn't Mugabi like 30-0 with 30 kos when they fought?
And yeah I think Foreman would have killed him if they let that go on, jesus what a beating he took.
Thanks for all the responses, even the insulting, boorish, and rude resposnses, which I guess some people feel they need to make for some unknown reason.
WHy the hostility? This is an open forum, where we exchange opinions, in a civil and decent manner. No need to say I don't know shit about boxing. I happen to know a bit about boxing, frankly.
I still believe Floyd can't take too good a shot, and the "proof" some of the hostile responses offered that "Floyd has never been knocked down" is no proof at all. I've seen the guy wobble and bobble from shots that he was BACKING AWAY FROM that weren't even any kind of KO punch to begin with. So I still SUSPECT (that was the original post topic, remember dudes?) that Floyd and RJJ don't have such great chins, even bordering on glass jaw status.
I respect your right to differ, and to explain why you differ.
But examine yourselves closely and come up with a good reason for your hostility and uncivil words to me.
Lyle, mate, thanks for your responses, you've always been objective and fair.
Oh, and I still believe Lennox's chin was less than iron, to put it mildly. And Vargas? ODLH rocked him with just a couple of stiff shots, and it was lights out. Do you think those same few shots would have knocked out Mayorga, or Duran, or Chavez?
You do know your argument against PBF is silly, right? You said you think Floyd can't take a punch. Him not being knocked down in almost 40 fights is no proof at all, huhWhat the hell else could he do then
What, stick his chin out like Mayorga did against Trinidad and then pay dearly for it later? You say you seen Floyd bobble and wobble from nonKO punches? Against who? In which fights? Give us something. Don't start a thread and then back it up with really general jibberish and nonfacts. And if Floyd bobbled and wobbled over nonKO punches how did he withstand the hard punches if he has a glass chin? What are you going to say next that he went an amateur and pro career without ever taking hard shots? You couldn't possibly have fought before. There is NO WAY a glass jawed fighter can go a complete amateur career and pro career without getting knocked out. IMPOSSIBLE! I fought for 17 years and now coach and train and have seen thousands of live matches. EVERY fighter gets hit and hit many times in each fight and then fights many times. Every fighter has had his or her chin tested by the time you have heard of them. The glass jawed fighters are exposed with little to suspect. You're wrongfully labeling a glass jaw to elite fighters who have been knocked out. Hell, you're even suspecting fighters who have never been knocked out. I guess you can only say you suspect on Floyd because you would sound even more foolish if you said he did have a glass jaw and then backed it up with absolutely wishful hoping. Thats really what you are doing. You just hope Floyd has a glass jaw. Even your hope is wrong. I'm no PBF fan at all but I do keep it real as real boxing fan. Please don't bring a dislike for a fighter into making a false reality and then try to back it up with...well, basically nothing.

in the solid jaw category, one who hasn't been mentioned and who should be in the top 3 of the best jaws of all time is Kid Gavillan, fought against the best, fought 143 fights and never got ko'ed or tko'ed, a prodigy in the matter if you ask me. Librado Andrade has a seriously solid chin as well, I can't believe everything he did absorb from Kessler and Bute without flinching and we're talking serious bombs by boxers with tremendous power here.
As for the glass ones, Enzo Macca deserves an award for the fragility of his jaw, he has my price at least.
Among the suspect ones, I go too with the Giant Valuev, he almost got floored by Jean-Francois Bergeron who's a decent but not great heavyweight, I am also wondering about Mayweather Jr, he hasn't ate many bombs and his defensive skills make it hard to judge but I remember him receiving a stiff jab from Hatton and going back reeling for a second or two before controling the fight again so it makes me wonder a bit.

HEY DOOT!!! YEAH ITS BEEN A WHILE. THANKS BUDDY!!!
As for the foul-mouthed BLegit and his other foul-mouthed (and I suspect cantankerous to say the least!) friends, .....
YES Floyd was rocked and rolled by a short counter inside right hook from Zab Judah and DID GO DOWN AND IT WAS NOT A BALANCE SHOT. (I CAN HERE THE ALMIGHTY BLEGIT SAY IT NOW!!@! I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S ARSCH 17 YEARS FIGHTING....YOU DON'T KNOW AS MUCH AS YOU SHOULD, SIR!!! PLENTY OF FIGHTERS' CHINS WERE NEVER TESTED IN THEIR CAREERS, BECAUSE OF THEIR COBRA-LIKE REFLEXES. FLOYD IS ONE OF THEM. WAKE UP, SIR.)
DeMarcus Corley had him rockin and reelin, too.
Floyd Mayweather has a weak chin at best.
