Should Hatton retire ?
I think he should have a homecoming in Wembley stadium or somehting. Against a contender so he can go out with a win. Or at least have one more fight at home.
There's nothing else he can achieve. He has lost 2/3 career defining fights and I feel he should walk away after one more fight.
Thoughts ?

Re: Should Hatton retire ?
i want to see oscar dance one more time with ricky as his partner at a catchweight of 150lbs.
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
That was the type of knockout that ends careers. Hatton has nothing to prove now, so I wouldn't mind him just calling it a day.
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
a dont think he should retire hes lost 2 fights to 2 top pound for pound fighters think he still has a few gd fights left in him he should get rid of floyd sr and go bak to billy
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
Knockouts like that are extremely hard to come back from. Really he didnt just get knocked out, he got dominated! He got knocked down twice in the first round and then out cold in the second. Your confidence levels are shot. I think hatton might HAVE to retire, sure he can fight on but will he still be the same warrior?
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
There are no Wembley staduim fights after a brutal loss like that.
Yes he should retire.

Totally agree. He didn't just lose out there, he was blown away and fell as hard as anyone in recent memory. It's the type of thing you would expect of Amir Khan, you just wouldn't expect it of Ricky Hatton though.
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
He definitely should retire, the punch resistance has gone and that knock out will take some more out of him, if that's all Ricky has left its better he calls it a day while he still has some marbles.
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
Theres only 1 fight id like to see now and that him v Witter. But id just as much like him to retire.
Hes a top top man, still my favourite current boxer by a long long way but he got smashed up big time. That was 1 hell of a smack or 5 he took maybe times time.
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
He should really give retirement a long hard thought.
I think he should and sadly I don't think he'll get a letter from Canastota, NY.
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
I've gone after a homecoming as I'd love to see him KO Khan, but I don't know if he still has what it takes even for Khan!
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
There's just no coming back from that loss. He doesn't have the 140 excuse anymore. He used to live by "no-one can beat me at 140."
He said he was worried about Lazcano because of the loss to Floyd. So how we hill react after a loss that was 100 times worse?
Sad way to finish, but he's finished.
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
That loss right there will make him question himself and what he has left, at least I would think it would. I say hang em' up. That kind of shot he took, not to mention the very one sided, systematic beating he took in those 5 minutes can only make one feel gun shy. He doesn't need to get hit any more so call it quits man. The way that ended, plus his long career of taking alot of shots, could catch up to him and he does't need any more. That is the worst beating I saw a world champion take in so short a time in a title fight.
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
I think retirement is the best option for Hatton now.
He had a good career and has got plenty of money.
He should call it a day. ;)
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
it will be an emmbarrising loss for Ricky... there was no ref excuse and i was worried for him when he was on the deck...sad to see.
hes richer than he ever imagined he would be and should retire.
however as a fan i would love to see him take on Witter as a fairwell fight BUT if he lossed that one i think that would hurt him mentally more than any of his losses.
so hang em up Ricky and thanks for giving me as a fan some great memories 8)

haha after that performance even Junior Witter won't want him

Re: Should Hatton retire ?
Hatton is still young.. He just lost to a legend on the making.. 1 thing i want him to do first is to change that ahole trainer and look for a much more focus coach who will guide him on his training.. im not making excuses on ricky's lose but if you watch closely the 24/7 and read all the news regarding their preparation its all about mayweather this mayweather that and so on and so forth.. what the hell.. Hatton is a good fighter and im sure he can comeback.. but if he calls it a career i have no problem with it..
When money$$$ speaks everybody listen... maybe who knows he can fight DLH at wembley..
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
I think he should have a homecoming
I'd love to see him fight Amir Khan or Oscar De La Hoya
But it's up to him if he wants to call it a day
47 fights and 45 wins ain't bad :p

Re: Should Hatton retire ?
Hatton lost his marquee value and who is there for him to fight on the big stage? Witter? Maybe a farewell fight in the UK is a possibility at the end of the year. He needs at least 6 months off to think seriously about his future.
The KO was bad, very bad and fighters do not comeback from those sort of defeats easily.
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
He won't be tangling with the main men any more thats for sure - but he has made more money than he could ever have imagined.
His pride is a bign thing though for him - he won't want to go out with the last memory of him being unconscious like that.
What worries me is that if Khan wins next month he is a viable opponent for a stadium fight with Hatton and it would sell - but after that defeat Hatton may be beatable by Khan...:-\
I certainly don't want Khan notching a win over Ricky and putting that on his record
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
a farewell fight in uk would be grand. this could lure dlh out of retirement for one more fight before they both ride off into the sunset. oscar should be thinking to himself right now, "hey, i wasn't that shot after all". lol
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
I can't imagine how much mental damage that fight gave to ricky. I agree to all of you, 2 losses, 2 enormous breakdowns, he should retire... Sorry Ricky...:(

Just out of curiousity... exactly how would you title this boxing card? (I have some suggestions, but I don't think they'd be very popular here).

I would watch him fight a farewell fight; though I gotta say I don't think I would get that feeling of WARTIME he used to give me. He's been in my top 3-4 fave fighters for the last 5 years and that was tough to see last night. I definately don't want him coming Stateside for a fight as he won't get as warm a reception as he would at home. Either a UK figh or nothing; I would prefer nothing. I never wanted to see him fight Floyd or Manny; but give respect where it's due to a guy who took the challenge, as that was his job, and did what he could. He's a fighter, so it wouldn't surprise me if he does fight one more.
I almost feel as bad for the UK fans, who spent all that $$$, to go home maybe feeling deflated. Nice to know he's got alot of love back home though, very cool:cool:

Floyd Sr is a dick. I remember him saying something like to Ricky after the first round "I told from the day one of the training blah blah blah!". I can't believe hes already protecting his ass and the fight wasn't over yet.

Re: Should Hatton retire ?
if he were to fight khan come on is there anyone who would give khan a real chance a couldnt see khan lastin 4 rounds with hatton and am not really a hatton fan

Re: Should Hatton retire ?
I think he should of retired quite sometime ago i think he's been on the slide for quite awhile, he looked ok against Paul Malignaggi, but then again thats Paul Malignaggi who himself has looked a shot and rubbish fighter since the Miguel Cotto fight.
I think his last real good performances were against Ray Oliveira, Kostya Tszyu, he doesn't use head movement anymore or his jab. And he seems to have lost some of his boxing skills like punching in threes/fours.
And his punch resistance has looked shakey for quite awhile to say the least, im not taking away Manny Pacquiao's win i think he would of beaten Ricky Hatton at any stage in his career. But to me after the Kostya Tszyu fight, its all gone down hill for Ricky Hatton.
And i think Floyd Mayweather Jr wrecked his confidence. And Manny Pacquiao has just now made Ricky Hatton a totally shot fighter.

I AGREE AFTER YOU GET KOED LIKE THAT YOU ARE DONE I THINK HE NEVER GOT OVER THE FIRST ONE.

Ya think Miles? I can't see that he's proved a whole lot to begin with, just one meaningful victory against a questionable Tszyu. If legacy is important he's got plenty to prove.
If he's smart he'll take his gazillions and go live the quiet life somewhere and forget about being an atg, if he wants to keep his marbles that is.

Only "OK" against Malignaggi ? He looked a million dollars. His jab was there, he boxed with controlled aggression and took him to school. He beat him worse than what Cotto did.
If Mayweather really recked his confidence (Laughable) how come he decided to take the Pacquiao fight in the first place ?
Everything you state in that second paragraph he did in the Paulie fight. You need to re-watch that.
As well....who the fukk are you

I actually think he hasn't got anything left to prove. You look at his early days and he weren't expected to go this far.

Re: Should Hatton retire ?
There's nothing left for him to do. Sure, he could fight Bradley or Witter. He could have a homecoming fight. Why bother? He's been a P4P top 10 fighter, beloved in the UK and respected abroad. If he has lost a close one, I wouldn't be saying this, but after getting dominated in that fashion, it's time to hang em up. Anybody who knows anything about boxing understands that Ricky's style of fighting and weight fluctuations were going to shorten his career. I can't help but think that Ricky's lifestyle contributed to him not being about to handle Pac's shots. He looked great against Paulie, but Paulie can't punch. I would hate to see Hatton stick around and get abused. He has made tons of money and he can retire with no shame.
It broke my heart to watch that last night.
-
Re: Should Hatton retire ?
One last fight against Amir or Bradley in the UK for the fans, on free TV, and retire.

Well yes he looked ok against Paul Malingaggi it wasn't that good of a performance, Ricky Hatton has been alot better than that. Paul Malignaggi wasn't much of an opponent.
So you can't really tell how good Ricky Hatton was, because as soon as Paul Malignaggi felt the power in the 2nd round. He went into a defensive mode just hugging and putting his head below Ricky Hatton's waist line trying to survive.
And yes Floyd Mayweather Jr did wreck his confidence, just because he fought Manny Pacquiao doesn't mean his confidence wasn't shattered. It was a big chance for him he took it which is all well and good. But from when the first bell rung and he got caught with that right hook of Manny Pacquiao's.
You could see he was revisting the Floyd Mayweather Jr fight all over again. Ricky Hatton in my mind hasn't looked that great since his two wins over Kostya Tszyu, Ray Olveira.

Re: Should Hatton retire ?
When you get torched THAT bad by anyone, best fighter in the world or not, you need to hang em up. Fight was so one sided it made Hopkins-Trinidad look competitive.

I expect you to support your guy, so it's cool. Sure he's done better with the belts than you might expect, but the alphabet titles don't impress me much, especially the welterweight one. Sure, he was the top ranked JWW in a weak division, I'm more interested in who he actually fough and beat, and I've already made my point there.

Re: Should Hatton retire ?
All I can say is WOW, what a KO.
I think people are very quick to jump to the conclusion that just because a fighter loses by KO that they should retire immediately. This stuff was brought up when Wladimir Klitschko lost to Sanders and Brewster but he's done his best boxing since those losses. Ricky Hatton's style isn't built for the long haul but I don't think he should go out on his back like that.
Sure Ricky's fans are annoying as fuck but as a fighter Ricky is a good blue collar fighter, he is kind of this era's Carmen Basilio. I think Ricky should either have Lee Beard as his trainer or Roach or McGirt for 2-3 fights.
Ricky has plenty of options at 140: Junior Witter, Ricardo Torres, Kendall Holt, Demetrius Hopkins, Timothy Bradley, Lamont Peterson, and even Amir Kahn.
